Spacious very well lit room, comfy bed. Quite neighborhood with plenty of parking on site. Just a 10 minutes walk from the downtown.

Confusion of breakfast (getting something the night before, as leaving before breakfast the next day), and the cake I got was really really dry. Deff not worth the $13 I paid

Everything was lovely. We had a few good meals at the bistro and used the spa services one day. The rooms were large and comfortable. Location good.

The bed was comfortable. The bathtub was long and deep. The room was clean.

The service was ridiculously slow in the restaurant. Other diners told me the same. The menu was not accurate; for instance, it didn't mention that an egg sandwich included mayonnaise. (I'd never, ever heard of mayonnaise on an egg sandwich. When I requested "Please, no butter," I never expected there'd be mayonnaise, instead, or else I would have also requested no mayonnaise.) Both at dinner and breakfast, the staff made a point of kicking us out at exactly closing time instead of allowing us to relax and enjoy the last bites of our food or the last sips of our coffee or juice. On the phone, I was told I could leave my luggage at the desk before check-in time since I was due to arrive early. I was told there would always be someone at the desk. I accepted this, only to find no one at the desk when I went to pick up my luggage, so the luggage was unguarded (and the entrance to the hotel is unlocked). When she returned to the desk, the attendant told me she'd only briefly gone to the bathroom. I'd never, ever expect someone not to go to the bathroom when nature calls, but it meant that what I'd been told on the phone wasn't true. I feel that, at minimum, another attendant should have been there to make sure the luggage was safe, or there should be a locked luggage area. In no way should information given over the phone be untrue.

Staff at front desk were lovely snd helpful. Room was large and comfortable.

A bit of a longish walk to downtown and especially back after walking quite a lot during the day.

We like fresh air, but the window did not open. Since our door opened to the outside we had to prop it open for air flow. It wo rked well, but we would have preferred a window that opened.

The beds were very uncomfortable. The sheets would not stay on the mattress we were sleeping on the mattress mostly also took a $250 damage deposit so we’re just waiting to get that back.

The coffee maker wasn’t cleaned (someone left their coffee bag in. Not enough toiletries for 2 people, not enough coffee for 2 people. The toilet kept on running constantly as well. The light switches were installed incorrectly (pushing down was turning on). The staff were helpful and responded when I called and brought up toiletries.

amazing medieval building with thick stone walls, ideal location during a heatwave. the rooftop terrace was great for a late dinner and there was view to the sea and to two different churches.

Loved the room and how it was secluded.

The hotel has gone through various phases of use. Currently it has a whole program of spa services. Wish we had known more about that before booking.

The Bistro was very poor, pleasant staff, food,so,so. Dinner was appalling,the Cod was over cooked as was the rest of the meal! The staff were very pleasant and helpful and agreed with our negative comments on the first so called room we had before we insisted on being relocated. The room in the Hotel was comfortable, excellent bed. Quiet and clean.

Here is the rub!!We arrived and were told we would be placed in a room outside the main hotel, this was like a small ,unkempt motel! The steps and platform were not in good shape, bery slippery because it had rained. The room: 1. Curtains,the rail extended out to the door frame!, poor fit,no blackouts.They barely covered the window! 2. Shower, unsafe,no bath mat ,very slippery and cramped!! Shower head, not adjustable. 3. No glasses in bathroom,tissue box ,almost empty. 4. Only 4 hangers in the closet 5.Sleazy ,cheap picture over the bed…. 6. No mats This was a Motel Add-On,not a Hotel! Deceptive advertising! We have never heard of or come across of any Hotel which adds an outside structure so as to have a few more rooms available! Really….. After this first night we informed the staff that we would be checking out if we were not moved into THE Hotel proper. Which they did and this was a significant improvement. We would like a full refund for the night spent in the motel! Under these circumstances we would not recommend this place unless the Motel part was disclosed in their advertising or torn down!

Front desk staff were excellent, polite, friendly and helpful. Bed was very comfortable and we liked the overall quirkiness of the hotel.

Housekeeping was a bit random. Breakfast, served in the Spa Bistro, was unpredictable. Small menu choice with many items often unavailable, tables not cleared and serving staff lacked training. Wifi very hit or miss.

We rented two rooms. Both the room with two queens and the room with king were quite spacious, something rarely found when renting standard hotel rooms. Rooms had a wardrobe, desk, minimal kitchen area and lots of space for sitting. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. The king bed was firm, although the queens were a bit too soft for us. View is typical city view, of nearby buildings and associated vegetation.

Associated dining room served food that was mediocre at best. The part of St. John's we were in had lots of pubs you could walk to, but no kids were allowed after 8:30. Because of our arrival (flight times), we were unable to find anywhere nearby to eat with children so we ate at the Monastery Hotel dining. I had a personal pizza that was made of a prepackaged dough, with basic tomato sauce and shredded cheese - it tasted as you'd expect.

Es gab Spuren der letzten Gäste, es wurden jeden Tag zwar Papierkorb geleert und Handtücher gewechselt (aus unserer Sicht überflüssig), allerdings kein Toilettenpapier ersetzt. Das Bistro war völlig unorganisiert. Es gab gerade mal 4 Frühstücksangebote und dennoch war an jedem unserer 3 Frühstücke etwas nicht verfügbar. Der Höhepunkt war, dass es an einem Morgen keine Marmelade gab.

