The hotel. The room. Clean
Restaurant was terrible. Food was bad. Ate multiple times.no good
We waited until the end of our seven-night stay to write this review because we wanted to give La Mer every opportunity to address our concerns and because we wanted to be fair about our experience as a whole. Unfortunately, despite some genuine attempts by management to make things right, our stay fell significantly short of what we expected based on the price we paid and the way these accommodations are represented. We had looked forward to this family vacation all summer. For the price we paid for this unit, we expected top-notch accommodations, thoughtful attention to detail and a level of service consistent with a high-end beachfront property. We certainly weren’t expecting perfection, but we also didn’t expect to spend so much of our vacation dealing with issues that should have been addressed before or during our stay. WiFi & Television Issues From Day One I do want to start by acknowledging Chazz, who was extremely helpful on our first day. There was no internet connection in the primary bedroom, which also meant we were unable to use the streaming-only television in that room. Chazz came to the unit and worked to remedy the WiFi situation. Even he seemed surprised that our television had not been set up to watch basic cable until he arrived. We genuinely appreciated his responsiveness and help. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of a series of issues we encountered throughout the week. The Parking Was One of the Worst Parts of Our Vacation The included parking was, without question, one of the most stressful aspects of our entire stay. We drive a Suburban, and we did the absolute best we could all week to navigate the incredibly tight spaces provided. Some advance warning about the size and accessibility of the included parking would have been extremely helpful before check-in, particularly for guests arriving in larger vehicles. Every time we needed to leave or return to the property became a source of stress because we were genuinely concerned about getting stuck or damaging our vehicle while attempting to maneuver in and out. To make matters worse, we seemed to be sharing this extremely limited area with a loading zone for the commercial space below us. There were times when we were forced to stop mid-maneuver because vehicles or deliveries were coming through the same area while we were attempting to enter or exit. When parking is advertised as being provided and included with a rental, guests should be given a realistic understanding of what that parking entails. Families traveling with a large SUV should absolutely ask about this before booking. The Unit Did Not Feel Like a High-End Accommodation There were numerous issues throughout the condo that individually might have been easier to overlook. Collectively, however, they left us questioning the quality of the construction, finishing and overall attention to detail. Perhaps the most shocking example occurred when we returned from the beach one day and discovered a large, gaping hole in the wall next to our front door. A fire safety fixture/hydrant had been mounted on the wall immediately beside the entrance and had apparently been knocked completely off, leaving behind a significant hole where the screws and mounting hardware had been. Beyond the damage itself, we were stunned by the placement of the fixture. It protruded from the wall directly next to the entrance in an area where guests, children, luggage, beach equipment and bags are constantly passing. The fact that it could be knocked from the wall so easily only added to our concerns about the quality and thoughtfulness of some of the construction and installation throughout the property. There were other details that contributed to the same overall impression. The lighting throughout the condo was unpleasant and inconsistent. In the primary bedroom, one light was an extremely bright, almost hospital-like white while another was yellow. Many of the lights throughout the unit had the same harsh quality. There were exposed wires underneath the televisions, which simply did not reflect the polished appearance we expected from a high-end rental. The refrigerator dispenser light and microwave light were not functioning. While these may seem like small details, when traveling with young children, those little lights are incredibly useful at night in an unfamiliar space. The pullout mattress was also extremely uncomfortable and poor quality, which is important for families relying on all of the advertised sleeping accommodations. Our bedroom also faced a dilapidated/abandoned-looking building—not exactly the view we envisioned when booking a beachfront vacation. Housekeeping & Basic Supplies Were Consistently Overlooked Another recurring frustration was the lack of attention to basic supplies and restocking. We had to specifically request dishwasher detergent and even a dish sponge, as well as additional shampoo and conditioner during our seven-night stay. What made this particularly frustrating was that housekeeping had been in the unit, yet it didn’t appear that anyone was taking note of what had been depleted or needed replenishing. We found ourselves having to identify missing or empty items and request them individually rather than having the condo routinely checked and properly restocked. Again, these may sound like small things. But at this price point, the small things are exactly what distinguish a high-end hospitality experience. Guests shouldn’t have to manage the inventory of basic household and bathroom supplies themselves while on vacation. Noise, Privacy & Other Property Issues We also found the walls to be extremely thin, and privacy was an issue. On one occasion, we were awakened by loud yoga music before 8:00 AM. The elevator was not operational during our stay, which added another significant inconvenience. There was also confusion surrounding the floor of the unit. It had been described to us as being on the third floor, when in reality it is effectively the second floor. Again, none of these things individually would have ruined a vacation. It was the constant accumulation of issues that became so frustrating. The Beach Amenities Were Not What We Expected The beach situation was another major disappointment and something we had previously