Expensive for what it was
Friendly staff upon arrival, massive rooms for the price, very comfy beds and smart tv to watch netflix/youtube/catch-up tv. Breakfast had a massive variety as all crown plaza hotels, plenty of choices for my 2 kids who like opposite breakfasts.
Had issues with heating stuck on higher than normal, was hotel wide, mentioned before arrival and upon checking in. Did effect sleep being too hot in the room. Refurbishment going on so some of the walk ways towards breakfast room was tight passing people. Did not affect service or quality of food though.
The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice for the type of meal one may prefer.
On the first morning, my shower was a cold one!! Not a happy experience, but quickly repaired and set to the correct temperature by a very helpful maintenance person.
Location
Dated and no air con in our family room.
El personal és molt amable
Rooms were clean bed comfy
Staff bar just kids stood talking and giggling on there phones ordered food at 9.15pm 9.50pm asked where it was forgotten about order received 10.10pm chips were nice belly pork over cooked. Limited larger and ran out of cider breakfast poor and cold normally stay at the Hilton but thought I give this one ago but lesson learnt wont stay again
Toilet making gurgling noises and smell was horrible
Room smells of poo
Building was lovely - it must have been gorgeous in the 1920s/30s. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good - plenty of variety. Parking outside the hotel was super convenient. Buses directly outside took you to the city centre too
Whoever accepted our booking clearly didn't read the bit that said we wanted a travel cot for our baby because they gave us a room where a travel cot wouldn't fit. We moved room. But room no.2 was really dirty, urine visible on the toilet seat, dust all over the desk, and there was a horrible high pitched whining noise from the broken Aircon that was impossible to ignore. So onto room no3. Which was fine. Clean, no weird noises. But the tap either shot out boiling water or freezing cold. Nothing in between. And a broken light fitting and a wonky toilet seat
Beds nice and comfortable, breakfast decent
The heating didn’t work, room was so hot , building work in progress , bar takes cash but didn’t have any change to give you on both stays. Told breakfast was 6:30am paid for it the night before as slightly cheaper , went at 6:30 to be told it’s 7:30am on weekend , and Wdnt refund us our money, so ended up being late as had to wait back the extra hour
Location
Very very hot, heating was on even though it was 25 degrees so we couldn’t sleep it was too hot, left a day early due to that and breakfast was now where near as good as last time shame
We have stayed at this hotel before, it's location is brilliant and easy access for shopping and eating out, with access to the city buses directly outside the hotel between the hours of 4.00am - 1.00am. While car parking was totally free of charge throughout our stay. The reception staff are really friendly and helpful at all times. The room was very a very comfortable bed. We had adequate wardrobe space and plenty drawers to keep our belongings tidy. With a fridge, kettle, hair dryer, iron, and fans in the room.
A slight disruption was noticed to work being done as designs to the layout was ongoing, but notice to this was given previously beforehand. But it was noticeable in the restaurant for breakfast time. Everything was still available to eat, but it needs attention towards the actual running of the kitchen and restaurant to bring it all together as one. without guests going to the kitchen doors to ask for cups, cutlery or tables to be cleared before sitting down.
Rooms were clean and breakfast was excellent
Air conditioning was not working although we were informed in advance, after booking. Hotel was going through renovations but this didn't impact the stay
I have always loved the Hotel — this was my 5th stay. However, a night of Champions League football ruined by having no Wifi / Internet, the ground level of reception closed off and a make-shift bar with no football coverage which has completely changed my outlook of the hotel. Something should have been said when booking and guests felt make-shift. I had to go to McDonalds to get wifi so I could catch some of the Liverpool v Atleti match. On top of that is when I check out and left the key on the reception desk, no farewell from the e 3 staff were there, no smiles; just zero hunanity, and that is not an exaggeration. There were works taking place earmy AM too which was very irritating to compound my misery. I am coming with my 10yo son next for a Champions League match in November. We won’t be setting foot near this hotel, rest assured. The decent thing to do would be an apology and a full refund of my night’s stay.
