Heritage
Beautiful location, stunning views, amazing location, living in a palace, and drinking a Martini, shaken, not stured.
Classic elegance.
Several enhancements are required, including upgrades to the approach road leading to the front gate, improvements to both the interior and exterior walls, and the refurbishment of certain furniture pieces.
Not just a hotel but three a real palace on Lake Pichola, steeped in centuries of history, highly recommended.
Magnifique
The amazing location, the fact that it was James Bond’s hotel in Octopussy, the food (great Indian and Western food).
Compared to other Palace hotels in India the value for money is not there especially regarding the room (below standard bathroom and amenities).
Location. Experiencing a piece of heritage. Food was great. Staff were well accomodating.
Nothing much. You need to climb stairs to get to the room since there is no elevator but that is expected in a heritage property.
The best service What a swimming pool and location
Nil
It’s a real palace with feeling of. a royal life , being part of Udaipur city palace giving free access to city palace
Excellent staff and dining
Property is run down. It requires refurbishing badly
Bathroom fittings are of 1990ies. Shower was not working, even bath tub was still obsolete. Hand towels were not there Infact it’s a rundown hotel. Dining room and reception is good still
Superb Vibe ! the hospitality is top notch. Very well maintained property. The view is to kill for and the sunsets was just WOW
Location n ambience
Bathroom fittings not properly maintained
Sehr gute Lage, direkt beim Palast!
Top notch in every field.
Nothing.
Breakfast was good and fresh. We loved the balcony view and terrace view. Staff was really caring and attentive. The palace pool area was looking really awesome in the night.
I was hoping room size to be bigger when opted for three people. I was hoping the furniture inside the room to be more usual than what you would expect in a palace hotel.
The hospitality , Location and property was amazing.
I understand that room is supposed to give feels of old times , but I feel it can have modern washrooms. There was no mirror in the room.
Perched above the Lake Pichola, Shiv Niwas Palace offers a truly timeless setting. From the marble pool to the kindness of the staff, every moment feels both elegant and deeply welcoming. A wonderful place to stay, and even more beautiful to return to 🌞
All is perfect !
WHAT A GEM! 1000% worth staying here. The hotel is part of the City Palace Udaipur and within the same complex where the royal family currently lives. One can truly feel the history and charm of a real palace, which makes the experience exceptionally unique. We were given a card to be able to exit and enter the complex at any time (considering the City Palace closes to visitors during certain hours). The location couldn’t be better. It is a 2 min walk to the main entrance to visit the city palace and 5min walk to the boat station for the lake boat tours. The hotel also offers rides with a golf cart in case you don’t want to walk, but it’s not truly necessary. The hotel is calm and serene, perfect for moments of rest between sightseeing. I LOVED the pool area, it is very beautiful! The pool is fully made of marble - truly impressive. The service was excellent everywhere. The staff by the pool, reception, and housekeeping were very attentive and kind. We also had dinner and lunch at the hotel during our stay, and the food was great. One of the few places where I felt safe to eat chicken; the Thai chicken curry was delicious. And the candle light dinner outdoors was very pleasant on our arrival day. Another point worth mentioning is that, unlike other heritage hotels, this one does not host weddings on the property. This was great as it ensured that we could relax quietly by the pool without noise or crowds. We booked the terrace suite with sit out (one of the more basic rooms), and we could see the lake if we looked to our right. If we looked straight it was a green area. Very quiet room since it wasn’t overlooking the city, nor the rest of the palace. Overall, an unforgettable stay that perfectly combines luxury, history, and tranquility - would absolutely come back.
Roof top restaurant
Staff specially Mr Gajender Who is manager and Reception incharge . He does not know the basics of hotel industry how to talk to guests.he is rude and arrogant
Beautiful palace with exceptional friendly staff who accommodated us to a lower room as my mother could not walk up the stairs to an upgade. Its worth booking this place if you want to feel an ambience of how the Maharajas lived. Bazaar was just 5 minutes away. Breakfast was amazing and can be prepared to your liking if requested. Definitely would had stayed longer than 4 days.