addressed directly with management. While the location of the beach amenities may have been vaguely referenced during the booking process, we did not feel the actual distance was adequately or clearly communicated. The beach facilities were more than a 26-minute walk away. That is an important distinction for anyone booking a beachfront family vacation—particularly when traveling with three young children, beach bags and everything else that comes along with getting a family to and from the beach. To their credit, management attempted to make this right by comping us cabanas at the beach, and we genuinely appreciated the gesture. Under different circumstances, this would have been an absolutely incredible treat. The cabanas are expensive and certainly something we never would have splurged on ourselves. Unfortunately, we were traveling with three children under the age of 10. A cabana is wonderful if your goal is to sit back and relax. As parents responsible for watching our children in the ocean, that simply wasn’t an option for us. There was absolutely no way to adequately see and supervise them in the ocean from the cabana area. So while we sincerely appreciated the gesture and recognize that management was trying to offer us something of real value, it unfortunately wasn’t an amenity our family could realistically use in the way it was intended. Ultimately, the Experience Did Not Match the Price We understand that things can go wrong during any vacation. A lightbulb can burn out. WiFi can need to be reset. Something can occasionally be overlooked by housekeeping. Our disappointment came from the sheer accumulation of issues over the course of a seven-night stay. From the extremely stressful parking situation and the wall-mounted fixture coming off and leaving a gaping hole, to WiFi and television issues, exposed wires, inconsistent lighting, an uncomfortable pullout mattress, elevator problems, noise, missing basic supplies and repeatedly having to request replenishment of household and bathroom necessities, the experience simply did not feel like the caliber of accommodations we believed we were paying for. We also want to be fair and acknowledge that management did make efforts to address some of our concerns. Chazz in particular was helpful, and the complimentary cabanas were a generous gesture even though they weren’t practical for our family. But ultimately, we weren’t looking for complimentary extras. We wanted the expensive accommodations we booked to live up to what we believed we were booking. We had planned, saved and looked forward to this seven-night family vacation all summer. We had no interest in cutting our trip short—we wanted to enjoy the vacation we had been so excited about. Instead, we spent far too much of an expensive, much-anticipated week navigating problems and requesting things that should have already been addressed. Our advice to future guests—particularly families—is to ask very specific questions before booking. If you drive a large vehicle, ask for detailed information about your exact parking space and access to it. Ask exactly where the beach amenities are in relation to your unit. Confirm elevator accessibility, the actual floor and view of your particular unit, and what services and housekeeping are included during your stay. La Mer may be a very different experience for a couple or a family with older children, and we recognize that other guests may prioritize different things. But for our family with three children under 10, this was unfortunately not the relaxing, top-notch beachfront experience we expected. At this price point, the details matter—and there were simply too many details that were missed.
Location
Too expensive
Wonderful hotel and location. We've had a room with a nice location and found that the atmosphere was so soothing 😌 ☺️ ✨️. The staff were attentive and honestly I think it's a great value for the money paid.
Don’t expect your room to be ready before 4pm and absolutely no area to sit waiting. You can use the pool but very busy and not guaranteed seating. If raining you will be sitting in your car. $7 for a bottle of water at pool and terrible food.
Great experience! Very clean and well-maintained. Friendly staff. Nice location. A little removed from the action, but walkable. We would definitely stay here again!
Nice hotel, great staff. Restaurant can be slow. Breakfast/lunch is good, We had to change rooms and they were kind to accommodate us the next day. Floors 3 and 4 are best , ocean facing is perfect.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the location. Absolutely loved the resort's restaurant. Went there multiple times.
Our bathroom was dirty with urine on the toilet seat as soon as we entered the room. We waited for very long to check in and yet the room was not clean. This is unacceptable.
*** NEVER AGAIN *** FIRST MORNING BATH IN 2inches OF WATER I wouldn’t recommend I made a reservation for four disable people to check in early and we were made to wait until 4 PM exactly to check in The manager was rude. He interrupted our conversation the conversation I was having with the representative and it was getting complicated and he decided to rudely but and explained to him that was rude and he wanted to say because he was a manager it was OK to be rude so and I explained to him he did that andI don’t think from that point they were happy with us. They did send a maintenance guy the first night and that was great and I tipped them 20 bucks I called because the bathroom was nonfunctional. You cannot take a bath and a couple of us take Epsom salt baths for pain! On Saturday afternoon, we left the room approximately three 330. They said they sent someone at 1 PM but we were there until around 3:30 and I can supply the receipts when We dined. And I sent them a message about it, but no one showed up and I got no response. I was ignored until checkout I got no response and then later on the electric goes out and that gets into the mix and a part of the excuse and no one ever addresses the situation they say they have to investigate it, and I sent them the pictures early Friday morning. They were supposed to fix it on Thursday at 1 PM this is their response. On Friday evening after they left me on hold forever as soon as I hung up, I received this email.: Hi Shawn, Good afternoon, I wanted to follow up with you regarding