Join me, reader, for a kafkaesque tale of incompetence, dysfunction, and desperation. My stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Manhattan/Midtown East was the worst encounter I have had at any hotel, Airbnb, homestay, or any other form of lodging. I have had better experiences camping. This story includes tears — not only my own, but also those of a front desk clerk. Things began normally enough when my partner and I tried our luck at checking in early, around 1:30PM. We were told they would probably have a room for us at 2:30PM. We sat in the crowded, loud lobby with other guests, then tried again at 2:30PM. We were told to wait again, until 3PM. We waited. We overheard other guests complaining that their room keys didn’t work. The desk staff reported that locks were being changed, and made new keys for these guests. These guests were then able to get into their rooms. They had to wait in endless lines for the elevator; it seemed extremely annoying, but that’s life sometimes. We couldn’t wait to get out of the lobby. Twelve hours later, we would look back on this as a time of innocence. At 3PM, we got our room key. My partner asked if our keys would be changed. The staff replied that our floor would have the locks changed the next day. We would need to come back for new keys then. Oh, if only we had known… At the time, we felt lucky: we could forego the long line for the elevator and walk up to the 4th floor. When we entered our room, we found an ADA-accessible space. The extra room was welcome! The bathroom design was not. The roll-in shower (nice) was poorly designed (not nice); it flooded not only the entire bathroom, but also the whole tiled entry area. I felt bad for anyone who uses mobility aids who might need to navigate these wet tile floors. In any case, we would deal with it. We unpacked for our four-night stay. We were in town for a conference, so we met up with colleagues in the afternoon, then grabbed drinks with a friend in the evening. We returned happily to the hotel around 11:30PM. We walked to the 4th floor. We held our key card to the reader…and nothing happened. We tried the other card. Nothing. We tried again. Nothing. My partner walked back downstairs and returned with two new keys. We triumphantly held one to the newly-replaced key reader. Nothing. We tried the other card. Nothing. We tried and tried. Nothing. He returned to the desk. He trudged back upstairs with yet another set of keys. Nothing. I sat on the floor and commiserated with other guests whose keys were not working. They received replacements. Their replacements worked. Ours did not. The front desk clerk did not believe my partner — perhaps we were using the wrong key or trying to open the wrong room. Perhaps we did not know how to touch a key card to a reader. Whatever they suspected, they came to our room to try for themselves. They could not enter. Midnight came and went. We stayed upbeat, recapping our evening, joking with other guests, and sharing our incredulity that this could take so long. Eventually, despite promises to return, we realized that no one was coming to let us in. My partner returned to the lobby. More keys, no entry. 1AM came and went. I realized that sitting near the room was futile, so I joined my partner in the lobby. I explained that I was here for work. I had no access to my laptop, my clothing, anything. They needed to use a master key to let us in. It turns out, they had already tried. There was no way in. Think about that: the hotel could not gain entry to its own room. What if we had time-sensitive medication inside? What if we had taken advantage of their pet-friendly policy and had a cat or dog in the room? The horrifying possibilities rolled through my mind as the hours continued to pass. Eventually, I had to beg to have a downstairs bathroom unlocked, as I had no restroom of my own to use. (It had no toilet paper, of course.) I tried to fill a cup of water at the bottle filling station. Barely a trickle came out. My phone died, then my smartwatch. I was dehydrated, exhausted, and increasingly panicking about work. I begged the front desk clerk to do anything at all. 2AM came and went. I cried. I explained that I had a major professional presentation in the morning. I had no phone, no clothing, and no computer. At least, I needed another room where I could go sleep while my partner waited to gain access to our things. The clerk insisted on trying our existing room again. Of course, we could not get inside. This was just another waste of time. The