Everything about this pub was lovely. We found it very easily on attractive village, Bolton's main street, were immediately welcomed and shown our adjacent (as requested) rooms by the owner. Drinks and later very good dinner were served by pleasant staff in a most attractive "olde worlde" bar and adjoining restaurant. Both our rooms were spotlessly clean, with very tasteful, modern decor/furnishings, plus good showers, towels and toiletries. An absolute credit to the owner and staff. At prices similar to - even lower than the - usually impersonal - Travelodges and Premier Inns of this world, The New Crown Inn in its lovely location, was an excellent choice . We'll at least call in again.
All was very, very good, so no complaints at all.
Modern room with smart tv, spacious bathroom. Friendly and very helpful staff. Plenty street parking outside.
Mattress a little hard, pub downstairs was a little rowdy but only until just after 10pm.
Excellent value. Food very good. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Nothing too much trouble
Nothing
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the New Crown Inn, and we will definitely stay there again in the future.
Nothing
It was clean, convenient and comfortable.
It would have been nice not to have to go out for breakfast as we were out of town.
Warm friendly welcome, great food. Well appointed room, clean and very comfortable.
A small upgrade to add a coffee machine would add another level of class
The Inn was lovely, in a quiet rural setting. The room was clean, attractive and comfortable. The people there were friendly.
The plug in the sink didn’t fit. There was no shampoo in the shower shampoo holder, and there was nobody there after 9am to check out with (we left the key in the door).
Perfect location, in small village but near main road. Staff were lovely, room clean, comfortable and stylish. Breakfast and evening meal excellent.
Nothing
Staff, food & the location is great
Nothing.
Staff are fantastic & the location is perfect.😁
Nothing
Cleanliness friendly and big thank you to Thomas for signing us in early you star would stay again 10/10 very highly likely
The friendliness of the staff, the convenience of the restaurant with good quality food and large portions. The cleanliness of the rooms and modernity of the provided facilities.
Lack of weekday breakfast provision. We had to drive to Appleby for breakfast.
Lovely staff, friendly atmosphere and good food.
Nothing to dislike.
We had a lovely stay at the New Crown Inn. It’s a wonderful, traditional English pub with plenty of character, and the location was perfect for us. Our room was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The hosts were absolutely wonderful, welcoming and friendly, which made us feel right at home. The food deserves a special mention. Our evening meal was fantastic, and the steak pie was absolutely superb! And the full English breakfast the following morning was simply wow… absolutely delicious and a great way to start the day. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return, much prefer to support a local business as opposed to a high street chain. A lovely pub, wonderful hosts, comfortable accommodation and genuinely amazing food. What more could you ask for!
Nothing.
The hospitality and friendliness.
Nothing really
Classy, friendly pub, food was amazing
Sofa bed was so uncomfortable
Single.room was a fantastic size and great shower room.
Nothing specifically.
Great room fresh crisp bedding
Everything was fine
The location was perfect and I was always able to park right outside the hotel. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. My room was very well equipped and it was great to be able to sit outside in the garden too as the weather was warm. I would love to return to the Eden Valley. There's so much to explore in the area and Bolton seems to be a lovely community.
The only down-side for me was that the portions of food were enormous! Might it be possible to offer smaller portions for people like me who don't have massive appetites but hate to waste good food?
Super warm welcome ' lovely country feel
Everything was fine
Relaxed pub in rural location
Didn’t serve breakfast mid week.
Nice pub with rooms. Fluffy towels and nicely equipped
Poor mattress with topper.
Comfortable and welcoming. Close to both Appleby and Penrith. Really nice rooms!
Clean and comfortable. Got a good night’s sleep in a very comfortable bed, and reasonably quiet for above a popular pub.
Would have had breakfast if it had been available on weekdays otherwise all really good.
Clean well decorated room, comfy bed, good shower. Staff really helpful & friendly. A lovely pub
Shame the cask beer was off.
Location, food and all staff were very helpful.
Stair carpet outside our room was loose and a trip hazard - light not working over the shower in the bathroom.
It was lovely. Nice sheets, big towels, nice food, lovely staff.
The shower did need a deep clean and de mould but it wasn’t as bad as some we’ve stayed in. The carpets on the stairs could be a trip hazard.
Excellent breakfast. Location a little remote Great welcome and great staff
Nothing
Clean, comfortable and convenient for where I needed to be fir work.
