A lovely old property but really glad it had a lift as I have walking difficulties
Steps down to toilets & to some seats in bar
Very expensive to eat in hotel. More like a 3 star, needs modernization
Breakfast could be hotter.
The staff were so friendly and helpful especially during the fire alarm
The hairdryer was so heavy
Hotel was beautiful, in a great location. Our room was in a quiet part overlooking the golf course. Very varied breakfast selection and dinner was good. Staff were happy, friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
Dining room service was a bit disorganised at breakfast and dinner. At breakfast we were shown to table and told staff member would come and take our order, didn’t happen. Service was slow at dinner, cleared our dinner plates, didn’t come back. Had to ask another server for dessert menu.
Lovely facilities. Staff were great. Breakfast amazing choice of food
Room was a little dated
We loved exploring the grounds of the hotel including the leisure facilities. Everyone was friendly and welcoming.
Beautiful old building
Nothing
Excellent hotel with excellent grounds. The food was superb and the staff were attentive. We would definitely stay again.
Nothing
Beautiful grounds. Beautiful looking building. The Terrace bar was a nice space to have drinks in the evening. Good breakfast. Close to Norwich and the Norfolk Broads.
Rooms a little dated - net curtains had holes and curtains were falling off the curtain rail. No fridge in our room but other family members had a fridge in their rooms (not great given the cost of the rooms). Strange mechanical noise at night which kept me awake (think it was the lift at 3-4am!!). Smell of weed in the corridors and a lot of very drunk golfers even in the morning - not helped by having the Bunkers bar open 24/7. Breakfast very busy (I guess too be expected on a bank holiday weekend). The Terrace bar was nice but filled up with drunk golfers. Not really the quiet country hotel experience I had hoped for.
Clean rooms and spacious. Great location.
Loved the location and facilities on site
Feel as if there could be some more cushions and more umbrellas in the rear garden, was not much shade in the heat. When we arrived there was a flashing light bulb in the room, which was then resolved.
Room great, clean, comfy big beds. Breakfast fantastic. Very friendly staff. Bar food was really nice.
Food very expensive. The spa/pool/changing rooms definately needed some maintainence and updating
Beautiful property in lovely sure
The room was difficult to find initially but ok once found
Lovely location nice room excellent facilities and service, staff were helpful and friendly excellent breakfast
Room was at the back of the building tiny window not much natural light
Lovely hotel. Our room was spacious & clean. Food was excellent. We ate in the lounge bar on 2 occasions & had Lovely meals. Great choice for breakfast. The staff were helpful & polite. Our 3 day stay couldn't have been better.
No negatives.
Historical location
Outdated room
Great building and really beautiful surroundings
Some parts a bit aged and with cheap materials. Spa could be renovated.
Tha setting and food
Nothing
It’s such a lovely building
I think your standards have gone down considerably in recent years. You just don’t have the touches in rooms that too use to have snd the standard of food has dropped dramatically. It’s a. Shame as it’s the perfect setting for a wonderful hot
It was a busy hotel, very charming and beautiful on arrival. The building was impressive. The breakfast was good, as would be expected. We ate at the restaurant the day we arrived and it was a nice environment. The food was nice.
Staff were too inquisitive about our reasons for being there and - it seemed false - as if they have been trained to ask guests why they are visiting! Please don't ask. One man was giving his life story whilst the rest of the queue were waiting to order food at the bar! I also don't like the falseness of it - don't ask! There is nothing natural about it. The pool and fitness area are okay. The pool is nothing special - not very deep and more suited to children learning to swim - and in fact there were child swimming lessons taking place when we went there. I could not find a proper shower in the changing rooms after swimming and had to go back to my room to shower. Facilities were disappointing. The strange locking mechanism for the lockers - better instructions could be provided - maybe in the hotel rooms - for when people have their glasses and can study in advance. In fact just put more information in the rooms - such as how to access the Trackman/golf facilities... Someone took the towel of a guest whilst they were swimming, there was no way for them to get a replacement as no lifeguard/employee visited the swimming pool. The guest had to drip dry or walk back up to the centre entrance in their swimming attire. I really wanted to be impressed by the hotel, it is such a lovely building, but I was disappointed.
