Forss House

We booked a room in the hotel not in a cottage nearby seperated from the hotel. Due to booking.com.

The dining/breakfast room with garden view. Forss House is beautiful. Food was very good (dinner + breakfast), personnel very friendly. Free parking.

Upon arrival we were informed that we won´t be staying IN Forss House but close-by in an apartment, walk-way approx. 3 minutes. Considering that this stay was the most expensive of all our trip, I was disappointed. The apartment was OK, consisted of beautiful bath room, nice bed room with a too-small-bed and a living room where we did have a sofa but no chair. In my opinion the living room was not cozy at all and surely did not meet the standard of what I though I had booked. In the hotel they told me that - if I had booked directly with them - they would have told me that I won´t be staying IN Forss House, but in an apartment.

Nice quiet, warm, big room. We were in The Falls, a separate "cottage". It might have been cosier and more special to have stayed in the older main building which had a lovely, very "Scottish" feel..Nearby nice walk along the river to the beach (although it was too wet to do when we were there).

Far too expensive for what you get. In fact we realised they were charging a lot less on the day for rooms than we had paid when we booked well in advance. They could at least have given us breakfast! Dinner was a bit disappointing. We were charged over £ 200 for just 2 nicely cooked but nothing out of the ordinary, smallish portions 3 course meals with no wine and were seated by the kitchen door in a rather chilly conservatory with little atmosphere.

Bed uncomfortable. No support in pillows. Window held open with piece of wood. Staff flat upstairs and noise of creaking floors and furniture moving kept us awake most of the night 😟

A bit overpriced, especially dinner

Really in a pretty location, great walks especially down to the beach from the hotel and the main house is enchanting. The staff are a real asset and we adored dinner and pre-dinner drinks. Really made the place work.

Our room was a little tired, one day they forgot to hoover and bed wasn’t really properly made, I won’t show photo as it will put people off which I don’t want to do, as the hotel is nice. We had hoped to fish in the local river but that’s no longer possible but views and grounds are really lovely

The place is old and tired and needs about £3 million spending on it to fix everything and make it look good. For example our patio doors didn't lock, the shower was blocked, only one lamp in the room worked.

Great hospitality. First rate breakfast. Evening meal was excellent.

Located in a tight woodland just outside of Thurso, Forss was a quaint hotel set up next to the river. The property was quiet, and staff were friendly and the outdoors were peaceful. The restaurant was lovely. Welcome drink, fantastic seafood and service and tea by the bar.

The cabin was not part of the main house and felt a little lackluster from the beginning. This was unclear in the booking process. The staff were young and friendly, but for a 4 star at this price, they forgot requests often. Final pricing at the end of the stay was unclear, what was included or not included in breakfast/set-dinner-menu was not broken down and we left spending about $100GBP more than expected.

Manque de pression dans la douche et de meuble pour poser ses affaires dans la salle de bain.

Les chambres étaient très bien, situées, elles étaient juste à côté de la maison principal avec un joli jardin. Elles étaient très pratiquent pour des personnes à mobilité réduite. Les salles de bain étaient très agréables.

Le petit déjeuner, on aurait préféré un buffet plus accessible.

La gentillesse du personnel Son attention et sa réactivité face à un oubli de notre part après notre départ : nous avons oublié notre liseuse. Après avoir vérifié, elle était restée derrière nous et ils nous ont proposé de nous l'envoyer à l'adresse de notre choix, très facilement, avec succès. Merci beaucoup

I think it was very expensive for what it was, the rooms weren’t special, the bar area was very small, the food served in the restaurant for dinner was only a set menu and the options weren’t very nice. They had run out of tomato ketchup at breakfast

Romantische, maar zeer kleine, kamer. Basic ingericht. Diner met lekkere gerechten met mooie smaken maar een aantal gangen waren erg karig, te kleine porties. Erg duur (£105) Matige prijs-kwaliteit verhouding.

Beautiful grounds and the room had the most fabulous bath! Staff were super friendly.

Breakfast acceptable for meat eater. A vegan breakfast was requested but not delivered. There was no additional vegan options, offered 3 options from main breakfast and received a small portion of mushrooms, 2 small potato scones and one tomato. Not value for money

The location and main house were beautiful. The cottage was run down and badly maintained, the inside was nicely furnished but a chair and set of drawers both broken. The cleanliness was poor, lots dead flies in the blinds and generally dusty and lots of cobwebs

Beautiful grounds, room was not in the main house, that was a little disappointing. Service was fantastic. House was lovely, beds were ok. Bathroom ok. The food was good, but severely overpriced.