Staff were lovely, situation was ideal for what we wanted
Heating and air conditioning weren’t working but we were told in advance. Shortage of many things at breakfast - no butter, no sausages, no china cups for coffee, felt very short staffed. It all just felt a bit tired.
Was kept very clean, tidy and very sophisticated (in a very good way)
Nothing bad to say at all
The rooms were big and spacious. Bed comfortable. Has so much potential to be great.
Lacks welcome feel. Staff not friendly. Smells stale. Needs freshening up. Food Trays left outside room all day !! A bit depressing. Bar outdated. Staff need to smile !!! Flowers and a diffuser would help. Short staffed. Hot water for tea at breakfast was brown.
Arrived at midnight after traffic delays to find there was no sofa bed in the room for my teenage son as booked. After some messing about, the staff (of which there were only two on the front desk), found us another room but we had to arrange the sofa into a bed by ourselves. By this time it was 1230 am and after a very long and frustrating journey we didn’t appreciate this. Breakfast was not up to the usual standard here.
Nothing
Renovations, shortage of staff, poor breakfast experience
Location
No air conditioning. Long wait to check-in.No 1 on bar to serve.
Near the outlet and airport for early flight
Breakfast was not good at all.
Really enjoyed the ‘period’ look of the decor
2 double bed in the room no having to share
Nothing
La limpieza la ubicación y el personal
Nada
Friendly staff, clean room and bathroom. Location veery good if are travelling with car there is free car park facilities. Even if you don't have a car please of bus right in front of the hotel that takes you straight to city centre. Also retail park is only a short distance from the hotel.
Need to ge a stronger WI-FI as I lost connection few times during the evening while i was trying to work. Wen over to the reception to inform them about lost INTERNET connection and all she said to me it must be because lots of people are on it. The otje inconvenience was flooring works tha was going on in the lobby.
Ease of parking and close to airport
No air con, empty mini bar builders in and out, noisy neighbours
Location and free parking
Room facilities and cleanliness Staff were unhelpful Room was noisy
Rooms dirty shower hanging off the wall with water running on bare wires.renavations and noise no aircon and no heating the food was terrible.
Clean close to airport breakfast was lovely
We did arrive about 21.30 but long wait for someone on reception to check us in
convenience and the shopping centre across the road
Breakfast was awful, went for breakfast and all the buffet platters were empty and were filled randomly over 20mins second morning, burst pipe, no contingency, just a sorry. Asked about a room later as i was checking out and they said come back when getting bags. Got back later and asked, they were confused and said the hotel is full. Eventually i got to use the gym but it seemed reluctantly. Got the impression, yeah the water was out but we don't care. The water issue seems to be brushed off as an act of god and not their problem to accommodate guests who checked out that morning. The breakfast that morning was even worse because of the water issue. The hotel appeared extremely short staffed. i emailed the hotel to complain and got a computer generated reply of how they take on board what i said and will improve. Not my problem, I did not get the breakfast i paid for and I certainly did not want to be going to Liverpool for planned activities without a shower or brushed teeth. They just brushed me off. both days, glasses and trays of dirty plates were left outside rooms by housekeeping but remained there that evening. Genuinely feel robbed, the breakfast buffet was the worst i ever had and then the water issue topped it off. no way of isolating which i would have expected, but didnt seem to care i had 2 kids who couldnt shower or brush our teeth.
Lights was not working, reported to the reception, receptionist came and check. Told me he gonna check and let me know if any other rooms will be available to swap, but didn't contact me back. Was not happy with this time
Service and room not upto the level I have experienced in my previous stay at there
Location to airport and the buildings history
Renovating in progress reduced menu and only 2 lights out of 5 working in the room
Room very spacious and clean Bed very comfortable
Tv didn't work No air con
Has characters the room was nice and bed was comfortable, staff worked extremely hard to deliver good standards
There was No management on the property and staff were undermanned in the restaurant and.bar the evening meal ordered was terrible. The breakfast was also a mess no food cutlery or staff to clear tables or cook the food, a real shame for the 2 waiting staff trying to deal with all the clients
Bed was comfortable, pillows were good. Tv size in the room was good. No air-conditioning was working nor was there fans in the room, which I was informed there was.