Excellent property with great facilities
Very grand and relaxing
Restaurant not great ambiance for dinner
Lovely looking hotel
Dirty toilet in room on arrival didn’t want to use it for the rest of the stay. Room had no electricity on arrival and had to get the ‘maintenance’ guy to flick a tripped breaker which took 1hour. Food was average at best unfortunately if you’re looking for luxury in Norwich it’s extremely hard to find and you won’t find it here.
The breakfast is good, the location is excellent. I am a frequent visitor but the clientele means there is constant banging and loundness all through the evening. in rooms surrounding my children, in 'family' rooms even groups of adults.
The Golfing clientele means there is regular banging and 'loundness' all through the evening. in rooms surrounding my children, in 'family' rooms even groups of adults. Rooms are dated now. It is not a cheap place to stay yet there is no such thing as a reward system for a frequent and loyal visitor'.
The outside looked very grand and the location was good for what we wanted.
The food was terrible, I had the mussels which came with fries and garlic bread, the garlic and cream cooking liquor was like dish water and the garlic bread was so hard it was inedible. My wife had fish and chips and said it was ok, the batter was greasy. My daughter had pizza and fries ( weird to have double carbs on a kids menu) but her pizza was ok. Breakfast had poor quality ingredients even the bread! The beds were hard and other than the entrance, bar and brasserie everything was very tired and tatty, which is a shame at the cost of more than £270 per night for a family room.
Lovely property, nice location
Not entirely clean and some of the staff were quite rude (restaurant)
Swimming pool was fantastic with the kids, room comfortable, breakfast experience was very nice and dinner at the bar was lovely too.
I would love to have had a mini fridge in the room.
Nothing unfortunately apart from the location
The room that I had upgraded to was suppose to be a four poster bed, this wasn’t the case four poster frame with a double bed inside the frame I was expecting a real four poster bed, also there was a bolt sticking out of the bed and if you were to catch your leg on this bed frame it would of made a mess, there was a horrendous smell in the room dirty coffee machine, dirty glasses and vodka bottles left out the room from previous guests that hadn’t been cleared up also draws that had handles hang off and bath with chunks missing out of it and screw missing off door handles this was suppose to be for my birthday, safe to say I left this location, within half an hour the picture didn’t look anything like what I was given wish I hadn’t of booked, left and went else where, also the windows I understand it will be a listed building but when you have safety locks on the windows again with screws missing which isn’t good massive safety hazard in my eyes.
Everything was so nice. Very relaxing with comfort. Our room was well maintained. Great breakfast.
Location and gym
as a single traveler I felt like I was pushed into the corner of the conservatory twice despite asking to dine in the main restaurant area where tables for two were empty. No fresh coffee, poor service and mould in the bathroom
Wonderful setting beautiful building
Windows broken handles missing , cracked sink in bathroom , grout missing in tiles above bath , food was warm not hot from bar menu
Stayed here a few times. Welcoming and very comfortable. Good Breakfast!
Great location, lots of parking (with electric charging spaces.) Beds were comfortable and we all slept well. Reception were incredibly friendly, welcoming and professional at all times. Housekeeping were polite and friendly.
Quite a long walk to our bedroom. We had to go down some stairs and back up again. There was a lift but it was slow. Not a problem for us but would be tricky for someone with mobility issues. Restaurant busy for breakfast. Friendly greeting but staff didn’t seem to be coping. Not sure if understaffed or needed better systems. Lots of tables needed clearing and coffee machines not working. Cups and plates needed refilling and people had to get cutlery out of the draw as tables not set.
Warm welcome, good choice of food, nice location
Nothing!
This place feels like english dream. We will definitely come back! Just small suggestion, add some vegetables in the breakfast menu please. Thank you
Great location, close to Norwich city centre by car and easy access to coast
Some noise from guests overnight, reported to reception
The hotel reception staff where very helpful , as were all the staff. The room was very clean, quite location and the bed was so comfortable. The swimming pool was amazing and the area so clean. The food was really good ,
no problem with Breakfast or dinner good food and service . bed was a little hard
for Disabled guests , not enough information on how to get from A to B example how to get to the pool how to get to the garden with wheelchair. reception gave very little help .