Room too hot. Had to tell them how to fix radiator. Must have been over 30 degree Grass overgrown Asked for food at 7.30 for my 14 year old and was beliitted. "This is a 2 rossette star restraunt sir. We dont do burgers" Asked for draft beers. "Dont do draft" Staff seemed overwhealmed at mealtime Beds not split and was a big deal for them Felt like they were just cashing in on NC500 transient tourists Very STUFFY in all senses of the word. Got a free drink due to the 2 hour inconvenience with the room heat

Beautiful standalone house backing onto a waterfall. Tastefully decorated, very spacious (spans 3 floors) and beds were very comfortable.

We were separate to the main house in the Kiln House so didn't see the staff except at check in and check out. Nor did we have the opportunity to see / use any facilities in the main house as we didn't opt for breakfast. Since the lodge felt like an Airbnb, it would be good to include a kettle and a microwave at least so customers can just self cater.

Loved the location. A short walk to the waterfall with a lovely outlook. The staff were super friendship and very helpful. To mention names Adrian and Janet. We had a brilliant evening meal and breakfast- 10 stars for the chef- sorry i didn’t ask for his/ her name. The bed was super comfy, room spacious and overall a relaxing experience. Thank you!

There was nothing that we didn’t enjoy about our stay at Forss House, apart from the brevity of our stay.

Charming Old Manor House, with great Bar and leather lounges. We stayed in a spacious workers cottage a short walk from the Manor House, with a beautiful stream and waterfall outside our windows. A relaxing 3 night stay.

Sehr gut war die Lage der Zimmer (Suite im Nebenhaus) mit Blick auf den Bach.

A bit pricey

Sehr ruhig gelegen in einer wunderschönen Gartenanlage nahe bei den Wasserfällen. Sehr gute Küche. Freundliches Personal

Automatisch werden 10 % Servicegebühr auf die Preise geschlagen. Man wird nicht davon in Kenntnis gesetzt außer man fragt nach und will ein Detail der Endrechnung. Dann hat man die Möglichkeit das zu ändern.

De diners in het restaurant waren uitstekend. Mooie inloopdouche in de kamer.

The location is superb. It was extremely peaceful. The garden is stunning. We enjoyed having a groundfloor room with big sliding doors leading onto a wild grassy patch in front. Also had a lovely walk along the river.

Rather abrupt reception but perhaps the staff were busy with the dinner guests.

Great property. Very Large rooms etc and fascinating building. On site restaurant and the food was lovely and the restaurant setting is also lovely. Fancy breakfast as well. Just a lot to eat!

I didn’t realise the restaurant was a fixed price and expensive menu but I guess since it is a somewhat remote location I understand why they might choose to do it that way, to guarantee a certain level of income. Al a carte would have been better but it’s on me I didn’t check it out more thoroughly. I just assumed it was a normal restaurant rather than a fancy 3 courses. Was a shock the meal cost 50% more than the accommodation for our party of 5 but as I said, that’s on me. With 3 kids late teens early 20s I’d probably have gone somewhere in town for dinner but for a special meal just for my wife and I it would be perfect.

Rural location so need a car. Room very comfortable and a nice size. Bar lounge seating area very conducive for chatting with friends.

Dinner was a formal set menu so we didn’t eat there since we don’t have the appetite for multiple courses. Would have eaten there if we could have had a main meal only as the menu did look good.

Room we were given needed redecorating,new linen and towelsneeded l,it's of things poor with room not a good standard.

The rooms were so wonderfull. The bath and shower we out of this world. The bed was the best l have slept in the last 6 weeks.

We were extremely disappointed with our two night stay, particularly given the high cost of the booking. The property felt sub standard and in urgent need of significant refurbishment, both internally and externally. I had also made an accessibility request for the bathroom in advance, which should have made it clear that mobility needed to be considered when allocating the room. Despite this, we were placed in accommodation outside the main house, accessible only by going down and then up two large flights of stairs. This was completely unsuitable and made the stay far more difficult than it should have been. Overall, the experience did not reflect the price paid, and we left feeling very dissatisfied.

