It looked lovely from the outside but shabby & rather ran down on the inside. We checked in asked if we could book a table for dinner as it wasn’t busy to be told there were no tables available so had to find somewhere else to dine, disappointed to be honest after a long day horse racing at Goodwood, such a shame as the venue could be lovely
Shabby
Nothing. The worst hotel experience of my life.
35 degrees, no air con, just a small fan that did nothing. There were approximately 20/30 max people staying at the hotel. Staff took room numbers for food then couldnt remember who ordered what rather than calling the room number. One had a panic attack when I asked to order a beer like they had never served a pint despite working behind the bar. Every time you ordered it took 30 minutes to get a drink with no queue. Midway through one order the guy walked off to do something else rather than finish my order of 3 drinks. They were unhelpful and unqualified to work in a bar/restaurant that was not busy. The rooms are dated. The only nice thing is thr grounds. I would never reccomend anyone to stay here and any weddings which is seems to cater for based on the wedding show that was on one of the days of our stay I would firmly reccomend not to stay. The above is the lived experience of not just two guests but around 20+. I saw people getting very upset at staff because of 2hour plus waits for food etc. I would have demanded a refund but expected that it would have been the worst experience of my life.
Impressive Manor House
Breakfasts were 3 star quality - the buffet breakfast on my second morning we low grade I was sent to the wrong room at check in My room was not cleaned or turned by a maid on between nights 1 and 2 . Bed was left un made and glasses were not cleared The courtyard room I was in was very basic
Impressive Manor House
No maid / cleaner turned my room between nights 1 and 2 - room not cleaned / bed not made / empty glasses not cleared Bad breakfasts - very low grade I was sent to the wrong room at check in and had to walk back to reception to get the right key / room number
Breakfast and the garden!
Lovely location and good interior decoration
It was not clean. The first 2 rooms we were given, one had no aircon and the bathroom had not been properly cleaned. My room had a used nappy in the bathroom bin, a dog bed (although I had requested it to be removed) and a door that was wedged open. We then were given an upgrade and 2 new rooms. Both had a/c , however, neither rooms had been properly cleaned, and the back of the key card door entry was uncovered and broken in my room. The staff were helpful but quite young and inexperienced. Had a nightmare trying to pay the dinner bill and split between two debit cards which I really don’t think is that complicated or unusual a request.
Room building gardens
limited lunch being served
The layout and immaculate gardens in a superb quiet setting. Very peaceful and secluded in a very busy area. The manager and staff were very friendly and informative.
Staff very friendly
Address insufficient for GPS users. Too much salt in omlette. Lack of a soap dish in the shower
The reception team kindly allowed us to check in earlier than expected, which we genuinely appreciated. The room itself was also a good size and provided sufficient space for our stay.
We chose Barnett Hill specifically because of the way it is marketed online. The hotel promotes itself as a luxury four-star destination and places considerable emphasis on its gardens, woodland surroundings and countryside setting, which was a major reason for our booking. The grounds and outdoor space appeared to be presented as a key part of the overall guest experience. Unfortunately, the experience quickly fell short of the expectations created by the hotel's marketing and four-star positioning. Our room was situated next to a linen cupboard, the door to which was left wide open. From the room corridor, we could clearly see stacks of linen, with some items appearing to be falling off the shelves. While this may seem like a small detail, it created an untidy first impression and did not reflect the standards of presentation one would expect from a hotel describing itself as a luxury four-star property. Inside the room, the toiletries provided were extremely small and appeared to be sufficient for only one person's use, despite the room being occupied by two guests. There was also a Nespresso machine, yet no coffee capsules were supplied, leaving only instant coffee sachets available. These details may appear minor in isolation, but together they significantly diminished what should have been a higher-quality guest experience. More concerning was the condition of the fan supplied in the room. It was heavily coated in dust, which was disappointing from both a cleanliness and maintenance perspective. The biggest issue, however, was the inability to get a comfortable night's sleep. The room was fitted with what appeared to be a heavy winter duvet despite the warm weather. Even with the window open and the fan running at full speed, the room remained unbearably hot throughout much of the night. By around 2am, after struggling to sleep for hours, we resorted to removing the duvet entirely from its cover and sleeping with only the sheets.
Location
Housekeeping was awful - dirty room on arrival (junior suite). Generally poor service - nice people but really inexperienced
Loved the house and was interested to learn about its history. Very grand building with lovely period features and bags of character. The gardens and grounds are worth a visit in themselves! A nice welcoming feel to it too. Attentive and friendly staff, clean and comfortable room with a large bed and two fans for the heatwave. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and both had the fish and chips - very tasty, decent portions and nicely hot. Bit annoying to be charged for water (a small bottle) and overall a little pricey (ice cream sundae essentially twice the price of a bowl of ice cream, with only a small chocolate brownie added!) but it’s a hotel so we expected that. Breakfast was plentiful and decent. Would stay again if in the area.
