Location and pool
I didn't like a alarm going off all night I didn't sleep and reported the problem, first member off staff heard it at 1 am and said I would have to wait for a manager the next day. I but the do not distract me sign on the door and the staff member was knocking at 2 am!. The next day the manager marta supranowicz came to the room after I complained again and said she couldn't hear anything when it was still going off and was rude towards me and treated me as if I was in the wrong when I had been unable to get a good night sleep and interrupted buy the staff at 2am.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Carlyon Bay Hotel & Spa. Everything was excellent from start to finish. The hotel is beautiful, the location and views are stunning, and the facilities were fantastic. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and professional, and they made us feel very well looked after throughout our stay. The room was comfortable and spotless, and we really enjoyed the spa and pool. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would definitely love to return. Highly recommended!
Nothing at all. Everything exceeded our expectations and we were extremely happy with our stay.
While we were not staying at the Carlyon Bay, we rented an Airbnb nearby and visited the hotel a number of times throughout our week-long holiday to St Austell - on all occasions, the Carlyon Bay was truly excellent. We came along for Sunday lunch on our first day, a cream tea later in the week and a meal at the Bay View restaurant on our final evening. All of the food was delicious, fresh and prepared to the highest standard - the chocolate and hazelnut opera cake during our Friday evening meal was a particular favourite! The thing that stood out the most during our visits was just how friendly and attentive the staff were, from the porter who helped us find a parking space to the waiters and waitresses who provided exceptionally polite service with a smile, the hotel feels like a cozy and friendly home away from home for guests. It was also lovely to overhear the staff’s conversations with longstanding guests who they’ve clearly gotten to know well over the years, which demonstrates the hotel’s culture and commitment to quality which entices people to return. The hotel is also exceptionally well maintained and balances traditional decor with an appropriately modern touch. I would love to stay at the Carlyon Bay next time I go to Cornwall, especially to use the spa which would be a real treat. Thank you to everyone who made our visits such a special part of our holiday.
We spent 3 night at Carlyon bay hotel and 3 round of golf in August. The hotel and staff are always so welcoming each time we visit, the food was the highlight of it all with a mix of choice on the menu each night and the service was always so personal and felt looked after.
Every single one of the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Outdoor pool was lovely and warm.
The bathroom in our 'standard' room was rather dated/tired.
This hotel has dreamy coastal views, and excellent customer service throughout the hotel. The rooms are clean, very well presented and comfortable. I am gluten free and the menu choices and staff were hugely accommodating.
Everything so clean, lovely decor. Helpful friendly caring staff. Absolutely fantastic stay. Room was beautiful. Food wonderful and the silent disco was fabulous, entertained so many age groups we absolutely loved it! Can I say the garden and flowers were exceptional during this heat we were amazed absolutely beautiful welcome to the hotel the grounds were amazing. The gardeners do an amazing job.
Nothing we loved our stay!
Facilities and food are okay, location is great so are the grounds, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Building needs proper air conditioning and pest control (cockroaches in rooms and dining area). Room smelled awfully of a waste pipe leak and daily ozone cleaning helped very little. Given champagne for the trouble but no room change. Air conditioning is inadequate for 25C+. We have been staying yearly, will find alternative accommodation for regatta next year.
Our stay at Carlyon Bay Hotel was utterly fantastic... genuinely the best hotel experience we’ve ever had! From the outstanding locally sourced food to the incredibly friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us, everything exceeded our expectations. The kids eating and drinking for free was an amazing bonus, and the quality of the food was exceptional. The beautifully maintained pools, fresh towels, private beach and fantastic children’s entertainment, including Birds of Prey and survival skills, were brilliant. Our family room with a separate bunk-bed room was perfect for our seven-night stay. Every detail was thoughtfully done. Truly magical ... we’ve already booked to return next year!
honest pricing ie £20.00 NOT £19.99. I liked the vegi options
Breakfast needs tweaking burnt toast. Tined mushrooms. hash browns from Iceland ?