mood in the lobby was unhinged. The clerk cried while trying to contact a manager. A woman waiting for a room seemingly through some kind of sketchy backchannel system — a “lady of the night,” perhaps? — talked loudly on FaceTime. The automatic door opened and closed every few seconds. We teetered on the edge of insanity. Around 2:45AM, I was finally given another room, as well as a tiny toothbrush and a packet of toothpaste. I figured I would set the alarm clock in the room, since I could not use the alarm on my dead phone. There was no alarm clock. I called to set up a wake-up call, but when the same frenzied front desk clerk picked up and promised to call me herself, I realized I could not rely on this system. I could not entrust my presentation to her. My partner needed a room to sleep in — separately from mine, so I could sleep as immediately as possible, while he continued to try to get to all of our belongings — and I realized I had no choice except to wait for him to be placed in a room. That way, I could make sure he could call me to wake me up. His phone still had a tiny bit of battery, which is the only way we knew what time it was. 3AM came and went. My partner was still in the lobby. He was given a room around 3:15AM. I tried to use room-to-room calling to contact him. It did not work. The clerk tried to connect us. We got stuck in a loop of dial tones and busy signals, occasionally connecting with the front desk clerk who offered to pass messages between us. After far too long, we were eventually on the line with each other. Nothing in this godforsaken place works. I tried to sleep around 3:30AM. With the HVAC system constantly kicking on and off and a minimum listed temperature of 68°F — in reality the temp was usually above 70°F, clearly a cost-cutting measure among so many others — sleep did not come easily. A flashing smoke detector did not help. Of course, with access to my own things (lightweight sleep clothes; an eye mask; a phone charger so I could play white noise) they would not have been a big deal. But of course, I had no such luxuries. I managed a hearty 4ish hours of sleep. My wake-up call never came. After 7AM, my partner awoke and returned to the desk. The building engineer swiftly opened the door to our original room. No one ever explained to us what had happened, or how it was acceptable for the hotel not to be able to gain access to its own rooms. My work trip was thoroughly ruined. My professional reputation has been damaged because this Hilton property could not operate as a legitimate hotel. The on-site manger the next day, Ms. Wright, was “very sorry to hear about [our] experience.” I left my business card with a desk clerk when I checked out and requested that someone contact me; of course, no one did. The management company (HHM Hotels, formerly Hersha Hospitality Management) could not be reached by phone. They did not respond to an email. If you are looking for good source material for a creative project to explore themes of indignity, absurdity, and mismanagement, I highly recommend a visit to the Hilton Garden Inn Manhattan/Midtown East. If you are hoping for a pleasant or even tolerable hotel experience, I implore you to stay elsewhere.
My husband and I booked 3 nights for a long weekend visiting family who are in the Midtown area. This was an awesome hotel choice. The hotel has been newly renovated, everything was very functional. Great bed, shower, etc. Simple and tasteful decor. The price point was very reasonable for what we got. Breakfast downstairs was also well priced, decent food and friendly service. The only downside of the hotel was on Saturday it took a really long time to get an elevator. Was better on Sunday. Definitely recommend!
Clean, newly renovated hotel in a great location - walk to coffee shops, restaurants, and the subway is 1/2 block away! Helpful staff. No problems with the elevators here, but I am used to NYC hotels so I expected to wait and was pleasantly surprised that it was not as long as others have said. Highly recommend!
As a Hilton Honors member, I try to be loyal to the brand. This was a terrible experience. Consistently seemed short staffed, 1 elevator working so long lines and wait times to go up or down (super fun with 27 floors), no answer or reply when messaging front desk, and to top it off fire alarms and evacuations in the middle of the night. Think walls- so although street noise on my high floor was minimal, I had to listen to neighbors and door slamming at all hours. Never again. Do better.