our conversation this morning as you were departing. I did some additional investigation and reviewed the service order that was placed yesterday. Our Maintenance Department was at your condo at approximately 1:00 p.m., and they have documented notes regarding the work that was completed. Based on their notes, the necessary adjustments were made. At this time, no adjustments have been made to the amount reflected on your final receipt. I’m sorry if this wasn’t the outcome you were hoping for. We truly appreciate your understanding and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future. Courtney Barker Front Desk Manager La Mer THIS LETTER FROM THE MANAGER IS STATING THAT THEY FIXED IT ON THURSDAY THE 13TH 2026. THE PICTURES ATTACHED WERE TAKEN AUGUST 14, 2026 ON FRIDAY APPROXIMATELY 4 AM IN THE MORNING YOU DO THE MATH! But like it Was like being in Atlantic City playing the Shell game. We spent most of our time worrying about when they were coming. They never made us feel like we belonged. They didn’t treat us like they were treating other individuals that were in the lobby. They were checking other people in and just had a really good attitude and it just didn’t seem like we were the same Type of guest as the others Or that we deserve the same type of treatment. I’m just glad the paraplegic didn’t come. I mean I wanted them to come, but they had to have foot surgery but I think things would’ve been much more difficult. It was hard enough with an 85 year-old. I just can’t believe they’re saying they fixed it and I have the pictures that I text her 4:30 in the morning when I got up and she’s gonna blatantly lie like that because the only way I could communicate with them was via text. They corresponded very easily until the bathroom situations came up and then mostly all my texts didn’t have responses all of a sudden I think I would have better a better chance at the casino and I can’t believe I’m saying that! I’ve never been to a hotel that has made me feel actually disgusted by their management. From my vast experience traveling around the world since 1996 I remember wonderful memories, and unfortunately, this won’t be one of them. This is one I’ll be trying to forget as I spent my mornings trying to shove towels into a drain hole so we can wash our bodies. Oh, and by the way, there was a dirty cleaning glove, cleaning, scrubbing glove left under our towels. *** AND THEY LOOKED AT ME LIKE I WAS THE FUNKY CHICKEN *** Great view quiet inside, but the people outside will think you’re quite loud (with no working bathroom).
Amazing Stay We had the BEST time at La Mer Beachfront Resort! 🌊☀️ From the beautiful ocean views and relaxing beach days to the gorgeous room, amazing food, and incredible service, everything was absolutely perfect. The staff was so welcoming and attentive, and the whole resort had such a peaceful, upscale atmosphere. We truly enjoyed every minute of our stay and didn’t want to leave! La Mer is definitely a place where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy the beauty of Cape May. We’re already looking forward to coming back! ❤️
My wife and I stayed at La Mer for our wedding anniversary because of the newly renovated upscale rooms, despite the higher price. Unfortunately, on our last day the hotel lost power. No lights, no elevators, no AC, and our room was around 80 degrees. We had to carry our luggage down the stairs in the pouring rain to check out. When I asked the front desk employee, Debbie, how a hotel like this had no generator, she replied, “We have one, but not for your room, and the whole city is out.” Oddly enough, the block across the street had power. I understand outages happen, but for the price and supposed upscale experience, this was extremely disappointing. Not even an I’m sorry, here’s a cup of coffee, nothing…Our anniversary stay ended up feeling like a very expensive Motel 6.
Stay somewhere else! This hotel is extremely overpriced and seriously lacking in all areas! Very poor management, rude and unhelpful front desk staff, lacking hospitality and service in all areas! Choose another hotel!
Modern, great restaurant and bar, beach service, bike rentals
Hard to get seats at pool
Everything! The restaurant is amazing. So clean and the customer service is top notch.
Nothing it was excellent
We stayed for 2 nights/2 rooms booked 2 months in advance, when I booked I asked for adjoining rooms reservations said could not guarantee but will put on same floor. Called 2x to confirm same floor and book cabana. Got there one on 2nd one on 4th, a woman also with her grandchildren same problem. She was even put in 2 different buildings. Asked for manager, spoke to Norberto who said he was the manager, later finding out he is not a manager! He was rude did not help me or the other family. NOT family-friendly at all! The hotel is away from the restaurants and the town shopping. I should have listened to friends and stayed at Congress Hall. It was actually cheaper. As far as side ocean view which I booked and paid for, see photos attached. Does someone have a saw so I could cut down the trees to see the ocean. Don't be scammed ! Terrible customer service, basically didn't care and when you are spending over $1,000 a night they should care!!!
The staff is super friendly and accommodating. We always had parking . The pool was clean and heated . The restaurant is 5 star . Love the morning coffee on the patio . Their gardens are magnificent.
Great staff, reception etc. Friendly, helpful. Huge room..comfortable bed. Regular refrigerator, microwave, toaster and a Keurig. Room cleaned every day, bed made and dishes washed. Only issue was that the floor wasn't washed so we noted dirty soles of our feet walking around barefoot. Quiet location and beach amenities given. Pier One restaurant by the hotel was very good. Have stayed there multiple times.
The service restaurant staff were wonderful. After we switched our room for being very dark facing a wall it was much better. Some of the front desk staff were helpful (not all). They need to give larger sized toiletries for the bathroom. The soap shampoo conditioner wasn’t even enough for one use by one person. Our room was by housekeeping and every morning they woke us talking loudly whistling banging carts. Otherwise the facility was lovely. Food and drinks good and location very nice. Howl was clean.