Location, golf course, pool, staff. All lovely!
The quality of the food was exceptional, and the service throughout our stay was warm, professional and attentive. What really stood out, though, was the exceptional customer service from four members of the team who deserve special recognition. Timothy was incredibly kind and friendly, always approaching customers with a genuine warmth that made us feel very welcome. Alex was particularly keen and eager to help, especially around the pool, always attentive and ready to assist whenever needed. Jack impressed us with his incredible attention to detail. Whatever task he was undertaking, his approach was precise, thorough and of an exceptionally high standard. And Joe, who chauffeured us to the beach, provided truly first-rate customer care. He was friendly, helpful and professional, making the journey part of the experience. It’s these little things and the people who go the extra mile — that make a hotel stay genuinely special. A huge thank you to all four of them, and to the wider team at Carlyon Bay Hotel, for helping make our stay such a lovely one. We would happily return!
The facilities were excellent especially the heated outdoor pool which was the perfect temperature. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was very clean.
The bedroom ws a little on the small size and due to the extreme hot weather it could have done with an air conditioning unit.
Fantastic hotel, location and especially the quality of service from all members of staff, everyone was helpful, polite and friendly.
Carlyon Bay Hotel once again provided us with a wonderful short break. The quality of the food is exceptional. The staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly. A special place indeed.
Exceptional looking hotel set in beautiful surroundings and right on the beach.
Nothing. Perfect
No better location for exploring the Cornish coast. If you want breathtaking views, great food and friendly staff this is your spot. We very much enjoyed our stay at this hotel with its great beaches right on the doorstep. However, the rooms are disappointing. We sprang for a deluxe room to ensure we had enough space for our baby son. Unfortunately, despite extortionate prices the room was noisy and a little tired, if we stayed again we would not pay for such an expensive room and would insist on a location in a quieter area of the floor. That said it did have air conditioning which I don’t think is the case for all rooms in the hotel. Watch out when booking in the peak seasons as without aircon the sea facing rooms are incredibly hot. Would recommend sea facing room to make the most of this great spot. Good food and service. Pool area nice if a little tired. Family friendly (kids menus, good high chairs, toddler pool), without feeling overrun by children.
Lovely property, nice location close to the beach and lovely spa facilities.
Almost everything
Shower over the bath and west facing room needed air conditioning to cope with hot weather.
The views and swimming in the pool We had the Scampi for our evening meal and it was delicious.
Had the most amazing massage with Annabelle definitely the best ever, and I’ve had a few. Thank you Annabelle
My wife and I dined at the hotel for her birthday, I made them aware of this when making the booking, but was then asked on arrival if we were celebrating anything, so had to remind them again. We were shown to a table by the window which was nice. The staff were very attentive and were very efficient in their taking of drinks and food order. We were offered the amuse bouche of wild mushroom soup which was gorgeous and full of mushroom flavour. For starter my wife had the mackerel and salmon roulade for myself, both of which were tasty but very salty. After this, I went to the toilet, during which my wife was asked "do you want to wait for him for the main course?", to which my wife replied " of course I do". On my return the main course was brought straight out, a maximum of 10 minutes between starter and main. I had beef which was adequate but a mish-mash of ingredients and the beef had a strip of sinew in it. My wife had pork rack, which basically was an enormous pork chop. The meat was very dry, looked like it had been cooked and sat on the side for about half an hour, the fat was not cooked out properly and the fondant potato was burnt (why was it served like this). All in all, not very happy with our main courses especially for the price, felt like a holiday camp canteen and not somewhere special for an occasion. We will not be returning
Just love this hotel .. have been coming for many years now . Usually come out of season so this was a real treat using the outside pool and sitting on the terrace for afternoon tea
Everything!
Clean everywhere, inside and out.
Location
Lovely Hotel and staff so friendly.