It has been well over a decade since we last visited NY. We had previously stayed at the Hilton Doubletree, on Lexington, but this is no more, so we chose the Hilton Garden Inn, on 52nd st for price and location. The hotel is located on east 52nd St. just a few yards down from 3rd Avenue, and a block from Lexington Ave, which has a convenient subway station serving a number of lines. The next Avenue down (east) from the hotel is 2nd Ave, which offers many restaurants, a major pharmacy, deli’s and grocery stores. And a stroll up to 59th Bridge under which is a ‘Trader’s Joe’ store. The hotel itself has recently had major renovations to some of its 200+ rooms We had been booked in at a basic level 6. No great view but the building opposite was just far enough away to alleviate feelings of confinement. The room itself was large and well appointed. Some have complained re the bed but we found it very comfortable. And bedside facilities excellent. Each had a reasonably sized side-table with good sized drawer. There is a goose-neck light for reading and a larger, wall side light above the table. The stand-out feature was the charging facilities. One USB C, point, two USB 2 points and next to them a power point. All points worked. The facing wall, above the desk, had a large TV, which worked well, though we only watched one item…the World Cup Final! But unlike some hotels with smaller screens, this one was large enough to view comfortably from the bed. To the right of the desk there is a standing led light, very bright! Next to this the open-plan wardrobe (not a fan of this style), and ironing board, and beneath, at floor level, the safe. Not easily accessible, but possible ‘safer’ than desk mounted ones! There also was a 3-drawer unit under the desk. and a strip light on the wall behind the tv. On the left of the desk a pod coffee machine and utensils. We drink a lot of coffee and would request extra pods which the staff happily supplied! And an unusual feature was a microwave oven. The bathroom was excellent. It incorporated the now-standard wall mounted dispensers both at the wash basin and in bath section. A big plus was the large wall mounted, illuminated mirror above the wash basin. (Excellent for shaving!) The shower is located above the bath, and the curtain fitted snugly well below the sides so no water leakage onto the bathroom floor. I have read on some reviews that people complained that they couldn’t turn the shower on without getting wet! I suspect they may have meant not getting wet with cold water! I find this perplexing. The bath tap has plunger control on top. So run the water until warm, stand at back of tub, lean forward and pull the plunger up and a lovely shower of warm water ensues! But maybe the reference was to a separate shower away from bath. An almost unique feature was that the air-con unit was floor mounted under the window, though the control is wall mounted. The unit has two speeds, and on high very quickly cools (or heats) the room, a bit noisy but, but once the room cooled, we turned off the unit and room stayed cool for a long time. The wall mounted control enables room temp setting, which when reached turns the unit off. Housekeeping was fine. A main complaint from reviews was the lifts. There are only two and both can seem slow. Especially in the late morning times as housekeeping staff are using them. At times it does seem that only one lift is available. But really, this was to us a minor irritation. The hotel offers a small restaurant-come sports bar, with moderate prices. Included is a Large TV and a fair sized pool table. From the window of our room (608) we could just see some greenery. On investigation this proved to be ‘Greenacre Park’. It is a lovely, serene place to relax for a coffee or breakfast or snack at any time. It is accessed best by walking up to 3rd ave, then left down 51st street and is found on the left a little way down. The area is paved, multilevel, has a delightful waterfall, trees and a number of seats, some under the trees and some under cover. The park was created and donated by members of the Rockerfellow family. By and large, the hotel counter staff were pleasant and very accommodating. Can we recommend this hotel? Yes! It is a little gem, just off the beaten track but close enough to services and a pleasant stroll to the delights of the main city areas.
Everything
I love everything
Room was very clean and had all the basic requirements of a room. Bed was comfy, TV was large and good to watch Netflix or other shows, and there was a Kheurig coffee machine and coffee pods. Nice window view. Location is near Lexington station of Train E, so convenient to get to 5th Ave, MOMA, World trade center, etc.
The front desk had a long line at the time of check-in. Line moved slowly and once I got there, the staff told me that my room was not ready. There were several other parties unable to go into their rooms because it was not ready yet. The check-in process was hung up and slow, and lobby was small in size compared to the number of guests.
The room, the location and the staff.
Nothing
Is it not mention food is halal or not .
Large rooms bathroom and shower there tv had cable and it was quiet
Location
Staff , cleanliness
I liked location and dining room room was very small but comfortable
nothing in particular
Lage
Grösse des Zimmers entspricht nicht der Buchung, es ist viel kleiner, nicht mal ein Koffer konnte irgendwo geöffnet werden
Very friendly and helpful front desk staff, very clean room and bathroom, excellent bed, and quiet room on 19th floor.
The exterior entrance was very dirty/funky and crowded with things like outgoing/incoming laundry crates
location
A security deposit of USD 100 is charged per stay. Since I made two separate reservations, I was charged a total of USD 200 for the two stays. I was informed that these deposits would be released back to my credit card within a few days. However, I checked on June 13 and the funds had still not been returned. I already sent a message regarding this matter but have not yet received a response..I find it unreasonable that an additional security deposit is charged and that the funds are then retained for several days after the stay has ended.
Ok

Si estaba bastante cómodo y bonito
Elevadores muy lentos y falló el aire acondicionado una noche . El aire acondicionado debería mejorarse
Location
Only 1 elevator working for 3 days
The location is fantastic. You can’t beat it. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. There are only two elevators for the entire hotel but I guess my rides were well timed as I didn’t wait much. My room had a great view. I struggled to figure out how to turn off the lights but eventually found the switch within the area of plugs and USB. The bathroom has a real door, which I appreciate. But you cannot turn on the shower without getting wet.