This is our 4th annual girls trip and it gets better every year. The cleanliness the luxury the staff. Absolutely top tier. The Pier House meals and drinks are beyond compare. We had a direct ocean view room with balcony. You could hear the live music each night the beach and pool attendants were wonderful. Special thanks to Peter for being so great! Everyone from front desk to housekeeping is always so accommodating. I made a complaint to the front desk about guests playing loud music from their balcony and throwing food into the pool. Management took care of the issue immediately. Thank you for extending the pool hours until 8pm. Can i suggest adults only time from 6pm to 8pm with special drinks and appetizers? So sad to go home but we will see you again next year. La Mer is away from the crowd and noise of other hotels and the beach is literally out your front door. There is no better place in Cape May
La Mer Beachfront Resort actually exceeds Canyon Ranch and The Golden Door on all fronts, from amenities to comfort. The impeccably appointed rooms are spacious, the service is extraordinary, and the views are spectacular. The entire property, from the gym to the outdoor patios, is immaculate, and the food is top-notch gourmet. Goodbye, Canyon Ranch. Goodbye, Golden Door. La Mer is my new resort.
La Mer worked perfectly location wise. We were able to rent bikes for an additional daily cost which we rode throughout the town as one of our favorite things to do. The hotel is right across from the beach where you can walk and get a chair, towel, and umbrella. There is also a decent on site gym and music each night for a few hours. However, the room was very overpriced. We paid over $600 a room each night. The bathroom had a unpleasant smell when we arrived which lasted almost the whole visit even after the cleaners came back twice. The front desk mentioned it could have been the pipes. The back door lock did not work. We had a worker enter our room without knocking when my daughter was in the room who saw him and then said that he had the wrong room and he left. The front lobby had no water for guests; even average priced hotels typically have welcome water etc. The vending machine next to the lobby was not working for drinks. There was an accidental cup broken by someone at the pool caring for his wife. Glass went into the pool; staff were notified. We all exited the pool on our own. A Dad by the pool got goggles and attempted to get the glass out. The pool was not shut down; so how did they know they got all of the glass out. We left the pool and didn't go back the rest of the trip. We saw new people come to the pool that were unaware of potential glass at the bottom. No meals included for the over $600 price either. Pool is also small for a "luxury resort." And be carefully pulling out in the front, there is very little room and extra large flower pots are placed between the car and the wall. Great location, but we didn't feel the value for the high nightly cost.
Ample parking, the pool was nice. Restaurant on site. The beautiful lobby.
Some Indian teenager unplugged my camera battery charger at the restaurant. Said he had the thought; that since he wanted to plug in his cellphone, he'll then say He thought someone left the camera battery charger. He then unplugged my families camera battery charger and plugged his phone in. When i asked him / confronted him about it; two older Indian guys said it was essentially out of line that I asked the entitled teenager to not touch things that don't belong to him. The teenager was smirking and smiling during this. There were many tables full of patrons at the restaurant, so not sure the excuses to say he had. The devious thought that the charger must have been forgotten (even though there were more then 20 people at the restaurant). There are multiple outlets for plugging in devices in the restaurant. Maybe make a sign that says please don't touch things that don't belong to you.
The hotel is amazing. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. The restaurant is great. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and updated.
Very clean and modern room. Spacious compared to others in the area. Staff friendly and helpful. Will return this summer !!
It was a great stay for the entire family. The rooms were beautiful. The service was very good and Cape May itself is very special.
Was in a pinch to find a hotel last minute (a month before) for a late wedding invite. First of all, most of the "affordable" Cape May area hotels and Air BB are overpriced trash. Dated old rooms in poor condition that have not been updated since the 80's, beaten up by non-stop tourists/kids. Hard to find an affordable place in the summer season- talking to a few people it is a combination of summer tourists, weddings, Coast Guard graduations every week, and apparently, the only beach people from PA and NJ go to. Saw the room photos for La Mer and they looked to be better, more updated (wood floors, newer furniture, etc.) than the other hotels that still had vacancies. I was not looking for a beach front property, just needed to be close to our venue. Made a reservation over the phone and asked for the lowest price available room. This was around $700 a night. Bit the bullet and took the room based on the photos and reviews. Total garbage. Not the same room with the wood floor you see highlighted on their website. This is the most I have ever paid for a hotel room in over 30 years of hotel stays and I feel completely ripped off. One of the most high priced/low value rooms I have ever had. Micro tubes of soap and shampoo, cheap toilet paper (didn't even get a box of tissue until the second day). NOT EVEN A COMPLIMENTARY BOTTLE OF WATER in the room. $700 a night? I have been treated better at a $160 night hotel. Obviously you are paying to be across the street from the beach with an included beach pass but that's where it ends. The room was a king bed with a pull out couch. It felt like I walked into an Embassy Suites in 1998. Dated colors and mismatched decor. Carpet. LOUD air conditioning unit, glaring red balcony lights you can't turn off that flood the room unless you close the privacy curtain. Bright white LED or CFL bulbs in the fixtures giving off harsh light. LOUD mini-fridge. Dated fiberglass one piece shower/tub combo with a curtain. Horrible low water pressure. The thermostat was actually an old mercury dial manual style- not even a digital thermostat. Obviously La Mer is just ripping profit off the "Beach front" location and NOT putting it into these low end rooms. Total rip-off. Front desk staff was also rude/bothered by us during check-in, not cheerful or welcoming. Now, let me complain about some things I know La Mer has no control over, but really made my stay here the cherry on top: small pool filled with LOUD kids and adults from 8am until 10pm (or whenever it closes) that you can hear up in the rooms. Paper thin walls so you hear every door on the floor slam, every person walking down the hall AND people from NJ who feel it necessary to talk at full NJ volume from 10PM to Midnight with no regard for people trying to sleep. Three different groups, both nights, all some variation of: "Will you cawl me in the mawning? Yeah? You gonna cawl me? Okaay, Yeeeah, just cawl or text me and we can get cawfee. Whaaaaat? Yeeeah, Okaaaaay. HA HA HA HA, Yeah. I knooooowww!". The best part was night #1 (I am NOT making this up) we were woken up at midnight to what sounded like a porn movie being filmed in the hallway. It was so loud I thought someone left their door open or they were actually having $#% in the hallway. I opened the door to discover it was the room across the hall. My wife described it as "performative moaning". Can't make this up. So yeah, $700 a night to feel like I was at a Motel 6. Never again. I have stayed at beachfront hotels in Hawaii, California and all over Florida for less than half the price with more room amenities, perks and better conditions. It is criminal what they charge in Cape May and what people are willing to pay to stay in this area. No idea why, but I guess people are okay with it.