Only thing I didnt like was that they expected us to pay for the extra bed when other hotels in India did it free of charge Also Bathrooms need an upgrade.
The layout and how close it was to a lot of attractions. Also the food at the restaurant was amazing
Nothing really
It’s located on the calm palace grounds and the gardens are pretty and well maintained. We booked 3 nights but we didn’t end up staying at all as we really did not like it. We were fully refunded and really appreciated that!
Value for money was shocking! Super expensive and the rooms are dated and small. Maybe a 3 star standard. Furniture are old and not pretty compared to other 5 stars we stayed in India. The pool looks like it used to be a fountain. I wouldn’t really call this a pool. Also this area where the restaurant is also situated is completely closed in. No view, no sun. The spa is opposite the reception. I didn’t go inside but it didn’t look very inviting to me.
The staff is super friendly, helpful and attentive. The hotel is simply GORGEOUS, spacious, extremely clean and comfortable. The location and view are unbeatable. It really is a magical place perfect for families, couples, away from the noise and yet easy access to nearby shopping areas, boats to tour around the lake and great restaurants. It's a magical place!
The spa menu in the guest's book is completely off from what the spa actually offers. That's confusing for the staff and disappointing for the guest. I showed up to make my reservation after spending a good amount of time selecting the treatments I wanted. None of the were offered! I ended up getting a massage only. As disappointed as I was, the massage was excellent. Angelina was simply extraordinary. Thank you, Angelina!!! And Thak you to Lanu for helping clarify the whole situation. Great staff excellent massage!
Location was great, staff were attentive and always willing to help. A real life lived in palace
Inside Palace rooms could do with a refresh/upgrade
Amazing view
Space and lake views.
Large so slightly impersonal
Amazing views and stunning location
Location...It's in the palace compound. They arrange e cart ride to palace though close by.. Most amazing outdoor restaurant area with pool...royal!! Good was fantastic.. Photo worthy at every corner...you feel like a true royal here...
Everything was just too good ..
A lot of charm and historical building inside the Palace. Dinner around the swimming with candlelight’s was exceptional. Prices reasonable and staff service was top notch. You feel at home in a Palace. Would definitely come back - was a great choice.
Location and Restaurants
No Gym Bathrooms are outdated!!
We had a spectacular view from our room which had a private patio area. The common areas are very beautiful and quiet. Staying within the palace compound is a special experience.
Emplacement exceptionnel Parties communes dignes d un palais Spa
Staff service and the location.
Wifi connection was weak. Amenities in the room somehow felt incomplete.
Perfect place to stay in Udaipur. Quiet and full of old world charm. Next to the city palace. Wonderful time!
It was excellent - nothing to fault
The location was scenery The variety of food
Palacial- everything was wonderful from the physical place to the staff. Incredible.
All good
We had an amazing stay at Shiv Niwas Palace, loved the property.
STAFF AND LOCATION WAS GOOD
CLEANLINESS AND ROOM FACILITIES , NO AC CONTROL ONLY ON AND OFF , ELECTRICAL OUTLETS LOSE
Location is next to Royal palace and city palace.
Everything was great about the property. Truly old royalty
Hard to modernize the property but it needs work around temperature control, better linen
The staff were amazing.
It was slightly tired in an acceptable way.
It was in a great location. Architecture nice
Definitely not a five star hotel, more a two star hotel. Very old, needs complete refurbishment. Bathroom terrible, it flooded during every shower and it is in need of a very deep clean. The jacuzzi jets were very dirty. Service in dining room very slow. Some staff very polite but others not so friendly. Breakfast choice limited. There is a pigeon problem with lots of poop on most ledges. It maybe heritage property but it is need of some maintenance. Would not stay again as there are better hotels for the same price near by. They tried to charge for table water at breakfast.