Comfortable room. Excellent staff
King room was quite small, but it didn't matter hugely
The location was very convenient and close to the main attractions, restaurants, and transportation. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our stay. The bed was also comfortable, which made it easy to rest after a long day.
The room could have been a little more spacious, especially with luggage. Also, the check-in area or elevators were sometimes busy, which caused some waiting. Overall, these were small issues and did not affect our stay too much.
I had a wonderful stayed room 2403 as a Diamond guest while celebrating our 23rd anniversary. The hotel kindly upgraded our room, and it was beautifully decorated with thoughtful amenities for our special occasion. The room was newly renovated, very comfortable, and beautifully maintained. The hotel location is also very convenient — right next to the metro station and directly opposite a lovely bagel restaurant. A very special thank you to Jennifer for the beautiful room decorations and amenities, and also to the reception team for their warm hospitality and excellent service. You truly made our anniversary celebration memorable. Highly recommended, and we will definitely stay again on our next visit.

Great location and great rooms!
Everything was good but no room service Or restaurants
Location and staff
Only one of two lifts working for much of my stay caused delays in such a tall building with staff and guests vying for the lift
Good staff and nice room.
One of the two elevators was not working, making it a long wait for elevator space. People nearby in hall or a room made noise late into the night, well after 12 midnight.
28 floors, sold out hotel, one functioning elevator, just one. Maid's carts took up half of the one tiny elevator that operated. The other elevator was non- functional for my entire stay. No service elevator either apparently. Took a half hour to get on the elevator to get to my room. In the morning it was better, only 20 minutes to get down stairs.
No hot water, no towels, elevator broken, flickering lights, loud environment, tiny bathroom. The room did not have towels when we checked in, and had to be requested from the front desk. then the next day house keeping took all the towels and bathmats from the bathroom and didn’t replace. towels had to be requested from the front desk again. The shower water never got hot. Half the elevators were broken causing long wait times to get up or down the 20+ stories. The lights in the room flickered constantly. The room never got all the way dark due to hallway lights. Sleeping was near impossible between the loud streets and the loud guests in the hallways.
No hot water, can’t change rooms, bad experience
In front of hotel is construction so it is loud during 8am-6pm outside the rooms. The lobby could be cleaner. I appreciated the breakfast box to go and free coffee. I noticed that front desk staff person allowed someone to go into held luggage room themselves which seems like a potential for errors or stolen property.

While the updates look promising, right now this hotel is down to one elevator, resulting in 9 min waits EVERY TIME.
Room itself was fine. Shower was fine, bed was fine. Most things were acceptable.
I was given a key to a room that someone else was occupying originally. As a woman traveling alone, this was a scary experience and did not make me feel safe in the hotel the rest of the time. I was given a different room. No accomodations or anything else were offered to me for, what I feel, is a huge mistake on their part. The elevators didn't work; the fridge in my room didn't work; towels were taken from my room and not replaced (bath mat and washcloth). The hotel was also under major construction, which is fine, I've stayed in hotels under construction before - but it was not mentioned in the booking, and it was EXTREMELY bothersome, as the construction was happening on my floor in the rooms entirely surrounding mine. The booking should have been labeled clearly that the hotel was under construction, and there should have been a room discount due to that.
The price was decent
Unfortunately the construction ruined the stay. Especially waiting for the elevator. Waited 10/15 min but then the elevator was full, my party of 4 couldn't fit. Didn't want to wait another 10/15ish minutes so we took the stairs. Would wait until construction is complete.
Location was wonderful! All of the midtown attractions were within walking distance and there were two subway stations within two blocks of the hotel.
Just construction, but it wasn’t terrible.
Hotel was clean nice people friendly, close to destination i was going. Price was.fair and reasonable
Hotel was under construction and nothing on site had mentioned it.
I was literally disappointed with the renovation ongoing there which I was not informed by booking.com If I knew I wouldn’t prefer to go., we waited minutes for elevator. Additionally bad looking of entrance made me unhappy. I was unhappy also in name of my guests. My daughter and son in law.
Room was so uncomfortable. Too small to move. Renovation also made us unhappy
Stay somewhere else for the price. Lobby is under construction and a disaster. Only one elevator works so you have to wait 5-10min each time. Elevator key card does not work so anyone can go up to any floor. Really really poor.
Beds were comfortable.
There was construction going on that was not noted when booking. There was no soap in the room.