Breakfast was superb, room was very nice and clean. Lovely pub with great staff. Thoroughly recommended.
Nothing
Helpfulness and friendlinesd of staff, exceptional value for money for the single room. Very clean and modern. Unfortunate there's no breakfast but not a deal breaker. Quite room. Great location in village setting but close to Penrith
Not really anything to dislike
Lovely comfortable room
A bit noisy with the bar downstairs
Great location, lots of character and spotlessly clean. Food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.
Nothing.
Breakfast was great. Staff friendly. Locations good. Although don’t expect a working village as there is only the pub.
Gorgeous country pub, great room and the owners/staff were so lovely. Breakfast selection was really good, as was the pub’s food menu generally (very good for allergens too).
Nothing - all was great!
Comfortable room and a good place to break the journey up to Scotland.
The room was over the bar, so there some noise until after last orders.
Beer garden and room was lovely
Cereals and toast would be a nice option for breakfast
Friendly staff, nice room with great facilities, great food
Location for stopover. Excellent dinner and breakfast freshly cooked.
Nothing.
great place to stay
there were no gripes
Welcoming staff. Very comfortable room. Spacious bathroom
Very noisy, the pub was making noise until about 1am, then people came up to the room and were also noisy. Room not big enough for family if 4, the pull out bed was too small for 2 children.
Clean comfortable great staff great food
Second time I've stayed, great all-round & I would highly recommend the New Crown Inn.
The food portions a bit big for me.😂
The inn was absolutely lovely. It’s located in a beautiful village with so much charm and character. The rooms were spotless, very comfortable, and beautifully decorated. I especially appreciated the thoughtful toiletries provided, and the bed was extremely comfortable which made for a great night’s sleep. The food and drinks were exceptional and really added to the overall experience. What really made the stay special was the staff — everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it.
The only small downside was that I could hear some noise from the bar downstairs, although this is to be expected in an inn with a lively atmosphere. My dad stayed in another room and didn’t hear anything at all, so I think it was just the location of my room and it being a Saturday night.
Great place to stay & I will definitely stay here next time I'm in the area.
Having to leave.
Breakfast was good although portions on the large size for us. Owners very helpful and friendly
Would have liked to have had cereal/fruit and yoghurt choice at breakfast.
Breakfast was great and cooked to order at a time chosen by us, our room was on the front so road side, we chose to open the window as we like a colder room to sleep so noise from morning movement was probably louder but didn’t stop us sleeping well
As it was only an over night stop, we couldn’t find anything to fault this location, we didn’t have an evening meal but looked good
Very comfortable, recently refurbished rooms. Food was excellent and plentiful (I cycled there, so was hungry). Team at this family run inn were welcoming.
No complaints.
Great place this. Lovely quiet rooms at the back, super pub menu with separate dining area, parking out front, really friendly staff. Absolutely nothing not to like about this place, all located in an exquisite village a couple of miles off the A66
Nothing
Lovely food, good drinks selection and friendly welcoming host's. I will definitely stay again if I'm in the area
Staff were super friendly, bed linen excellent quality and breakfast was exceptional!
This is honestly likely personal preference but the mattress was so soft and we are too larger people so ended up with one of us on the floor.
Clean comfortable and lovely staff
Storm damage to the aerial meant the tv didn't work fully, although for us this was not an issue, and not much people can when it is storm damage.
Nice and pleasant parking was poor room was small and I had to ask for more milk and tea instead of the room being serviced each day it was left and I ran out of tea and milk which I had to get myself food we really good but one night it took over 50 mins for the food to arrive when asked where my food was I was told that they had 50 covers in the beer garden dogs need to be better controlled and not as noisy
Tiny room had too ask twice for more tea and milk and then I had to get it myself room was never serviced tiny bed
Great venue and lovely little bar. Rooms were really clean
Friendly welcome, shown to my room, secure modern room. Great location for a stopover going North from the South
Lovely location Excellent accommodation Great food Friendly staff
Nothing
Clean and traditional countryside pub excellent staff and good food.
Pleasant dining area. Good, cooked breakfast. Good coffee. Lovely pub atmosphere on arrival. Good location. Good choice of evening meals and drinks. Plenty of hot water. Good shower.