La Mer was exactly what we were looking for! The rooms were airy, clean, spacious, and comfortable. I got such good sleep on their mattresses! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is perfectly situated right across the street from the beach. I would definitely stay here again.
It was our first time staying at La Mer. We were there for our anniversary. You won't find a more accommodating group of people then at La Mer. The entire staff from the people working at the pool to the guys taking care of the property to the staff on the beach to the bartenders to everyone at the front desk, especially Lisa , were all so friendly and professional. The room and the property were immaculate and the view from our room was spectacular. Its not hard to have a great view and great time in Cape May but its the crew that will keep you coming back to La Mer!
Beautiful property
Beautifully maintained hotel with great beach access and a nice pool. The staff are very friendly and attentive especially the dining staff and the beach staff who will set up chairs and umbrellas on the beach for you. There is a very good restaurant which will serve you on the beach and poolside. Overall a great experience with the exception of the noise from early morning garbage collection and food deliveries as we were located over the service entrance to the restaurant.
$1,000 a night should buy an experience — not a series of disappointments. One thing upfront: the staff were gracious, attentive, and genuinely trying their best. None of what follows is on them. These are failures of property executives looking at profit vs experience. The room: Advertised as "ocean view" at over $1,000/night. We received the last room on a side street wing, with a theoretical glimpse of water somewhere behind a dense wall of bushes. That's not an ocean view. That's false advertising. And sleep? Nearly impossible the air conditioning unit sounded like a diesel generator firing up every time it cycled on. Each kick-in jolted us awake through the night. A $1,000/night room should not have equipment that belongs in a construction site. I saw more folks complaining about AC in the lobby. The restaurant: A wedding had taken over the better half of the property, the modern dining space, the outdoor terrace, the oceanfront areas. Paying hotel guests were confined to a dark, dated back room for every single meal. No warning, no compensation, no explanation beyond a shrug. The pool: Disgracefully overcrowded, whether from wedding overflow or just poor capacity management, and completely unusable. Bike rentals: A coastal hotel at this price point should have bikes on property. Instead, there's a third-party arrangement with an off-site vendor requiring a phone call and a 30-minute digital setup process just to maybe rent a bike. Inexcusable. The layout: To get from the lobby to the pool, restaurant, or beach, guests must walk through the parking lot. A fundamental design flaw that undermines any sense of a cohesive, premium experience. The location is beautiful and the staff genuinely care. But at $1,000+ a night, guests deserve what's advertised, uninterrupted sleep, access to what they're paying for, and a property that functions as a unified whole. This fell short on every count.
First time going to Cape May and we had a great time. Hotel was very clean and modern. We had an ocean front king room and it was perfect. It overlooked the pool and had the best view of the ocean and cabanas. Room was a great size, with a small kitchenette, which came in handy. Staff was very attentive, our coffee machine broke and new one was sent right away. We loved the location because it gave a more private feel. It’s not in the mix of all the hotels, but still walking distance to everything. The onsite restaurant The Pier House has amazing food and staff. If you love deviled eggs, theirs are the best. It was my husband’s birthday, we had balloons delivered. We also ordered some extras for the room The staff did a great job setting everything up. Parking is great, so many spots and most are under the hotel. So car stays cool on hot days.
Awesome breakfast and location
We spent 3 full days at La Mer. Love the location, the restaurant and bar (incl: happy hour). Hotel is run well with a friendly staff. The pool is also a lovely private spot to relax. The rooms are clean and comfortable. My only major complaint is with the furniture: patios have two wicker type chairs which are quite uncomfortable. Inside the room there’s a table and two totally uncomfortable chairs (too narrow and will only fit your butt if you’re less than 150#). The room is a good size and has a totally empty corner that screams for a big comfortable lounge chair but unfortunately there isn’t one there.. When you’re hanging out in the room your only shot at being comfortable is to lay on the bed. If they fix the furniture and go for comfort they get 5 stars.