Hotel was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and professional. Hotel was warm and shower was warm.
Parking was expensive but it is the city. I did not like the construction by the front because that can be a hazard.
Staff was friendly
They did not communicate they were under construction. One elevator for 20+ floors is insane. The room was clean however the shoes did not get hot.

La ubicación muy buena y el personal muy atento
Están de obras y solo funciona un ascensor en estos días. Para tantas plantas un ascensor es escaso
Where do I start .. I would echo what others have said , it's like a big construction site , dust and dirt everywhere, there are two lifts and take ages to arrive, building works started at 7am on Friday .. woken up by drilling is hardly ideal, and the room was dirty, sheets dirty, and there was someone's dentures on the windowsill Breakfast was a blueberry muffin and grapefruit juice and a bagel , no variation Loo roll and water sparce
I’m writing this from my room, because I can’t pretend this stay is going well. I travel to NYC monthly for work and, until recently, stayed religiously at another Hilton hotel. I loved that hotel. I wrote a glowing review about that hotel. I miss that hotel. But with my company’s office moving to Park Avenue, I needed something closer. I chose the Hilton Garden Inn Midtown East because I’m a Hilton Diamond and try to stay loyal, and because this property advertised something I value on business trips: an onsite restaurant serving breakfast and (in this case) dinner. Convenience matters when you’re working long hours and it’s February in Manhattan. Unfortunately, the hotel I booked and the hotel I walked into are not the same thing. CHECK-IN: THE RENOVATION REVEAL At no point — not during booking, not in the pre‑arrival reminders, not in the app chat — was I told the hotel was undergoing major renovations. So the first surprise of the trip was walking into a lobby that looked like it was mid‑demo. Plastic sheeting, construction equipment, exposed areas… the kind of thing that normally comes with a warning banner on the website. Only at check‑in did I learn the actual situation: The restaurant is completely closed. Breakfast has been replaced with a table of prepackaged pastries and random snack foods. From 8am–5pm, only one elevator is operational for a 28‑floor building. Guests are told to allow 15–20 extra minutes just to get downstairs. Construction noise is audible in the room, as the sound travels up the elevator shaft. The front desk delivered all of this with a cheerful “Sorry for the inconvenience,” as if I had been informed ahead of time and knowingly signed up for it. I had not. THE ROOM: SOME BRIGHT SPOTS, SOME SHRUGS To be fair, the room itself is not the problem. It’s spacious for Manhattan, with two queen beds and room to move around. There’s a microwave, a fridge, and a Keurig, which is genuinely helpful on work trips. The fridge, however, is not very cold, even on the highest setting. The room is carpeted — not my favorite in hotels, especially older ones. I prefer tile or vinyl because they feel cleaner and more modern. The space is functional, but (it being the weekend) the background noise of construction makes it hard to relax or take a mid‑day break. THE “BREAKFAST” THAT ISN’T One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was the advertised restaurant. I liked the idea of grabbing breakfast before work and dinner afterward without having to bundle up and wander the neighborhood. Instead, breakfast consists of: Packaged pastries Packaged muffins Packaged granola bars Packaged… other things As someone who is gluten intolerant, this is essentially a table of “absolutely not.” There is no hot breakfast. There is no protein. There is no real food. Just a folding table of carbs and shrink‑wrap. Even the free coffee station was out of coffee… THE ELEVATOR SITUATION This one deserves its own section. From 8am to 5pm, only one elevator is operational. For a 28‑floor hotel. Guests are told to allow 15–20 minutes to get downstairs. This is not an inconvenience — it’s a structural impairment to the stay. It affects: Getting to work Getting back from work Getting to meetings Getting to the lobby Getting anywhere It also means that if you forget something in your room, you have to decide whether retrieving it is worth another 20‑minute elevator gamble. There is a stairwell but it’s only for leaving, there is no access to enter and go up. THE PART THAT STINGS I was charged full price — $216 a night — for a hotel that is, in its current state, offering maybe half of its normal functionality. No disclosure. No warning. No concession. No adjustment. Just full price for a partial hotel. SUMMARY Pros Spacious room for Manhattan Microwave, fridge, and Keurig Good location for Midtown East and Park Avenue Staff at check‑in were polite Cons Major renovations not disclosed anywhere prior to arrival Restaurant completely closed despite being a deciding factor in booking Breakfast replaced with packaged pastries (not usable for gluten‑intolerant guests) Only one elevator operational from 8am–5pm for a 28‑floor building Construction noise audible in the room Fridge doesn’t get very cold Full price charged despite significantly reduced amenities Right now, I’m mostly disappointed. I chose this hotel out of loyalty and convenience, and instead I feel like I’m paying premium rates to stay inside a construction project. I’m still here and still trying to figure out how a hotel can be this disrupted without telling guests ahead of time. If anything changes before checkout, I’ll update — but at the moment, this stay has made me miss my old hotel more than ever.