There were no obvious cereals or toast and preserves. We had to wait about half an hour for our cooked breakfast to arrive. The sink plug in the room was faulty and the mirror light did not work.
Lovely friendly staff very helpful
Nothing
Staff were really nice and friendly
Shower could be better
Good location, good food and staff were brilliant.
The TV wouldn't change onto it or channel 4 or 5 .other than that it was a lovely place to stay.
Lovely lively pub. Excellent food and comfortable rooms.
the room was to a pretty high standard for a country pub style, all clean and tidy, with spotless shower room, and good amount of space for a single too. just be aware that as in the case when I stayed there was a private party in the bar, a fair amount of customers in high spirits were very audible throughout, so not really possible to get an early night, once the pub was closed it was super quiet. not a complaint just something to be mindful of.
The cooked breakfast was really really swimming in fat/oil, I also found the breakfast menu a bit limited, if a vegetarian, would have been very restrictive., such a shame as the evening food had been good. If someone had asked me I would have complained but I didnt see anyone once my food had been left at my table.
Great location. The village is beautiful and really easy to get to. Beds were huge and the rooms were quiet. Food was amazing and the staff and locals are very friendly.
Great hosts and lovely room. Food was excellent aswell
Nothing
Breakfast and dinner were great. Staff are so friendly. Room was very comfy. Brilliant location for anglers right near the rivers Eden and Lyvennet.
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Lovely atmosphere in the bar/restaurant and good food.
It was a bit chilly.
Good quality products in bathrooms Food was excellent
Rooms above bar area - some noise .
Clean, nice room, great staff, great pub
Tv didn’t work in the room Staff were attentive but no tv, Room was cold no heating on
Comfortable, clean and peaceful nights sleep
Nothing
Beautiful and quiet location. Staff super friendly and attentive. Absolutely delicious food ( breakfast and evening meal ). Beautiful and very clean rooms. Nice bar evening atmosphere.
Nothing really. It was rather cold in the room and after messing with the radiators for a little bit I gave up but heard the staff mentioning at breakfast to some other guests who said they had been cold that the thermostat must have been turned down in the hallway by other guests so know for next time
The hotel was clean and the room was a good size as was the shower. The food in the pub was excellent.
You you hear noise from the bar but this stopped at a reasonable time.
Nice room
I thought it was in Appleby itself but it's actually 5 miles away.
Nicely presented with attractive doors and facilities
As a type 2 diabetic sweetener in the room would be welcomed - and there are lots of us. An anti slip bath mat for optional use in the shower . This as I found the floor very smooth and slippery with soapy residue - almost tumbled.
Lovely bedroom & evening meal was great.
Very cosy staff was lovely

Great stay, incredible staff, really lovely room that'svery well cleaned! Great value for price, will stay again.
Just that the tv was tiny and also didn't work.
Its location
Bedroom was on the small side
The property is clean, tidy and really well kept. The room itself was really nice. It was spotless!! The food was amazing and so were the staff!!
Nothing.. I’m going to stay again!!
Breakfast bacon roll coffe and juice was excellent considering the excellent rate charged for the room. The staff and locals nice and friendly and made me feal relaxed.
Bedroom door would not lock from outside but i did not try to hard as i knew my belongings would be safe in the room, a plug that stayed shut on the wash hand basin would be better for water usage. No channels available on TV.
Cosy and comfortable with great food and friendly staff. The Inn is also the hub of village life and popular with the locals so you also get a warm, friendly atmosphere. You can eat and drink in the cosy bar sitting in the corner by the fire. Or if you want a quieter or more formal meal such as a family occasion have a table in the restaurant area. The food was very good with generous portions, especially the full English breakfast! The bedroom was very comfortable with a piping hot en-suite shower.
The property is obviously an inn and popular with locals. So if you were an early to bed type you would expect to hear some laughter and chatter from the bar downstairs. But nothing that disturbed me. If anything it added to the warm, friendly atmosphere of the property!
Food was excellent staff was very friendly and so was the old boys at the bar🤣 shower was good
The bed wasn’t great. tv Ariel wasn’t working due to a storm so that couldn’t be helped
Great friendly pub, clean & comfy bed, hot shower, great food.
It’s a popular pub so expect some chatter until 11, didn’t bother us.
Excellent food. Room clean and well presented. Quiet surroundings
The room was bit chilly.