Convenient location, nice grounds, bar terrace Comfortable room Staff very helpful, friendly Good breakfast, lots of variety Pool, sauna, steam room facility Plenty of parking
A few minor issues that we wouldn't expect from 4* hotel/spa/golf resort and price paid ~ Hospitality tray in room very limited in amount of tea, coffee, biscuits provided. No glasses provided for water or in bathroom AC/Heating controls difficult to operate, could not see instructions Reception area for Pool/Gym needs some urgent updating. Very dingy, marked paint, etc.
Uger booger
Uger booger
the grounds were lovely and staff fixed serval issues we had quickly
For the price we paid we expected more luxery, also what was advertised wasn't offered, the choice in the mini bar was poor. Wasn't impressed with the food on offer.
Breakfast. Was very good lots of selection of food, kind friendly and helpful We ate evenings in the bar area which again was friendly with kind Helpful and polite staff
I was totally satisfied with my experience staying at Dunston
The facilities and rural location.
Everything was fine.
Stunning hotel & great grounds
A little dated & a poor camp bed we requested for our daughter. Dreadful mattress
The whole weekend was very relaxed the staff were always so helpful and polite, we were celebrating my husbands 70th birthday, not much for young children to do but was expecting that, would definitely return
I don’t like coffee from machines but everywhere is doing that now ! Having to go down in the lift to have to go up again was a bit of a nuisance as we had a pram it couldn’t be avoided, but it wasn’t a problem and it didn’t spoil our stay
Location and grounds and building. Swimming pool
Room seemed smaller than on photos.
Breakfast was lovely, lots on offer and really tasty, coffee was also great.
Room was adequate, quite dated for the price you pay, it was clean and bed was very comfortable however i would expect it to be a little more updated. Something i was really disappointed with was the Spa. The relaxation pool was full of children playing and being noisy. It wasn’t very clean and the lighting was quite bright with no relaxing music. If I hadn’t been staying at the hotel and paid for an actual spa day i would have made a proper complaint. The treatments we received however were lovely and the relax room after our treatment was nice.
Very friendly and relaxing.
Such a long walk to get to the bedroom.
Breakfast was fine staff excellent
Rooms well below par for type of hotel tiles moldy shower screen .oldy exposed plater etc towel rail not working
Perfect location to meet up with family, great breakfast, super friendly staff, including reception, breakfast and bar staff
Nothing, everything was lovely
This was our 4 visit so we knew what to expect. The staff as usual were wonderful throughout. Good breakfast and lovely evening meals.
We found that the room me had was a bit tired. Shower head did not fit the socket. Carpets in the room very worn in places and the work surfaces in the room dusty throughout our visit. Thought your cleaning standards had dropped a bit.
Ligging
Ontbijt ver onder de maat
Age of building Size of room Countryside around hotel
Difficult negotiating buildings as signage very misleading in places Many people also found problems finding where to go and getting lost within the hotel
The pool & spa were excellent so relaxing we could of spent many more hours in there
Liked everything it’s a very beautiful setting
It was clean well groomed and friendly spa facilities were comfortable and had it all, steam room sauna, swimming gym! Great stay!
The property could use an upgrade in some areas, like the bedrooms, TV was old and dated! No fridge in the rooms, no safe in the rooms, etc
Bed was big and very comfortable, Breakfast was very good and staff very friendly
poor soundproofing of neighboring rooms.
The property was well situated, close to Norwich with easy access to surrounding area.
It was easy to get lost in the apparent labyrinth of corridors 😂
Breakfast was fabulous, plenty of it and a good range to choose from as well as a good time range to enable you to start the day as you would like.
very happy with all aspects of our stay
Great breakfast, always plenty no matter what time you went down. Comfortable bar to sit in during the evening. Nice room, comfortable bed. Gym, pool, sauna etc. are great and weren't busy when we went. Golf facilities and driving range are great.
Food not of the quality expected in a hotel such as this. Ate in the restaurant on the first night. Husbands burger was good I had the fish and chips. Fish was well cooked and plentiful. Chips standard. Mushy peas had no peas it was more like a green gravy, very cheap. I told my waitress but did not get a reply. The fish was £22.50 so I would have expected better quality. The next night we ate in the bar. Ordered 2 pizzas. They had run out of pizza bases so I had mine on a flat bread. I ordered the veg pizza expecting to have all the toppings as described however the feta and tzatiki were missing. Again at £18/19 a pizza very expensive for what we got. Service in the bar was also not great. 3 times they forgot to bring drinks over we had to go back and get them. Whilst we were there we saw several people complaining about the food and service. Again this is not acceptable for a hotel of this supposed quality. We would go back for the spa facilities and golf, however we will not be eating there again unless they can make the food and service match the price.