Ganz zauberhaft sind die außerhalb des Haupthauses liegenden Zimmer (z.B. Kiln House). Das Haus hat Flair, gut bestückte Whisky-Bar. Das Abendessen ist gut, aber auch recht teuer. Nettes hilfsbereites und kulantes Personal.

Leider waren die Räumlichkeiten nicht ordentlich gereinigt. Es gab viel Staub, z.b. unter dem Sofa. Verblasste Plastikblumen und vertrocknete Topfpflanzen im Restaurant sollten besser entsorgt werden. Frühstück ohne Buffet war anstrengend, mit wenig Auswahlmöglichkeiten. Kaffee ungenießbar.

Viaggiavamo con un chihuahua e ci hanno sistemato nel posto piú nascosto del giardino in un « bungalow da campeggio », sporco e pieno di insetti, il bagno era vetusto , maltenuto e sporco. Nonostante avessimo prenotato la cena abbiamo dovuto annullarla a causa del menu con sola scelta di cacciagione e alla mia richiesta di avere alternative si sono dimostrati arroganti e non disponibili… consigliandomi un ristorante di tapas. Abbiamo dunque organizzato la cena da soli senza il loro aiuto in una località molto isolata. Pessimo rapporto qualità/prezzo.

Room wss comfortable, clean, with high quality linen and towels

Breakfast was okay, but my friends was woefully inadequate. Half a tomato and approx 4 small mushrooms sliced up, and 1 piece of toast, leaving him still hungry. We booked a twin room as we are just good friends and do not, nor want to, share a Bed !!.however, the room had a double bed when we arrived ,even though this was sorted out very quickly, it was a little embarrasing as we are not a Couple. We have both travelled to many parts of the UK and Europe both professionally and as friends, to Hotels that exceeded, or met our expectations, the Forss house Hotel did not

The location is not especially near to anything for a short stay - we think we would have gotten more from the location with a longer stay to explore the amenities.

Dreadful greeting when we arrived. Staff looked stressed. Rooms were made up wrongly and the heating was far too warm in rooms. Wasn’t enough staff at work clearly and any simple request felt like it was a real difficult ask for them to address One staff member challenged our booking and stated we hadn’t booked what we asked for. We provided the emails to demonstrate that we had asked for what the hotel didn’t initially provide. They then agreed we were right after making a fuss that they were correct. Unnecessary bad feeling in first 5 minutes that could and should have been easily diffused

We rented one of the cottages by the waterfall- the sound of water was so relaxing. Bed was very comfortable- the house is just exceptional

The property has lots of character with a really nice whisky bar and the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The restaurant food was well presented and of a good standard if pricey.

Our room was tired and in need of some decoration. The furniture was pretty worn and in need of replacement.

Tolles ländliches stilvolles Hotel

The beds were super comfortable and the room was nicely remodeled. I felt that they had some nice modern touches with charging outlets and the colors on the room were soothing.

The hotel is under renovation and there is some painting and other work being done. Just makes it feel like a cheaper property when they are in fact charging (what I think) a substantial rate.

The location, staff and food was amazing .. Added to the most amazing whisky bar with phenominal staff knowledge

Superb ‘fishing themed’ old fashioned style hotel in a lovely setting, with wonderful staff. A rare find in these days of corporate modern boxes.

Cadre magique, exceptionnel. Confort impeccable. Repas 4 étoiles. Service irréprochable avec le sourire du personnel.

Friendly staff. Quiet. We were in the Mill House and had lovely views of the waterfall from our windows. Our dinner was superb.

Very costly restaurant, where staff was most likely instructed to make sure they could do two rounds. For little choice in the menu and a bill of PSt 250 for 2 persons, it is a shame that good food and wine must be swalloed one after the other. Staff was constantly asking if we were ready and pushing us to rush.

I don’t think we got to spend enough time exploring the grounds but the hotel itself is well appointed for a property of its age. The bar area is relaxing with a number of gins and whiskeys on offer. The food was amazing, they have a brilliant chef!

We didn’t know at the time of booking that we weren’t staying in the main hotel but had been offered a room in the ‘Millers Cottage’. Although very cute the walk to the main hotel wasn’t well lit so take a torch! Also, the room above us was occupied and although they weren’t throwing a party you could hear every footstep and conversation. Not the greatest night sleep!
