Location was excellent. Staff very friendly. Food good value for money.

Room small but fortunately we did not spend much time in it.

Great value for money , pool table darts board and a good range of beers made a massive difference from the chain hotels we stay in for work.

For some reason, one of the rooms I booked didn't have breakfast included, so I had to fork out an extra £9 for it. The breakfast was pretty skinny for the money. I wasn't impressed. It included a single mushroom and a somewhat tasteless piece of black pudding.

The room was tired and included peeling wallpaper and a general poor decoration level. But the worst problem was the air conditioning unit on the outside wall of the building. My colleague had an even worse experience because he was unfortunate enough to have it directly by the side of his room. It was a huge unit that continually kept going on and off until late into the night and started pretty much around dawn, making it very difficult to get to sleep.

The hotel is situated in a location that was really helpful

The room was situated at the rear of the building and a pretty long walk from reception and was noisy, located directly above an aircon unit or something? The shower was very basic and i was almost scolded. lucky for me i tested the water temperature before stepping into the bath!

Very nice location, price of accommodation is more than excellent and affordable, prices of food and food itself at The Pub are also great and affordable. Room has more than enough place for 2 person (for which we booked) with full photo gear and all the things person needs for a 3 week UK travel. Bathroom is also very big. All in all, we had very pleasant stay at the Old Grey Mare!

The corridor to the rooms is long and kind of maze-like, which is fine for me but wouldn't be ideal for anyone with limited mobility.

Very close to the University so it was ideal for conference accomodation. Rooms were clean and tidy, and provided a fan and ample towels. Having the pub downstairs was very convenient for dinner.

It was very hot so I appreciated the inclusion of a fan in the room. The room was clean, if tired looking, but had everything I needed and good access for plug sockets etc. The staff were very lovely throughout my stay, very sociable without being intrusive, and the bar itself is a nice environment to be in. I appreciated the inclusion of extra pillows, and there was decent storage for a fairly small space. The environment also felt very safe for a solo traveller.

The rooms are looking very tired and in need of repair. The radiator cover was falling off and I caught my leg on it a few times. There are lots of marks on the walls and chips on the bath. Everything was clean but the rooms could do with a refresh. Breakfast was nice, but I think more options on the continental breakfast would be good. The number of steps to the room was not ideal but I know that's unavoidable and was not a problem.

Breakfast was delicious as I had a full English , egg ,bacon, beans, mushroom, hash brown and toast. The room I stayed in was comfortable and clean and the mattress was very comfortable , best night`s sleep I`ve had in ages.

I don`t remember anything I did`nt like apart from there is a lot of stairs but the staff are willing to help with your luggage if you ask .

The location was very close to the university.

My room was room 6 just under the window were 3 fans which where going all night and kept us awake all night. There was an awful carpet which went on corridors and up and down steps to get to the room. The wall behind my headboard was sticky

My room was very quiet, clean and had a fan (hottest day ever!) All the facilities were as I'd hoped. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great too. Friendly staff

Being above a pub, the decor was a little bit tired and scruffy in places but that didn't really bother me as I was only staying for one night.

We stayed for one night to visit the university. It was perfect for that purpose. Although the room was very tired, it was spotlessly clean and comfortable. The food was great too but the staff here are all lovely.

dinner was lush if i wasnt full i would have had seconds and the room yes it was ok and i was told i would be going into a room so i didnt suffer with the noise on the night and it was great staff were brilliant nothing was any trouble

Rooms were really hot. Windows opened a small amount so struggled sleep wise. Sadly the quality of breakfast was not as good as previous years. I also asked for white and told - run out. Only a few guests were staying at the time. Temperature outside was hot and we were provided with a fan but would have been good to get more fresh air in room.

The room was great very comfortable and clean. I really enjoyed my breakfast and dinner. The meals are well cooked and there is plenty on the plate and the deserts are great too. The staff are always helpful and friendly .