Pool was good size and wasn't too busy. Extremely comfy bed. Beautiful setting. Friendly staff.
Nothing but coffee machine would be nice!
Beautiful string and great facilities.
We were in a room with a connecting door which was like having a shower curtain up! Had 2 nights disturbed sleep. Duty manager was excellent when we complained.
Lovely staff. Nothing too much to ask
Some small areas of untidiness. An area under stairs with lots of dumped broken lamps
We have stayed about 4/5 times, and it is a lovely hotel, brilliant pool , staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are very clean and comfortable
This time we went we found everything is a little scruffy , the main thing was the cushions on the patio, they were ripped and dirty and not nearly enough if them
Staff were excellent, food was good all round
Furniture in room very dated
Quoting my teenage kids as we approached the front...."wow!". My family were very grateful that I'd paid so much for such a lovely hotel, not realising that it was actually reasonably priced. The gentleman on reception (Vishal I think) was amazing. He was so helpful and welcoming. The breakfast team were so friendly. I even got local tourist advice from the waiter as he refilled the buffet. Not sure if this level of great customer service is normal for Norfolk or if this hotel has got it right. Either way, we're coming back soon.
Nothing to dislike. Amazing hotel.
Comfortable beds and beautiful location
Breakfast felt chaotic
Excellent property and facilities
Nothing
Beautiful 'beams' suite but not great for tall people... could easily bash head on beams
Sirloin steak in the restaurant was poor quality
It looks fantastic when pulling up to the hotel. Very traditional look and promises a high standard on the face.
The service was underwhelming, it just felt like there weren’t any experienced hands especially in the restaurant overseeing the area. The food was also just about average for, it wasn’t bad just felt, again, underwhelming at the price point. Front of house was good and the room was serviced to a good standard in balance.
Excellent hotel every member of staff are so helpful and genuinely friendly. Nothing is ever too much trouble to assist in making your stay pleasurable. Kerry in the bunker bar went out of her way to assist but all of the staff should be proud of their attitude which is a shining example to other hotels. First class amenities in beautiful grounds would not hesitate to recommend. We extended our stay an extra night and will not hesitate to try another q hotel to compare as this was our first stay in a q hotel. Will definitely return to dunston hall.
Nothing to fault.
Nice family time at the hotel
I would appreciate to be allowed some family fun time with water games at the pool.
Room was very comfy and loved the air con. breakfast was lovely but wasn't a fan of having to pay for some breakfast dishes, The grounds were lovely. the staff were very attentive and polite apart from the breakfast I would of given a 10
having paid for breakfast, on top of what was already paid for, and would of liked some shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom,
A lovely property in lots of grounds, good size family room
We had to have our room changed after 1 night due to an issue, we were told it was a superior room however the beds and pillows were very uncomfortably compared to the first room we were allocated and the storage wasn’t as good but we did have a fridge. The breakfast was good with lots of choice, but the cooked food was either a bit undercooked or very over overcooked ! Bar food not so good and not hot enough.
The staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. A slight problem with one of our evening meals was quickly remedied. The pool layout accommodated both children and lane swimmers with ease.
We were allocated room 323 on the top floor. It overlooked a roof covered in AC units. The room was very clean (thanks Dawn) but had no safe or refrigerator. The air conditioner worked well but was quite noisy. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant were excellent.
Our room, 323 requires maintenance. The toilet roll holder was loose. The towel hook on the bathroom door was broken off. The handle on the window was also missing, making it impossible to pull the window closed
Lovely building. On our spa day the only downside was walking between swimming pool to lunch. Not far in the scheme of things but things to consider if you have mobility issues.
As above
This is fourth time we’ve stayed here so we do like the hotel. Nice gardens and grounds. Easy parking. Gym and indoor swimming pool.
Our room was a maze to get to, downstairs, along a corridor then upstairs along another corridor. Room did not have a fridge or a safe.
Beautiful building, great spa, lovely staff.
Nothing at all!