I liked the condo. It was quiet the 1st night. Clean. Good amount of space. Good location.
Jack hammers at 8am. No screen for balcony. Mosquitoes. Spotty wifi. Spin class with loud music ar 8am. Disposable coffee cups would have been nice too.
Hotel parties throughout the entire night, staff was not concerned at all, everything we asked for was a hard NO without even trying to make things work…
Clean and up to date
Nothing
Great place clean an accommodating
Terrible staff, disgusting moldy room, old squeaking bed: A very rude desk manager greeted us Friday around 10pm saying the Expedia name was not accurate and we have to leave. Expedia explained the reservation was correct but she wouldn't honor it, so Expedia had to cancel it and desk manager had me book a different room directly on my card — $60 more expensive, queen beds instead of the reserved king bed. The room had tons of mold in the bathroom, both my girlfriend and I got sick the following day. Took multiple photos of the mold. Will certainly be reporting to the NJ Department of Health — curious if they'll keep their "AAA Cleanliness Award" after that.
The food is amazing, the staff is amazing, and the rooms are fantastic.
The staff was great. When we arrived we ended up in a wrong elevator and we had a hard time finding our room on the other side of the building. We asked a housekeeping staff for direction and she pleasantly walked us to our room instead of just telling us where to go. It was nice to see that excellent customer service. Thank you. The restaurant is also very nice with good food.
Maybe a more visible sign on the elevators with room numbers.
Lovely property with a great, quiet location that is still close to everything.
AC/Heat unit is loud. We turned it off since the weather was cool enough. Very spotty cell phone service in hotel room. I couldn’t make a call out or receive one. Front desk said that happens. Receiver on hotel phone didn’t work. We wanted to watch Philadelphia sports, could only watch the one on national channel. Rooms were clean. Restaurant was only open on the weekend off season.
Booked an ocean view "penthouse" for my mom's 80th. More like a small apartment. Don't let the pictures fool you. Elevator was broken and they told me the day of. This was a problem for my mother whose mobility is compromised. We tried to move to 2 ocean view rooms in the regular hotel, but found out their listed "ocean view" rooms are actually partial ocean view. Decided to stay with option 1 per mom's request. Only 1 parking space. There were 3 cars and no other parking was available that was not 3 hour meters. The rental space is directly over a workout studio that started classes both days very early (6 am and 7 am). I told the hotel about the classes and they said the owner of the studio "had been warned" about this and they would speak to her before day 2. I asked the staff to let me know the outcome of their chat with the studio owner but they did not call me back. The classes the next day started as scheduled. Oh, and there was full construction on the street below so you had to look over it to see the view. The hotel staff allegedly did not know this. While I would not recommend this "penthouse" to anyone, I did think the staff was friendly. They seemed to want to be helpful in every situation even if the follow through did not create change.
friendly staff room size excellent and comfortable
to. have the restaurant open during our stay
Nice place 👌 clean nice view. Although the cops out there ain't play. Drive the speed limit.
Terrible Customer Service. State of emergency blizzard and they would not accommodate a reschedule, had to forfeit paying for the room with no stay. Very rude and unprofessional after they had their own issue of losing power and should have been more understanding during the storm. My family and friends will not be staying there anymore.
Yes location is great. The atmosphere was perfect. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean at all the amenities.
Excellent accommodations! We enjoyed our stay and thank you for upgrading us to an ocean view! Although it was the coldest weekend of the winter it was very pleasant and relaxing!
Exceptional staff on a beautiful property. The room was very clean and modern. The entire property including the parking garage and hallways were immaculate. The location is directly across from the ocean.
Beautiful place
Restaurant was great food very nice.
Coffee pot in our room leaked all over the counter. Every time you tried to use it ventilation in bathroom was terrible. Every shower we took there was rust colored water dripping from the ceiling vent. Also no designated smoking areas.
It was nice
$400 a night they should have at least some complementary coffee besides the horrible coffee in the room
Great location near the beach!! Loved the chairs and umbrellas at the beach!! Front desk staff was very nice and helpful!! Quiet hotel.
The room was advertised as having a partial beach view. There was no beach view from the 2nd floor. Hotel is very pricey, especially for lack of a view and a non-renovated room in September. Housekeeping was not generous with towel replenishment.
Delicious meals, great location.
Friendly. Clean place. Location was great.
Comfortable Bed, clean, good storage
Small thing, but the heat unit was loud when it kicked on.
Absolutely magical! We had the best time. Room was gorgeous, bed comfortable and the staff so friendly! The restaurant was exceptional! We ate every meal there. Sandra was fantastic and made us feel like family! We'll be back! Thank you.
The Property is beachfront. We stayed a weekend in January and it was lovely. Staff are professional and helpful. The rooms are very clean and modern with wooden/laminated floors and windows/sliding glass doors across the width of the room. Also large balconies. Very pleased with our stay!