Nothing not to like ! 👍
Excellent food and dining experience.
The fitness room is very small and becomes cramped when more than 2 persons use it.
Relaxing, friendly good location, food excellent & good facilities . Bed very comfortable. Great views of the bay & access to the south coast path.
highly recommended, something for everyone to enjoy, plenty of sport , plenty of space to relax, great location for historic towns to explore or stunning beaches, all a short walk away. fabulous food, very comfortable stay.
All the staff where fantastic no problem to help you and happy to I was hot at night went out to cold down night porters came out with ice water brilliant all can all off them
Family-friendly hotel in fantastic position with great sport facilities. Very friendly staff. The bed I slept in was very soft with "hole" in the middle. Fresh orange juice should be served at breakfast. At dinner, considering that a main costs up to 44 pounds, one would expect "complementary" mineral water. A couple of bottles of mineral water in the rooms would also go a long way, without breaking the camel's back..
Lovely stay with excellent staff nothing too much trouble The food was tasty and well presented and had a good range of choices.
This is a lovely hotel situated in a fantastic location next to the beach and a short cliff walk to Charlestown. The stay was all about rest and relaxation and the hotel was perfect for it. Enjoyed the outdoor pool and 9 hole golf course plus the cliff walks. The food in the hotel at dinner was excellent and we enjoyed lunch with crab sandwiches plus cream tea. As others have said the bedrooms get really warm and there was no aircon in ours. This was the only negative from our stay but won’t deter us from coming back in the future.
Location was perfect, staff were all lovely
Exceptional views, beautiful spa and the warmest outdoor pool I have ever swum in in the uk
Nothing
Excellent hotel, wonderful staff and facilities. A real pleasure to stay there and be spoilt.. The location is perfect and offers plenty of parking and easy access to the coastal footpath.
For anyone looking for a relaxing holiday experience near the sea in Cornwall, this hotel is a great choice. It is right next to a sandy beach where you could try watersports, and the hotel facility and services are amazing! The only thing worth noticing is that if you need to travel somewhere else, driving a car is more convenient, as the hotel is about 9 minutes drive away from St Austell. But there are bus links, and if you just want to hide away from busy schedule with beach experience, then it is perfect. Both swimming in the sea and in the hotel spa centre are good options.
Excellent value ...great stsy thoroughly enjoyed our stsy , Entertainments and facilities very good .
The property was a good size with lots of added extra activities to take part in.
The room was nothing special, a bog standard room which didn’t really reflect the price charged.
Terrible. Poky room, no aircon, at night it was like a heatbox. One small lift to serve guests and staff, which was listed for six people. Lucky to get three thin people in it. Never again - stay away and avoid
My wife and I enjoyed staying. The catering was excellent. We enjoyed walking around the extensive grounds. We enjoyed occasional putting, snooker and swimming.
Excellent dining, service and comfort
Great hotel, lovely sea facing room, great food, excellent golf course. Warm outdoor pool. Staff were very friendly, location is superb
Lovely staff outdoor pool was lovely food lovely aswell. Just a lovely place to relax
Everything in hotel was excellent I would recommend to everyone location is excellent staff brilliant polite
Nice restaurant, friendly staff
Room was like a sauna, sleep was impossible. Air conditioning is absolutely required. 27deg in the room with windows open and fan on full. Ridiculous
Breakfast was superb. Location excellent. Only negative was that there was no HVAC in the rooms.
Very comfortable hotel in a beautiful location. The facilities and staff were excellent.
Nothing.
Had a great few days and really enjoyed everything about the hotel. Bit disappointed in our room it was lovely but didn’t have a superior feel to it and the bathroom was tiny. Everything else was just first class food facilities pools fantastic staff great everything was brilliant and one highlight for me was the falcon display awesome.