The hotel had some sort of major leak(not that day). All the carpets and downstairs were soaked and absolutely stank. Different menu in the restaurant to what they have posted online and on the walls of the building. The smell was unbearable from the wet carpets. I actually slipped making my way to the elevator after walking on the carpets and extra mats that were also wet and given that I'm 7 months pregnant i wasnt rushing or walking too quickly and gave me a fright when slipped. Had to leave the restaurant as I couldn't take the smell from the wet carpet which when i sat at the table given to me by staff the carpet actually squelched under my feet under the table , thats how wet it still was, and had to eat in the bar. Bar was understocked ( not even a Pepsi or a fizzy orange available). I ordered the pizza , it was undercooked, and the pineapple was rancid on it, which I had to take off. I sat for over 30 minutes waiting at the bar to order a coffee the next day at lunch time but no staff seemed to be on to take my order. I found this unprofessional from such a big hotel chain. Hot Breakfast was inedible, stone cold and looks like it had been sitting for hours, cold selection again was poor and of bad quality. The bread was stale and only could be toasted to be edible. I wouldn't stay again , i would also hesitate to stay at any of their other hotels if that is how the treat this one.
Food if it came out very disgusting service everything cold and no where enuff food for the amount of people
Food
The price was decent.
Room was super super hot, made getting to sleep so hard. Damp smell from reception up to the room, seemingly some wet carpet.
Nice location but very outdated and smelly,
Smelly and outdated
Close to airport and shops
Room smells bad & alarms sounded after a pipe burst in the foyet which meant we had now running water to wash or shower
Comfy bed & near airport
Rude staff other then two younger staff at the reception, room smelled like someone had been smoking cigarettes in it, outdated rooms and damp smell around building
Lovely staff dealing with a difficult situation with the flooding and issues with AC
Breakfast was haphazard but due to the flood so outwith the staffs hands
Close to airport
Understanding the accent
Great stay, we stayed for creamfields, was only a 20 minute drive to get to the festival so was perfect location for us, there’s a retail park across the road which is handy. The rooms were spacious, clean and tidy. Couldn’t fault the hotel.
It was very dated and it wasn’t clean, a week before they messaged to say no air conditioning, they didn’t have anything ready for breakfast and we had to ask them for different things, bar had no beer at Saturday night and the last night their boiler burst and they didn’t let us know, no shower no toilet with 2 kids it was the worst experience I had
Breakfast was disgusting no food being brought out! I asked for orange they run out at 8.30am No bacon No eggs No beans No toast Tea and coffee was awful
The room and bed was lovely But no working air con!
The room was very quiet and in a good location, handy to the airport. Early communication about the air-conditioning not working was good, and the fan in the room was appreciated.
We did not get the premium room we booked & paid for. The standard room was much smaller, and did not have a mini bar or coffee machine available. There were dirty glasses in the hallway outside our room when we arrived that were still there when we left, and the bathroom was not as clean as I expect (mouldy sealant etc). Service at the restaurant was very slow, and we had to go hunting for a staff member when we were ready to leave.
Lots of issues. Received a message from the hotel around a week before our arrival stating that the aircon was broken. We checked the weather and it was due to be mild so decided to go anyway. Upon checking reviews some our stay it seems that this has been the case for quite a while and fits into a theme for our stay…… Electrical sockets in our room did not work. Someone came to look at them and said they would inform Maitenance- they never turned up to fix. My wife wanted a bath but the plug did not work. Again, someone came to look at it and said they would return with a new one but did not come back. The breakfast buffet was terrible. Lots of food not available, not restocked. Not enough staff and their demeanour was not very professional. Long queues for basics. Food that was clearly not stored properly from one day to the next - my children complained that the coco pops were chewy for example and the fruit in the fresh fruit section was tinned and was off. Paper thin walls to the room next door where the TV could clearly be heard. On our last evening we were woken by an alarm at around 3:30 and the hot water had flooded the lobby and we had no hot water the following morning. We could go to the David Lloyd next door for a shower but when we explained all of our issues to the person on the front desk at check out he was not bothered. We requested compensation but were told that this would not be possible as the manager was not there (even though the lobby was flooded- perhaps he should have been there to lead the efforts in dealing with this??). The flooded lobby and the room sockets not working/no aircon/plug in bath broken all point to a poor maintenance record over a long period of time?) Overall, a very poor experience and the customer relations were appalling.