Service grounds were lovely clean
Beds
Location is perfect for us. Just outside the city. Room was fab and comfy. Staff were excellent (special mention for Lilly who was excellent) wine and food all excellent. Will be booking again soon.
Nothing. All fab.
Well made and beautiful architecture
It’s a bit of a maze when trying to get to your room
Delightful, friendly staff, good breakfast
It would be lovely to enjoy eating breakfast on the terrace!
The restaurant has really upped its game over our previous stay.
The comfort of the bed . The friendly staff .the indoor pool
We loved our stay here at Dunston Hotel. Location was beautiful. Facilities were amazing. We really enjoyed the pool and spa. Would have loved to stay longer. Will definitely come back.
Breakfast was a good selection, all staff were friendly and helpful.
Impossible to find the room from the (incorrect) room numbers shown in the lift. We had booked a wheelchair accessible room through Booking.com but strangely it had a bath rather than a wet room, I was told I'd booked the wrong type of room (couldn't find any notes explaining the bath situation in my booking so not sure what i could have done differently) and they would attempt to swap us, to which I had no promised update until I checked at reception again hours later with a different staff member to be told all rooms were now full. They apologised that my wife couldn't access the washing facilities of the room, not an ideal situation from a 4* hotel. Shower curtain had a brown mark and residue about 2/3 up the curtain with a long black hair in (not ours), mentioned to reception. Wish we'd booked a bargain Premier Inn.
It was a lovely place to stay Clean, bed was amazing Staff was friendly The grounds are amazing Would recommend.
We stayed 2 nights and can honestly say there wasn’t anything we didn’t like
The building is magnificent
It is tired and could do with refreshing.
Lovely building very comfortable room clean linen and bathroom comfy bed pretty setting. Very reasonable prices
Service a bit slow at times but understandable when busy. Some areas looked a little tired but acceptable nothing really to complain about
Dreadful decorations, very much a corporate looking hotel. Somber, overbearing decor and dated. In need of a makeover.
Golfen naast de deur. Keuken van de brasserie prima.
Keuken bar niet zo goed.
Pool area breakfasts location and grounds
Same dish on bar menu was with different ingredients each night ie child burger with :without bacon; quinoa salad completely different quantities.
Breakfast was good. Dinner was excellent with great service, friendly and attentive staff. Staff were friendly and attentive from reception to restaurant.
The breakfast plates could do with being a little larger as you could not get a full English on them, you had to do a balancing act. Service was slow on the second morning and had to keep chasing for drinks. Dinner prices are a little expensive. There are no adult swim times children are allowed in all day.
Great location, generous sized accommodation set in woderful grounds and with good range of facilities at excellent value. The breakfast was very good.
Aircon too severe in public areas and not easy to control in our room. Ambient music rather intrusive. Dinner a little expensive for the quality provided.
Excellent choice, and great location close to City
Comfortable bed and room with upgrade to suit Nice spa and pool, friendly staff and beautiful surroundings
The staff are very friendly.
Some parts of the hotel are quite dated. It's a massive hotel so no doubt very expensive to maintain but some parts just felt tired such as the swimming pool and changing rooms.
Rashard the head receptionist/manager was Amazing. Highlight of stay.
Everything else was poor to disgusting. The way the bar was run at night was a shambles, everything takes far to long. One of the bar staff spent 5 minutes complaining to me about his manager. Breakfast went a similar way and quality of produce very poor even the juices were watered down! I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and this has been the worst when compared to the amount paid. I updated to the pent house suite. It did not seem like an upgrade, we spent 5 minutes in the room, the beds were awful, there wasn’t a shower head, it was extremely dirty and felt like I had gone back in time 25 years. I have had better stays in premier inns. Avoid avoid avoid
Nothing it was a Factory Farm Hotel
The email prior to arriving "Dinner Credit book ahead save! at 30GBP has been approved!". This actually was pay £30 and get £35 dinner credit. I feel this totally fails under the Trader Descriptions Act. The rooms involved going down a floor and then after a walk goinf up a floor with suitcases. Our Classic Kiong (room 170) overlooked building works.
The building was fantastic. Close to the things we wanted to visit. Air conditioning in the room was a plus. Drinks we had were great. Spa swimming area was good.
There was some things I didn’t like but I’m a local and support local businesses so I prefer not to say but happy to share direct with the hotel