A really nice 4 star hotel in a lovely setting. Nice pool, splendid restaurant, although breakfast was disappointing. The staff are all very nice particularly the porters that meet you with a smile and are always willing to assist. However this hotel fails at its fundamental goal - comfortable nights rest. We suffered, and I don't exaggerated, 3 nights in a room more akin to a sauna. With both windows fully open and the fan on full the room failed to get below 27 deg C. Even though the outside temperature was significantly lower. Reception staff stated that they were experiencing exceptionally high temperatures. A daytime highs of 26 deg C is by no means exceptional for Cornwall. Air conditioning should have been standard. I honestly cannot stress enough how uncomfortable each night was and how little sleep we got. Extremely disappointing. We had dinner in the main restaurant last night. When we asked for the bill there were charges of almost £100 for drinks and food that were not ours. The charges were removed but it did seem this was a regular issue, if you are staying check your account thoroughly.
See earlier breakfast comment poor layout like being in the middle of a motorway you need to rethink the layout
I chose this hotel for its location. We went for four days but as the weather was good and the outdoor pool was sublime we didn’t leave the premises. I fully recharged my batteries. Great location overlooking the sea. Loved that you could order food at drinks at poolside. Plenty of places by pool or garden to sit in sun or shade. Beds very comfy with pillow selection. Sea view was wonderful to wake up too. Breakfast very good and variety of food options. Make sure you get a staff member to take you to the beach in a golf buggy, great fun and a real wow moment as you hit top of golf course and see the magnificent coast line. One gripe triple cooked chips weren’t! We have found the Brend Collection of hotels to be good classed, good quality and good value and will definitely be back The pools really make this hotel special and the grounds were beautifully maintained with English flowers and an odd exotic plant. There was some entertainment that was varied and considered. Good bar areas to sit comfortably.
We had such a lovely stay at Carlyon Bay Hotel. The location is absolutely beautiful, with stunning sea views that made it feel so peaceful and relaxing. Our room was spotless and very comfortable, the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. We also really enjoyed the spa and pool facilities. It was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday, and we left feeling refreshed and already thinking about coming back.

The location of the hotel is fantastic. Wife had a decent massage.
We paid over £400/night, and what you get for that money simply isn't worth it. The room was small. The shower was like being dribbled on by a toddler. Our room was around 40C - okay, it was a heatwave, but more needs to be done to keep temperatures in a safe range. Breakfast was pretty disappointing - very old-school traditional English fry-up options, with some crusty/stale pastries and bread available; it needs bringing into the modern era with included fresher/lighter options like avocado, smoked salmon, etc. Waited over 30 minutes for a drink order at the pool. Were charged for drinks we didn't take upon check out (eventually removed from bill).
The best visit to Cornwall! We will visit the Carloyn Bay hotel next year. The room had a connecting room with bunk beds for our young boys. They loved the pools.
Just had a stay at the Carlyon Bay hotel Cornwall. What a fabulous two Night break. The hotel is very welcoming and has a relaxing atmosphere to it. The staff are very attentive and there are plenty of them. The tables are cleared and cleaned as soon as people leave. No mess anywhere. The deco is very nice and fresh flowers are a lovely touch. The food is exceptional so fresh and presented beautifully. Linen table cloths and lovely laid up tables give this hotel the class others lack. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. It wasn’t the largest of spaces but the view was outstanding. The greeting from the concierge was so friendly and very helpful. If you like to get away relax and get looked after this is the hotel for you
Spotlessly clean in a beautiful location
Nothing
The location is ideal for exploring the beautiful Cornish coastline, while also offering a tranquil retreat to return to at the end of the day. Every part of our stay exceeded our expectations, and we left feeling refreshed and already looking forward to coming back.