We upgraded to a premium suite which probably wasn’t worth it. However, rooms were clean and hotel was clean
The food wasn’t very good at all. The restaurant menu was a set menu with little choice and you couldn’t pick stuff from the all day menu in the restaurant. We need to ordering from the bar menu and it was expensive and cheap, nasty food. The breakfast was a little better but very expensive
Location great for airport and a small retail park 5 minute walk with many chain eateries
Breakfast cool. Insufficient t staff. I asked for a glass of water an d got 1 pint glass of water. Evening meal was inedible, choices very poor.
Eve ning meal, we were the only people in the restaurant. Earlier, watching through window, we couldnt understand why pizza deliveries were arriving !!
The refund arrived in my bank in a reasonable time frame. This is all. The hotel is a disgrace, and to be treating such a beautiful building as they are is bordering on criminal!
The 'accessible' rooms are, frankly, not accessible! On arrival the receptionist took one look at me in my wheelchair and said that the accessible rooms don't have accessible shower facilities! I ended up accepting the room, as I was in a fix. I then struggled to traverse the corridors due to incredibly heavy wooden doors, fraying, spongy carpet and the corridors were littered with empty glasses and bottles. It was like the morning after a party! Upon entering the room (which I had to stand up from my chair for, and fell through the door due to the immense weight of the door) it was excessively hot. Apparently broken Air Conditioning actually means 'actively pumping heat into the rooms'. My dog was panting instantly. I made the return journey to reception to request a refund. A full and comprehensive complaint has been lodged.
Location
Ac wasn’t working
Near lots of shops and restaurants
States has a shuttle bus to the airport but does not and has to pay £12 to airport
Dog friendly
Stuff, miss promised room we will be having, the bath was dirty and the breakfast was poor.
Location
Aircon issue but we are aware and has been communicated to us. We didn’t mind not having aircon.
Clean
Some staff could do with extra training on customer service
It was in the perfect location for my stay
No air con especially when Liverpool was in the middle of a heatwave. I had to ask for my breakfast table to be cleaned again because it was done properly the first time.
The staff were very helpful & friendly. Especially the restaurant staff, who had a lot of problems the night we dined there but dealt with them amazingly!
The breakfast wasn't great, especially on the Sunday morning. Everything ran out & coffee machine not working.
Arrivati alle 2am. Staff forzatamente cordiale, ma vista l'ora ci sta. stanza tranquilla e ben insonorizzata. Ceck in e check out veloci.
Colazione con poca scelta e non delle migliori.
Very clean
Nothing
The Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport is well-located for airport access and sits close to a retail park featuring several fast-food chain restaurants. The building itself is a former airport terminal; it is a listed property packed with history and unique character. There is plenty of parking outside, which was easily sorted during our smooth check-in process. The staff were very helpful, but it was clear they were understaffed and stretched thin—especially around breakfast time. This issue was compounded by a broken hot beverage machine, forcing staff to make all hot drinks manually. While the breakfast selection was acceptable, some of the food was cold because the restaurant wasn't very busy initially. Conversely, on Sunday morning, tables lacked forks because the room suddenly became packed with coach travellers who had stayed overnight. Our room was well-proportioned and exceptionally well-cleaned and tidied throughout our four-day stay. However, the bathroom is screaming for new fittings; the tub is worn out and the toilet is heavily stained. Furthermore, while we were told the air conditioning was broken, we weren't prepared for the room to feel like a sauna. The heat was unbearable. A fan was provided, and the windows open slightly, but this made no meaningful difference to the Sahara-like temperatures we experienced inside the room. It was normal UK temperature for this time of year, but it actually felt cooler outside the hotel than inside our room.We also noticed a damp, musty smell downstairs in the main hotel areas. Whilst I accept that listed buildings are not straightforward in terms of maintenance, I also know of too many that have been successfully modernised to modern standards. It makes me wonder whether these issues are IHG systemic failures or just mere neglect within the hierarchy. Housekeeping standards were excellent, but hotel maintenance fell short elsewhere.