Wonderful staff. Friendly and engaging. Close to everything in town. Breakfast was provided and amazing. Beds comfortable. Place was very quiet. A lovely large room to read, play board games, watch TV was available to guests. Loved the unique, historic building

The Bistro staff were very good, as was the food. They were able to cater to my gluten-free requests. I did not try the spa services because I cut my stay from 8 nights to 4, because the hotel suite and services were so inadequate and uncomfortable.

I reserved a Deluxe King Suite for 8 nights, supposedly their “favourite room”, with a patio/deck (not so, only the entrance boardwalk). There was no chest of drawers, no comfortable chair, no foot stool, no coffee table, no side table, no counter space of any kind, no bathrobe; no place to set a suitcase except on the luggage rack (not large enough for my suitcase), or on the bed, which was also the only place to put bathroom items (toiletries bag, hair brush) and other personal items. The kitchen was poorly supplied. Housekeeping occurred only when I, and other guests, asked. This was an ‘ugly’ room at a cost of approximately $400 per night. I cut my trip to St. John’s in half because of the lack of comfort and the stress caused by this hotel.

Booked this hotel because the online information looked quite good. Check in was friendly and efficient. The room itself was quite nice with a fireplace and jacuzzi spa. Good toiletries. Good storage for clothes. However the bed mattress was quite inadequate. My wife and I would meet in the middle as it sagged quite badly in the middle section. A new mattress would be a must. The only other issue was the wifi. We stayed a week from Sunday to the following Monday. On Tuesday I made my first complaint about the extremely weak to non existent signal. I also brought it to the front desk’s attention on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They kept saying they were working on it and it should be resolved quickly. I’m in my room on the Sunday before we leave tomorrow and guess what…still poor to no signal. I have been using my cell phone as a hot spot all week (accumulating a hefty data bill I’m sure) except when I sat in the lobby for an half hour where there was enough signal to download a show I wanted to watch. I would never stay here again based on the lack of wifi and the feeble attempt to address the problem. Prince at the front desk tried to assist, he kept saying maintenance was on it, but that never came to pass. Oh and one other issue, we were told the rooms were made up every second day. There were two 3 day spans in our eight days there so they did not follow through on their every two day claim. When you are paying almost $400 per night for a room, I do not think any of these shortcomings are acceptable. I hope they get their act together because this place has the potential to be a wonderful place to stay.

Our room was lovely. I really like antique furniture and the room was beautiful. The breakfast was great and we were able to pick our own with a menu. Our first nights in St. John's was spent in their sister hotel Leaside Manor which was great. This group of hotels Leaside Properties (sorry don't know the correct name) is super. You will not go wrong booking one of them.

There was no "clean my room" doorknob card and the default seemed to be that the room was not cleaned unless I requested at reception. The bed was very uncomfortable due to slippery, poor-quality, ill-fitting sheets. There was no anti-slip bathmat in the bath/shower. A kettle would have been nice. Teabags were provided but no way to make tea as no kettle - only a coffee maker. A safe for valuables would have been nice - I had to lug my laptop around everywhere with me for security. The bistro was very nice but items on the (modest) menu were often not available.

Not what we were expecting. We'd booked a king suite in what we thought would be a lovely spa hotel. The spa is in a separate building that may have been the original hotel. The main hotel is a nondescript building. Our 'suite' was in a separate building essentially in the carpark. When we opened the door we were met with an over whelming smell of air freshener. We had to unplug them and put them outside. The room only had venetian blinds so we were bothered by car headlights coming in and out of the carpark. It wasn't a peaceful night. Depending on how mobile you are it's a fair walk into town.

Horrific staff communication. Refused my request for last minute cancellation which was reasonable. However, upon check in the staff demanded a security deposit from the guest after being advised my daughter would be the only person occupying the room, despite the room being paid for and having my credit card number and changing the name on the booking. Had she not had means of payment I suspect they would have left her without a room for the night. Just absolute garbage adherence to some idiotic policy with staff who couldn't seem to figure out they had consent to bill my card as they would have if I hadnt even kept the booking. Use some common sense people please.

The area was nice, it was approximately 20 to 25 minutes walking to town. One of us enjoyed the bed, which was soft, and the other preferred it more firm.

The room was more suited to couples and not sisters travelling but that is understandable. Housekeeping did not show up until I asked for them and this was after 6 pm the first night. They never showed up the next two days. I asked front desk and was advised that the cleaning staff only started at 7 pm that evening and it was now 8 pm. As we were already in for the evening it did not make sense to have them come at this late hour. The linen could have been nicer especially since they believe themselves to be a top notch place. The room was very hot. I contacted staff and asked them to turn it off. They came to the room but it was never turned off and I had to put the air conditioning on and it was awful. You could not open a window. Staff was hit and miss. My sister ordered a salad in the Bistro and she advised that it was very chaotic. Also front desk staff some were nice but mostly not so great. Got some recommendations from one but mostly nothing from others.

I’ve stayed multiple times for two-three nights at a time. Each time, my room hasn’t been freshened up each day. Housekeeping didn’t come in and make my bed, change towels, etc. I’ve asked about this before, and they’re supposed to.

Love the hotel. Staff are wonderful, kind and accommodating. The room was very clean. The bathroom was spacious and had every minor detail attended to. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud! The feature of the room, the jacuzzi tub, we spent much of our time in and was comfortable, relaxing and a much needed reprieve to a busy and stressful week.