Golf course and general feel about the place is classy
Maybe a little expensive
A very enjoyable weekend. We were pleased to discover we were allocated a room with the balcony, lovely views. It’s shared so at times we did feel like we had to check who else was already out there but a definite bonus. As soon as we walked in the room we were hit with a “drain” type smell coming from the bathroom which was dealt with promptly by staff. As per all hotel stays in England the room was stifling at night so we put our mobile air con unit on. This had zero effect so again we contacted reception and got a replacement which worked better. Interestingly my sister had a modern wall fitted unit which worked perfectly, which was surprising as we knew the price difference in the two rooms and felt our more expensive room should really have a wall mounted unit too! We also felt that the shower (think caravan size) was very small when you consider the price of this room. Decor throughout was very smart and upkept to a high spec. We really enjoyed an afternoon around the heated outdoor pool. The food is truly exceptional. Not one element of any meal fell short. The canapés having a pre dinner drink was nice touch. All staff very very friendly, the price for a bottle of rose wine was a little over the top in our opinion. All in all an excellent hotel.
The setting and facilities were wonderful.
The loud noise that came from outside our bedroom window keeping us awake and preventing us from opening the window. It sounded like a generator.
Overall very good - staff and service excellent. Our main issue was that the adjoining room had someone who was quite loud early in the morning. This was raised with the hotel who dealt with the matter promptly and efficiently.
Everything you needed very good
Windows did not open enough in the rooms
A wonderful hotel with all the amenities that you would expect of a hotel of this calibre. Its location is amazing and is easy walking distance to Charlestown as well as a beach. The 9-hole pitch and putt course is fun and really well maintained with clubs and balls available to borrow. The pools are a delight and the outdoor pool was heated to 28/29 during out stay in June.
Location also Clean, well maintained. Lovely light rooms
Parking was a bit of a problem
The quality of the hotel and staff was excellent. The hotel is in a very picturesque location and perfect for golfing and outside relaxation.
Visited with my mum for 2 nights, stayed in a superior twin sea view room (120) - the view was beautiful. We'd seen other reviews referring to a small room size, but our room was a lovely size, we also had an air con unit in the room - and a fan. It is worth noting that although it is a noisy air con unit, it was highly worth it in the hot weather. We ate in the taste restaurant one night, Bay View restaurant for the other night. Both were smart/casual dress. We preferred the sea view, atmosphere and menu for the bay view - breakfast there was also very nice, lots of choice. Lunch on the terrace was wonderful. Outdoor pool warm, never too busy. Indoor pool was never full, my mum had two treatments and was pleased. The staff were all very helpful and polite. We loved the fresh flowers throughout the hotel and watching the rabbits on the lawn at breakfast and dinner. We look forward to returning!
Absolutely amazing xxx was lucky enough to be treated to a wonder dinner
רעש חזק מאיזור המטבח
Wonderful 3 days despite the weather. Lovely room with a sea view, fantastic staff, particularly the Concierge, and great facilities. Just one word of warning, from a Scotsman, I cringed when charged £4.25 for a small bottle of locally produced and sourced tonic water!
Great spa hotel, staff all amazing, food was excellent, facilities excellent, views are amazing, 10 minute walk across the cliffs to a beautiful beach, would recommend
Wonderful location, with the best view of the sea. It felt as if I were abroad. The facilities were first class and the outside heated swimming pool was fabulous. Food was also amazing.
The lift it was tiny!
Just lovely, quaint, the view was incredible, we were so relaxed and happy and couldn't recommend it more
It was lovely.
Parking access was good. Electric Car chargers available onsite if needed. Lots of space inside and outside the hotel, it felt very relaxed and airy. Used the Spa and Outside swimming pool which was a great feature of the Hotel. Coastal path walk available at the rear of the Hotel, so we went down to the beach and explored the area from there. Close to Charles Town, Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and Mevagissey, so lots to see and do in a few days, it was great.
I guess the Pool area could do with a bit of a revamp, but it was fully functional and was great in the hot weather when we were there, so no big complaints, just a comment.
The receptionist was superb. Friendly, professional and helpful.
One room had air con. One did not. Not sure why and we didn’t opt for it in one but not the other. Not too much of a concern, but next time I’ll ask specifically for an air conditioned room.