Location and dog friendly ,stayed many times before and always been great for us however just seemed to have slipped in quality on this visit.reception and bar areas good , staff generally friendly
No food at breakfast coffee milk jams hot food bread, even an hour before close, incorrect labels for allergies , Paid for accommodation then informed no air con in bedroom. Rooms extremely hot even with a fan
The shower was decently powerful. The decor was fun.
Breakfast was an absolute shambles - highly disorganised and over half of the items not available. The shower temperature kept dipping. The air con was broken - they let us know in advance but 9 days before our stay so I feel they had reasonable opportunity to fix it. The room was unbearably hot and airless. You broke out in a sweat just sitting in it.
Staff/ receptionist very friendly, professional and welcoming
The room was tired, stank of cigarette smoke which had come in through the window from the ground floor outside where people were using as a smoking area. It was already hot and the air conditioning wasn’t working. A small fan had been provided, but did nothing. We couldn’t open the window for fresh air because of the smoke.
Breakfast
Breakfast was a bit chaotic Staff friendly and helpful , bit it was a bit disorganised.
Room was lovely, but surfaces of furniture were sticky and cpuld have benefitted from a thorough cleaning.
Room and check in guy
The breakfast was terrible Nothing left Staff nice but stressed
Room was good and location for the airport.
Bar food was average.
The position for Liverpool airport.
No aircon as it had broke down, trying to find a member of staff was sometimes quite difficult.
Price
No air con the rooms were very hot The hotel is very dated The whole family had a very poor nights sleep
Convenient location
Access to the leisure facilities is limited, and the staff and members there appear to be unenthusiastic about hotel guests using the amenities.
Comfy bed. Large room.
Food was awful. Crispy duck salad full of water. Breakfast cold and dried out. Couldnt even drink tea as was one of those constantly boiled things! Terrible.Staff, other than reception were inattentive. You came here EVERYTHING through the room walls. This place has NO atmosphere. Drab and very 'Fawlty Towers'
Good location, friendly staff.
The air condition was broken. I got a message at 13:00 to say they were working on it. Unfortunately it was not fixed. I had to get up at 03:00 for an early flight. I couldn’t sleep it was so hot and neither could my partner or two kids. Extremely disappointed to say the least. If I knew this was the case, I would have booked somewhere else.
Ease to book. Ease to park. Ease to check in. Close to lots of eating places.
Beyond their control. The air con wasn’t working. But it didn’t affect our stay. A fan was given.
The rooms were clean and spacious
The air conditioning wasnt working and it was 31 degrees outside.
Location was fine
Being put in a room which had heating which could not be adjusted especially after just experiencing heatwave in southern England. Told about this on arrival & informed that email had been sent which it had but after I'd left for my holiday & didn't have good wifi coverage where I was staying. Email only said they were having trouble with air conditioning not that heating was stuck on. Also I fell in car parking area after returning from cinema complex across road due to insufficient lighting. Luckily I only have a badly bruised knee to show for that. I understand that complex is protected but this hotel badly needs renovated. Decor very dark in area our room was. I don't think these rooms should have been let in the circumstances.