I genuinely cannot believe I’m having to leave this review, however, please do not book this hotel in its current state. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn for our first family trip to New York, something we’d been really looking forward to. Instead of the experience we expected from Hilton, we walked into what feels like a construction site. Yes, it might be lovely once renovations are complete, but there is absolutely no way the hotel should still be open to guests without FULL, direct warning before arrival. We received no notification. No email. No call. Nothing. We booked in good faith and arrived completely unaware of what we were walking into. We were told it’s “on the website” and that “guests were informed,” but we certainly weren’t, and judging by conversations with others, we were not alone. We stayed in room 1308, and the noise was relentless. The elevator shaft is directly against the room and the sound comes straight through the walls. We traveled with our 1-year-old and trying to get them down at night or for his afternoon nap, was impossible. Every few minutes the loud mechanical grinding of the lift starts again. Normally, I’d take him out in the stroller, but between 8am and 5pm, the elevators are so slow and overloaded due to works that it can take 15–20 minutes just to leave the building. With a tired infant, that’s not just inconvenient and it’s unacceptable. On top of that: • Noise throughout the building • Dust and disruption • Limited facilities • Long waits for elevators • A general atmosphere of chaos For all of this, you’re given a “complimentary breakfast” which is extremely limited and frankly not very nice. It felt like a token gesture rather than a genuine attempt to resolve the disruption. This was meant to be a special first family city break. Instead, from the moment we stepped inside, the disappointment set in. The only way I can describe how this feels is like being scammed, paying full price for something that absolutely does not resemble what was advertised or expected from the Hilton brand. Hilton should not have kept this hotel open without directly contacting every single guest in advance and giving them the option to cancel or move elsewhere. Save yourself the stress, especially if you’re travelling with children. Until renovations are complete and the hotel is fully operational again, do not book.
Beware that this hotel is under renovations. There is nothing on the Hilton site indicating this, nor any mention in the confirmation. The restaurant and store are not open (minimal snacks/drinks available), only one elevator is open to guests during 8am-5pm, and there was never anyone at the front desk. The room was a good size, and it was quiet. I was able to pick my room in the app, but there was nothing indicating that it was an adjoining room, which I would have preferred to choose a different room. I am glad I did not have to go to the desk to check in our out. When I checked in, there was staff there, but it was total chaos. The room was pretty clean, but there was visible mold spots on the shower wall. The Irish pub next door was the highlight for me.
Do Not Book this hotel Booked this hotel using points and cash on December 2nd, 2025. No where at anytime before check in were we informed that the hotel was going to be under renovations. The restaurant was closed, the gym was closed. From 8-5PM each day one elevator was not available for guest use causing delays getting to the rooms and out of the hotel. We were awoken multiple days before 8am by construction sounds around us coming from inside the hotel. When complaining to the hotel, they blamed the oversight on corporate Hilton, they never apologized, nor, did they offer any sort of compensation for the issues with the hotel. When confronted about it after checkout, because they didn't even acknowledge the complaints at checkout, the front Desk Manager Delanie said they were working on a compensation offer. And I would receive an email shortly. It has been more than 2 days and still no email. Hilton should be ashamed to have this hotel with their branding. I've been an Honors member for years and have used Hilton properties all over the world and I have never had an issue this big or an issue that wasn't rectified almost immediately. That was not the case here. Because of that, Hilton has lost my brand loyalty. The value is not worth it. The Furniture is worn, the mattresses are horrible and general, because it's a construction site, the hotel is not clean. It feels more like a hostel than a welcoming midtown hotel.