Excellent breakfast and dinner in the Taste Brasserie.
No proper Air-con but hey did try with supplying a fan and a very noisy air conditioning unit.
A large established English estate kept in very good order and spotless.
All rooms should have good quality air con. Most rooms at the hotel have none.
Location to be able to walk into Charlestown was ideal.
Extremely hot with a towel rail that you couldn’t turn off. Shower was basic. Spa needs updating as tiles loose and dated. Housekeeping staff need to knock and wait for an answer before coming into a room, or be informed of who is leaving on that day so not to come in to ask about refreshing bits when due to check out in 40 minutes.
Excellent all round
Nothing
The staff were very friendly, I was unexpectedly upgraded and I had air con in the room - really welcome in 30 degs!
Price of rooms
I love the location. The food is excellent, and all the staff friendly and helpful.
My room was very small - hard to move around and do the things I needed to do.
Beautiful grounds and location
Very small room with small bed
Great location, beautiful gardens and outside space. Comfy bed. Some staff were lovely.
Tired facilities, room was dated and although clean it was not worth the price I paid. I wasn’t allowed to have my kids join me in the morning for a swim which was a real shame.
I've been before and it's a beautiful hotel
Unfortunately I was there on a busy weekend. I had a sea view room but there were chairs on the lawn and people could see up into my room so I couldn't sit and take advantage of the view. There was a singer right below my window which I found to be quite loud. I was just hoping for a nice relaxed night away like last time but I struggled even to find a seat outside. I didn't end up staying the night and drove back home
Golf course and location
No dancing only a guy playing a piano which was very nice
Ligging aan zee

From the moment you arrive you cannot fail to be impressed by the quality of the place. The grounds and the overall building have been impeccably maintained. Our room was a good size, clean and comfortable. A couple of very nice touches were the bowl of fruit and some chocolates on our arrival. Breakfast was excellent with a great range of choices. On one morning my wife had an omelette and hasn't stopped talking about it since. We had dinner there twice. Once in the brasserie and once in the main restaurant. Both had very good vegetarian options and the food was very tasty. The main restaurant in particular was a great overall experience. As important as the quality of the facilities and the quality of the food was the quality of all the staff. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful. Management and the owners should be complimented on instilling such a positive culture among their staff.
Bath robes could be a bit more generously sized. The gym was ok but rather small; I accept there's probably not much that can be done about that. It might have been nice if the outside pool could open before 9am.
Location, Spa, pool, golf, spacious hotel. Excellent restaurant and excellent friendly and well trained staff Sea view from room
Bedroom was very small and bathroom tiny with shower over the bath. We didn’t expect that given how much we paid.
The property is amazing, stunning and cozy.
Spa and the view
The sausages at breakfast. Meals were expensive.
It was clean, warm, in a good location with great facilities
Bed was too hard
The rooms are small but beautiful. It’s a wonderfully decorated hotel and so calm and relaxing. The spa facilities are world class and really make this a stand out experience. Amazing breakfast selection.
Only slight downside was the cleaning and maintenance team start early, so you hear a lot of corridor walking and door banging from early hours.
Lovely stay in a warmly welcoming and peaceful hotel. Absolutely no complaints
We eat a meal on the 1st evening with yourselves, it was nice enough & your staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was brillant & couldn't fault that at all.
We asked for a 2nd drink & was told by the waitress the drinks server would come, never came, we left & went to the bar next door got served straight away. That was bad. 2nd morning what a lot of staff you had on I counted 7 milling around, they weren't really doing much but were available should they have been, bit excessive.
The final bill needed a bit of a check, but was quickly resolved
Lovely comfortable room with a nice decor. The bathroom was well appointed and clean. Food and beverage offerings were very good and you can't beat the location.
The wifi in the room on the third floor was "visible" but I could not connect to it reliably with any of the three devices. On the ground floor, all was good, however.
Lovely hotel with great facilities