Handige locatie voor wie de universiteit wil bezoeken. Pub beneden is gezellig en heeft uitgebreide kaart. Je hebt er geen geluidsoverlast van.

Het continental breakfast was erg karig, alleen zoet beleg in kuipjes, alleen sneetjes bruin en wit brood om te roosteren. Er zouden pastries zijn, maar behalve een oud croissantje op de eerste dag hebben we geen pastries meer gezien. Vervelender was dat serviesgoed en bestek niet schoon waren. De badkamer was schoon, maar aan een opknapbeurt toe (lekkende kraan, gammele toiletbril).

The location was good for me

Room 1 had a lot of mechanical noise outside all night. The bathroom smelled and the basin didn't drain properly. All the electric sockets and TV did not work so I could not charge my phone. There were no supplies of coffee and milk when I arrived. When I drew the curtains he pole fell in two and crashed down on me. I had walk a long way to the room carrying my bags through many fire doors and up and down steps. Neither restful nor relaxing.

Needs a face lift and a lift put in. How many stairs !!!!

Worn out feel

at first few days it was ok, but given that i dont eat pork it started to get boring after a while to eat the same thing every day, thank god am not much of an eater and am an easy person when it comes to food! everything else was great.

Quiz night much to loud furniture and carpets a bit scruffy.

Room was dirty, damp, wallpaper coming off and threadbare carpets. Extremely dated.

We stayed whilst my son recovered from an operation at the local hospital. The staff were amazing. They went out of their way to help us during our stay, and the housekeeping team was fantastic leaving clean towels, tea and coffee by the door so not to disturb us. I would highly recomend staying here. Also the food was great, priced reasonably and again the bar staff went above and beyond

Room itself was pleasant and comfortable. Hotel good location for my event. Good evening meals. Good price.

Only serious drawback was the number of steps and corridors I had to drag my heavy luggage along to and from my room - a member of staff helped me with this on my arrival; but this wasn't possible on my trips to and from my event, or on my departure, and frankly was off-putting.

It was well situated for a family event we had travelled to Hull to attend. Good menus - we had a light meal before heading to our family event then breakfast the following morning. We’d definitely stay again.

Minor niggles - there was no fruit or yoghurt at breakfast as advertised, but the cooked breakfast was excellent, and the top of the hot tap in that basin in our bathroom (room 10) was missing.

Very enjoyable stay at this property the room was clean the staff were freindly and very helpful only stayed one night as we were going to a gig in cottingham the food was really nice well cooked and well presented would definitely stay here again the bed was exceptionly comfortable had a really good nights sleep

The room was a good size & it was quiet. There was somewhere to hang clothes. The beds were comfortable. The shower was decent.

It was a bit of a trek to our room with cases but it was quiet so it was worth it. There were coffee bags but nothing in decaff & I can't have caffeine.

Great choice at breakfast cooked to order so hot and yum. The walk to the room was a long one and seemed to go on forever but worth it. It was exactly as it stated on the information and in the perfect position for the reason of travel. Great staff friendly and VERY helpful

The breakfast was lovely and done to my liking.There was nicely cooked 2 rashers of bacon, a sausage, an egg, beans, mushrooms, hash browns and a grilled tomato and two pieces of toast. I also had a pot of tea with milk and an apple juice with ice. I then decided to have a latte which was just as nice as all the rest. My room was a good size with a wardrobe, set of draws with kettle, tea, coffee,sugar and milk provided and two cups with teaspoons. The room was comfortable with en suite so I had a nice stay. Dinner was in the bar via a menu that had a range of chose at reasonable prices.

The only thing I can think of was a small problem with the hot water tap which was going to be sorted as soon as possible. Other then that I had a lovely stay .

It's a pub with rooms. Rooms are slightly tired & definitely budget, but that's fine cos so is the price. The breakfast was ok, but maybe a bit overpriced compared to similar alternatives.