First, the good. Our room was large by NYC standards, the bed comfortable, the "bathroom" well designed with an ample counter for toiletries and a large walk-in shower with good amenities (no actual bath tub). The restaurant was closed, but the hotel offered to go bags with a pretty good selection of snacks: a muffin, bagels with cream cheese, granola bars, fresh fruit, etc. The staff was very helpful and trying its best. The bad is the hotel is under active renovation. It has only two elevators to begin with, and from 8-5 every day one is reserved for construction crews. The result is some very long waits for the elevator, especially during peak check-out times as it fill with not only people but luggage. The crews seem to be ripping out all the drywall, and spring it in teh street until evening. For much of the evening, one hears the creaking of a trash truck compactor as the drywall is loading into the truck. Also, the hotel seems to be popular with partiers, as both Friday and Saturday night groups of young people banged on random doors and talked loudly, looking for their friends.
Location
Worst mattress we ever slept on on in our entire lives.
Bed so comfortable! Elmer, breakfast server, so pleasant. Elevator and handicap room perfect! Location close to the event we were attending.
Some stains on furniture in room.
The location was good. It's a nice and safe spot.
The cleanliness was not there, the trouble with getting an elevator at anytime of the day was a huge pain, a min 20 mins wait each time you need one. We lost a lot of time just waiting for elevators. Besides the hotel provided no prior notice about ongoing renovations at the hotel and the noise was all day and all NIGHT long.!!! Worst is that there was even a leak in the bathroom, and had to change people's room. I would expect a Hilton to be of higher standard. It was a mediocre hotel, smelly room without any great view of the city. So I don't think I'll go there again!
As Hilton property owners and Gold members, we have a deep appreciation for the brand’s usually outstanding portfolio. We transitioned to the Hilton Garden Inn Midtown after a phenomenal stay at The Quinn, expecting a continuation of that excellence. Instead, we found ourselves in a property that, for the safety of the public, should have been closed. We spent three nights and four days in what can only be described as an active, hazardous construction site. I take no pleasure in writing a review this critical, but the "unacceptable" conditions we faced demand a warning to others. The Litany of Failures: Safety & Environment: Entering the hotel was a physical challenge. Between the overhead cranes, debris, and toxic particulates in the air, we felt our health was at risk. The hotel should have been handing out hard hats at check-in. Infrastructure: Only one elevator was functional for guests, as the other was dedicated to construction crews. This led to massive delays. Room Maintenance: Our sink faucet was completely clogged; a plumber eventually had to replace a filter that was visibly filthy. Furthermore, we had no hot water in the shower for the first day. False Amenities: The "restaurant" and "workout area" were both closed for repairs—details never disclosed to us in advance. The "Breakfast": The promised breakfast was a joke—a brown paper sack containing processed, unhealthy, store-bought items. Cleanliness: While the rooms were marginal at best, the lobby cleanliness was abysmal. Management Response: I attempted to resolve this with the manager, Delaney. Given the circumstances, I requested a full reimbursement of our points. She would only agree to one night. While in a normal situation that might be generous, for a stay where the basic utility of the room (water) and the safety of the environment were compromised, it is simply unacceptable. Bottom Line: If a hotel is undergoing renovations this invasive, they have a moral and professional obligation to either close their doors or provide full disclosure to guests before booking. We were denied the right to make an informed decision and were instead charged to stay in a construction zone. Hilton Corporate needs to look into this property immediately
La ubicacion, podia ir caminando hasta el centro
No hay restaurant, no sirven desayuno
The room was comfortable and clean and the staff was nice.
One of the elevators were out so the options were wait for 20 minutes cram into the elevator with a bunch of other people like sardines in a can or climb 22 flights of stairs to get to our room. And then in the middle of the second night the fire alarm went off for an hour for a false alarm.
Location and facilities
The front desk was not gentil with my son and wife after checkout. They only ask to use the restrooms.
Buena ubicación
Casi Nadia habla español, si llegas de madrugada debes esperar hasta el check in así q debes estar atento de la hora
Very close to everything!
One elevator was not working and we were not told before our stay. Lots of wait times for the elevator.
The hotel started a MAJOR renovation on Jan 2nd. We were not made aware of that when we booked. We arrived on Jan.7th to find the bar and kitchen closed. The lobby is a construction zone. One of the 2 elevators is reserved for the construction crews, so be prepared to wait a LONG time for an elevator. The outside has a large dumpster dropped in the street for the construction teams to put debris. They have no storage for luggage so it is just piled in the lobby everywhere. To their credit the staff was doing everything they could to minimize the inconveniences, but there is little they can do. Consider other hotels until the remodel is completed.