I will not be returning to this resort - nor will the seven families that come every summer for a week. Yesterday, we traveled here after a hazardous ice storm in North Jersey - conditions were not good - it took us five hours (typically 2.5 hrs) and a car accident because I was pressured into coming to avoid losing my $432.00 for a one-night stay. I called to ask if we could reschedule our night to another date, but we were refused. Told I needed to cancel 14 days in advance. Next time, I will try to predict the weather better. Also, told that since I booked the room on Booking.com, it wasn't their reservation. Well, I stayed at their resort. I’m sure they got paid for the room. I have been coming here for several years and always enjoyed my stay. I wasn't asking for a refund, just another date to travel in safer conditions. I have never written a review before. I am now on every social media outlet that I can to warn others that, should they ever have an emergency, this resort will not care. There are so many other places to stay in Cape May. This is no longer one that I would recommend.
It's just a lovely property and we are always made to feel welcome. Walking distance to may shops and restaurants. We had a view of the ocean that afforded us a lovely sunrise. Staff is friendly and we have never had a maintenance issue during any of our stays. We'll be back hopefully soon!
I booked a stay at La Mer in Cape May at a Black Friday promotional rate for a special celebratory weekend and received a confirmation email and confirmation number. Weeks later, I was notified that my reservation had been canceled. When I called to figure out what happened, I was told I would need to rebook at full price, $500+ more than the confirmed rate. There was no follow-up email or proper attempt to contact me before canceling. I spoke with the manager, Jackie, and then the head manager, Nicole. Both were condescending and dismissive, despite the confirmed reservation and the fact that I had already arranged travel and childcare. Suddenly canceling a confirmed reservation weeks later (and refusing to honor the advertised promotional rate) feels misleading and untrustworthy. This was an incredibly frustrating experience, and I would not recommend booking here.
check in
mattress very bad ,bathroom dated
Sparkling clean hotel right across from the ocean.... Beautiful renovated room. Will absolutely stay here again when in Cape May!
Check in was a breeze! Room was ready well before 4 pm. The hotel staff, specially Jason during check in was helpful and informative. Upon check out, Samier was helpful when I asked to depart early- I simply told him I’d leave the hotel keys in the room and he said perfect- and I went ahead with my day. My stay was brief but well worth it. The rooms are a little dated- the balcony has what looked like a kiddie gate separating all the other rooms. But who really sits out in Dec Thankfully the rooms have kitchenette’s and a nice size fridge. We awoke to Cape May’s first snow fall in idk how long! It was a beautiful day! Wawa and other convenient places are nearby in driving distance. Highly recommend the La Mer beach resort
So easy to get to! So warm and inviting! The staff was awesome! The room was clean and cozy! The room was more than I expected!
Location can’t be beat! Atmosphere of the hotel very soothing. Lobby decorated beautiful for the season. Rooms beautiful and well appointed. Pricey, but worth it. Very clean! No noise - priceless. Was not a fan of the coffee in the room. I’m old school - like to brew my own or go down to the lobby for fresh. Wish the restaurant/bar were open. Wish coffee and lemon/citrus water jug was in the lobby. If marketed as a resort, should have these things. If spa, not open - coupon for spa down the street.
The room was beautiful, spacious and incredibly comfortable. The staff was friendly, courteous and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The on site restaurant was also very nice and added to the overall experience. Easy access to the beach - even for a fall walk on the sand. I truly have nothing to complain about and am already looking forward to staying here again.
Everyone is friendly. The restaurant’s food and service were excellent. The facility was well maintained. We had a terrific view of the beach.
We were there in November and most of the site seeing is a long walk.
I celebrated my birthday Nov 13, with a nice dinner at La Mer. Jenni our server was amazing and made my birthday very special. The food was tasty and well presented. Did not see many staff members around so that interaction with staff was minimal. Did not know who was my housekeeper.
I was there this past weekend for my son’s graduation from the USCG. The location is convenient and the front desk was helpful and friendly upon check in on Thursday afternoon. I chose to stay in a room that was not yet renovated because it was cheaper because I did not care as long as it was clean. However, I do expect the toilet in the bathroom to work even though it’s not a renovated room. The toilet was broken and would only flush occasionally and was on the brink of overflowing. When I called down to the front desk, I spoke to a man who said they’d send someone up and after waiting three hours in our room, no one showed. We wanted to go to dinner so I went down to the front desk personally and told another clerk and she apologized and said she’d send someone up but I told her not to bother because by this time we were leaving for the evening and I didn’t want anyone in our room while we weren’t there. The location of our room was extremely noisy . People were screaming in the halls at 5:45 a.m. and had no self awareness or respect for the rooms around them. This went on for hours in the early morning. They were talking loudly on their patio, in their room and the hall. I understand the hotel can’t control their guests but just beware the walls in this place are paper thin and you can hear everything in the rooms next to you and above you. We didn’t eat at the on site restaurant but we did have drinks at the bar and the bartender was very friendly but drinks are pricey.
The hotel was right across from the beach, which we loved. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean and inviting. Overall, I think it was a fantastic experience!
The view was of the side of another hotel but it was cold out so it didn't really matter for one night.