It was a good location
The toilet was really hard to flush, aircon wasn’t working and the breakfast was absolutely chaotic we waited about 10 minutes to be seated then was told to goto a table there were no cutlery I had to go and get my own and there was just loads of tables filled with dirty pots
Nothing
No aircon Ride staff Breakfast expensive and not nice Rooms dated and unkept Corridors unclean
N/A
It was dated, dirty & mouldy. We were notified after booking non refundable room that the air con wasn’t working. Told we’d have fans. We had one large & exceptionally noisy unit in the room which didn’t cool the room down. Left early because the room was so grim
Location David Lloyd option
Incompetence No air conditioning! Really good evening staff very poor morning staff. Buckets catching leaks in the corridors No offer of help with my children and luggage Not told when breakfast was. Missed breakfast
Perfect
Never had customer service
Dice que tiene aire acondicionado y cuando llegue me dicen en la recepción que hace 1 año esta sin servicio, pero en la aplicación de Booking sale que tiene aire y pague por eso.
2nd stay at this hotel. Again very nice hotel. Love the decor
Nothing
Easy to find
No air con and ridiculously hot Badly organised and staffed Initially sent to a room with people already inside Sticky desk surfaces
Style
Air con or at least a fan
The air conditioning was not working. Only two towels for three people
Nothing. Awful.
No air conditioning, incompetence of staff.
Location, facilities and staff
Air Conditioning was not working
The location for us is excellent especially now the retail park is opposite and the bus service to the city is excellent
The location
Close to airport
We stayed overnight didnt get much time to view
Nothing. Expensive and not worth it
Air conditioning was broke. Room was like a sauna. The price. The bathrooms need updating. The windows didn't open on the room
Everything. It's our second successive year in this hotel, visiting Liverpool as it's where I grew up, to visit Anfield for a Liverpool game. We love the ride into the city on the 500 or the 86A and the proximity to amenities in Speke as well as the trip through Beatles territory. What a friendly hotel staff. What an accommodating hotel staff. What a beautiful hotel. What a friendly (as always) city Liverpool is.
Stuff, clearness, and the location
Unfortunately, the air conditioning was faulty, but that was the only problem.”
The hotel was really good our room had 2 large beds well happy . Would stay again also so close to airport which was so convenient for us
the style was great,
however some parts do need modernising, more plug socked in the room, and not the shared plug for the kettle and tv inside the cabinet, bathroom needs updating, and although made aware the AC needs fixing argently
Rooms and staff
The air con wasn't working and the food was over priced. The lighting in the room was poor
Location, food
Broken air conditioning
I like this hotel. Stopped a few times as it’s conveniently located for visiting family
My 17 year old son managed to lose his wallet whilst staying. We suspect it fell from his pocket when we were sat in the bar. Next day when we realised it was gone the staff were very helpful, however whoever found the wallet had already attempted to spend on my son’s debit card at Liverpool Lime Street station, 8 miles away. No reflection on the hotel or its staff, but an honest person would have handed the wallet to the staff!
Nothing as I didn't stay
I'm unhappy that booking.com is attempting to charge me for a booking that was cancelled by the hotel due to a breakdown of the heating and air conditioning at the facilities. Dillon at the Crowne plaza handled the cancellation and gave me assurances.

Areas to consider
Cleanliness
6/10Multiple reviews mention smells (must/damp, toilet smell), dirty items found on carpet and generally unclean hallways — cleanliness is below expected standard.
Service
9.3/10Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful at reception and front-of-house, though a few reports note rude behaviour in the bar; overall service is a strong point.
Location
9.8/10Consistently praised for proximity to Liverpool Airport, nearby shopping and transport links; location is a major positive.
Room Quality
8.3/10Rooms and beds are often described as lovely and comfortable, but there are recurring issues with heating, small/portable heaters and some rooms being dark or affected by refurbishment.
Amenities
6.9/10Amenities are impacted by ongoing refurbishment (bar area, blocked parts of hotel), lack of TVs in the bar and heating/AC problems — facilities are currently below par.
Value for Money
7.5/10Many guests cite a fair or reasonable price, but several note that charges do not reflect the disruption from refurbishment and that bar/drink prices are excessive.
Food and Beverage
7/10Mixed reports: some guests praised breakfast, while others found the buffet sparse, expensive and disappointing; bar stock/availability also noted as an issue.
Overall Experience
8.4/10Overall stays are mixed but lean positive due to location and helpful staff; however, refurbishment, heating issues and occasional cleanliness problems detract from the experience.