The food was excelent, the location as weel
the view from private terrace with lake view room is very nice Old furniture giving antique vibe
Bed is not made of wood and doesn't give palace vibe Price 45k per day is a bit high
Everything
Nothing
position building
maintainance inadequate
Location of the hotel is great, very close to Lake Pichola and other key tourist spots. Staff very helpful. Break Fast is also great with excellent service.
Cleanliness could have been little better, especially since it was raining during our stay
If you have a sense of history, this is most definitely the hotel for you. A stunning building oozing history set in the grounds of the City Palace. Spectacular artefacts adorn this lavish hotel. We had a sumptuous room with a lake terrace...and spectacularly beautiful views. The food at the restaurant was excellent and the level of service at the hotel was quite exceptional. A novel bonus was that you could be taken to different parts of the palace complex by complimentary buggy if you so desired.
The Property as in whole is very beautiful and very perfectly located…which in Old City Limits…
We paid more than INR.20,000/- per night for stay and we were offered a very average room with LOTS & LOTS of not needed furniture in the room which made the room very cluttered and uncomfortable to stay… also we were given room no.38 which has absolutely no view & privacy at all….. and most importantly there is no exhaust fan in the bathroom which made the us to wait for every use…
The property is currently in shambles with ongoing construction and repairs, making the stay highly uncomfortable. The room charges were astronomical compared to the quality of services offered. Apart from its proximity to the City Palace, the hotel offers no real advantage. Rooms are poorly ventilated, almost suffocating, and while the staff were polite, they lacked any real authority or decision-making ability. We had booked the stay with breakfast included, but upon arrival were informed otherwise. Additionally, the rates on Booking.com as well as on the hotel’s own platforms kept fluctuating, which raises questions about transparency and pricing integrity. It gave the impression that customers were being misled, with inflated rates for facilities that do not justify the cost. We ended up cancelling the booking after just one day and moved to The Lalit Hotel at Fateh Sagar, where we paid nearly 30% less for a far superior experience with breakfast included..
My suggestion to both Booking.com and Shiv Niwas is to ensure transparent pricing and prevent overpricing that misleads customers. If such practices continue, it will erode customer trust and credibility in both the platform and the hotel.
The room was very large and is literally adjacent to where the king lives, the museum and the ferry pier to go to Jagmandir Island. I stayed here as a novelty being a James Bond fan. Obviously there is serious security around the area, so I always felt safe no matter what time of day/night it was.
The standard room literally has NO windows looking out to anything except the small terrace at the entrance. Even the terrace is surrounded at all sides with high walls. For the price, I would have thought even a small view to a garden would have been there. Better off staying in another newer hotel if you want to pay comparative prices with newer and better amenities.
view from terrace was gorgeous; hotel staff was very helpful
AC unit was very loud and strong. Restaurant food was generally very good but portions were too large. Need more small, healthy options for food.
The ambience and decor
Need to be maintained better
The Shiv Nivas palace hotel is the offical hotel of the King of Udaipur. From our experience, it is criminally underrated. Not only were the staff incredibly friendly and accomodating, but the hotel’s ambiance was fantastic. Few points to note: the hotel was used in filming James Bond’s Octapussy. Unlike the Taj Lake Palace, which frequently advertises this fact and charges 3x the nightly rate, Shiv Nivas mentioned it to us only once. We booked the mountain view room, which still afforded us a view of the lake from one side of our spacious courtyard area. We also had dinner at the palace on one of our nights and the food was authentic and exceptional and relatively more affordable when compared to the comparable 5 star hotels such as the Leela and Taj. The hotel offers panoramic views of Lake Pitchola and complementary buggies through the palace complex to get out and about with easy access to the main market, city palace museum and Jagdish temple.

Enjoy a royal lakeside ambience in the The Palace Complex, with City Palace access just steps away for a seamless cultural morning.
Unwind at the resort’s outdoor pool and wellness centre, a tranquil retreat after exploring Udaipur’s royal sights.
Savour Mughlai, local, and continental flavors at Paantya and Panera, complemented by light bites on the Pool Deck.