Our stay was very good. The location can't be beat and the cleanliness of the room is good. It was quite loud from a workout class on Sunday but we are up and ready to go. The atmosphere was very nice. The room service was very good as well. We will be back!
Great location. Outstanding restaurant.
Bed was not great and the sheets were old and rough.
Room was clean, nice and big. Bathroom was very nice. We received 20% off room for special that was emailed to us. We came for our anniversary which we try to do every October. Hotel is in a quiet area of Cape May. Only down fall is too far to walk to center of town. We rented bikes which is a nice amenity of the hotel.
The resort is very clean. Rooms are spacious, consider choosing one with a balcony. The location provides a nice view of the ocean, not located in a very busy part of Cape May. There is an on-site restaurant, A rather small menu, but food is very good.
I have stayed at La Mer several times. For the most part, I am always happy with my stay. The rooms are on the smaller side for the price you are paying. However, the location is wonderful. Although, if you want to be close to town, this is not the resort for you. I do think that they are in need of new bedding. They are very uncomfortable. I also think bottled water would be nice in room and replenished each day. They have onsite bike rentals, which make it very convenient. I do wish they had more outside seating with firepits or something.
The room I asked for was not reserved nor explained correctly on the phone. We were supposedly "upgraded" to room #201. Walked into a mildew smelly room. I had to blast the A/C at 68 degrees to make sure the room didn't feel stuffy and mildewy. The A/C never turned off, which shows bad ventilation. Everything looked worn out in the room. The sheets are scratchy, highly recommend they up grade. The internet only works during certain hours during the day and you had to be sitting by the sliding glass doors or go to the lobby. Dead spots in the room to use cellular service as well. Super inconvenient! When I asked about pool hours 3 days prior to my visit I was told it would still be open. When we arrived we were told pool closed the week before, which added to the disappoint to our stay. No apologies, just oh well. Had our first night the hotels restaurant and had a nat fly into one of our newly ordered wine glass orders. Since we had to wait for the server to come back it was the end of our meal. She offered a new glass and we said no because we're done and ready to go. STILL CHARGED US!!! The wine was never drunk from the glass. Asked for it to be taken off our bill and were told no because "we offered you another glass to replace it". AGAIN, no apologies just more disappoints. This place gives the USCG families for graduating cadets the old rooms for the small discount. At least Motel 6 charges accordingly. Here they just over charge for a worn out look from the parking lot to the hall ways to the bedrooms. We couldn't cancel our reservation with being charged for the whole stay. Do yourself a favor and stay at one on the cute B&B or nicer hotels closer to Perry Street. If you are a family or friends attending a graduation for the USCG, here's an FYI- everyplace on the island is no further than 10 mins from the base. This place sells you on being the closest and nicer hotels, don't fall for the bait.
Proximity to beach and quieter end of beach Ave Very nice pool area and grounds. convenient parking, friendly staff
Music from wedding was a bit loud I think if wedding receptions are done in evening the doors to event area need to be kept shut to decrease sound to other quests
La Mer refused to reschedule our one-night trip in Oct 2025 despite an ongoing state of emergency in the area due to a nor’easter. Customer service was rude and unhelpful. We called a few days ahead of the storm to allow for rebooking. Expedia agent also tried to work with them, but they really wanted those $200 so their answer was that we should just drive there during the state of emergency and hope that the nor’easter was a false alarm. We happened to be staying at La Mer in the fall of 2023 when there was a storm and the entire hotel and restaurant lost power for hours. They claimed that it never happens for the hotel to lose power until I told them we were there when it did happen a couple of years ago. We were loyal customers to La Mer for years and recommended it to lots of people, but after this experience in Oct 2025 we are not going to return there. What kind of people insist that we get on the road to drive there in the middle of a storm and a state of emergency situation?! I guess business isn’t going great for them if they’re pushing so hard to keep our $200 deposit. I can see why they might not have a lot of customers these days. Oh well. We’re not risking our safety on the road for this. Sad to be witness to such greed and lack of consideration.
Short but very nice
Great location, nice size room, comfortable beds. Enjoyed watching sunrise over the ocean and listening to the wave at night.
The location was ideal , restaurant was good and priced reasonably.
Just like all other hotels in Cape May, it’s overpriced but then again if I don’t pay it, someone else will. So they won’t lower prices.
Beautiful property looking at the ocean. Rooms were quiet & clean. Staff were excellent. A real treat to stay at La Mer.
Our room had a direct unobstructed view of the ocean. Just lovely.
Place was clean, staff were certainly friendly and helpful, however this is not a room with a view of the beach or ocean. We booked the room because it said a partial view, and I think that was overstated. You could barely see a very small bit of the ocean between the bushes on the sand dune.
It was beautiful and clean and loved the pumpkins definitely would come back again
Direct view of ocean. Slept with sliding door open and could hear the ocean. Room was spacious, clean and contemporary.
Staff was great they were very helpful the room was clean and lots off info. Very nice area.
Lovely Indian summer days at LaMer! Sat by the pool, walked the beach and adorned our balcony snd open slider all thru the night hearing the waves crash x