Just a bit pricey, food-wise.
Reception was highly professional, courteous, and welcoming. Bar staff pleasant but not confident. The room and bed were comfortable and it was much appreciated having a Nespresso machine and capsules in the room. Beautiful surroundings.
To be highly critical i.e., beyond the usual, and this is very personal, I'd have preferred not to have to pay an extra £50 for an early check in - the hotel wasn't full, and I believe the room was unoccupied anyway (I did book this option in advance, so I was aware of the charge, but by then the hotel would have known its probable % occupancy) . Also, through no fault of the hotel at all, we arrived back from an event after the dining room had closed. We ordered drinks and crisps at the bar - the barman seemed to have trouble dealing with a request for crisps, but a small bowl then arrived - we subsequently asked for two additional bowls (as the bowl was very small). I've just noticed that the bill for what would have amounted in total to a packet of crisps, was £15.00. So, along with the early check in fee, I cannot give a top score (I would have given 7.5 rather than 7.0, but this was not an option. An 8.0 may have increased its average, and not justified).
Good value for money
All was fine for me
Location
Staff were awful, we asked to check in early as we had a family funeral and they made it as difficult as they possibly could. They were rude and unhelpful - not great when a 19yr old is saying goodbye to his Dad that day.
Location
Service, prices, noisey rooms, can't open window in bathroom, tv not working, quality of food is ok but the price is ridiculous then they want 12.5 % service charge and the service was terrible. Untrained staff haven't got a clue what they are doing. The management need to sort this place out, terrible experience overpriced
We stayed here for two nights earlier this week. The grounds and the hotel building is beautiful. We upgraded to room 11, a suite, which was lovely, and had very nice views of the gardens. When we arrived we had lunch in the bar which was satisfactory (not a lot of options for vegans) When we booked our stay we had also booked to eat in the restaurant both evenings informing them that we were vegan. During the afternoon a member of staff came to our room to say that there were very few vegan options on the menu (the very basic vegan burger we had had for lunch!) he suggested we got a taxi elsewhere! The breakfast at the hotel was also very basic. There was absolutely no fruit. The pumpkin seeds that ran out on our first day were still empty on the second day! They offered a vegan breakfast which was satisfactory but came with inedible vegan bacon lardons! There are excellent vegan bacon lardons available on the market! We went out on the second day and got back at 3.30pm to find our room had not been made up! They came to do it but when we returned they had left a bin bag on the bed and no toilet paper. The hotel was very empty (only 5 other cars in the car park) but when we went for a drink in the garden there were three tables that had not been cleared, and they were left like that for the whole time we were there! The staff were very hit and miss, some welcoming and helpful, others didn't seem to care at all. It was such a shame, this hotel has so much potential! We would have much preferred to spend our money there than go out to eat but even with several weeks notice and very few other customers they were unwilling to cater for us.
Room was good although smaller than expected, great air con ,comfy bed, clean bathroom and great toiletries. Had three nights of good sleep
Room was small, stain on carpet
Nothing
The rooms were hot, the staff were unhelpful and also short staffed.
Wonderful location, great food
Breakfast was OK Location was lovely
No air conditioning in room, room was like a sauna with only a fan to blow the hot air around the room, leading to a bad night's sleep for my wife ( who is menopausal ). Bar closed at 10pm cutting short our wedding anniversary celebrations
Breakfast was great and room / location all wonderful
Staff and food in the evening were noticeably less professional and food not such high quality in the evening.
Disappointing stay. Booked using a Wowcher so the price was reasonable. However poor welcome at Reception, not offered early check in. We were staying for a family funeral (block booking) and absolutely no compassion was shown as a family member tried to check in relatives of the deceased. Some didn’t receive the room type booked and please be aware the luxury rooms in the Gardeners Cottage bear no relation to the photos on the website. In some rooms windows are painted shut and there is no air con! Very poor soundproofing in rooms. On the plus side the decor in the hotel is attractive. The gentleman on the desk when we arrived back late after the wake was friendly. Breakfast is fine.
The hotel is based in a beautiful part of the Surrey Hills and the grounds are lovely. It's been very hot so the grass is very dry but can imagine after we finally get some rain the grounds will look even more beautiful. Check-in was straightforward and easy. Located close to the Grantley Arms pub in Wonersh which is great. It is a lovely old building but perhaps a bit tired in places and could do with a bit of a renovation, although I imagine that comes at great cost given the size of the hotel.
The rooms didn't have aircon and whilst a fan was provided, this unfortunately isn't enough with the heat we've had this summer. If this kind of weather is to continue in the UK would recommend the hotel invests in aircon for all rooms to make it a more pleasant stay for guests. We were initially planning to eat at the hotel restaurant but the vegan options are very disappointing - only a moving mountain burger which I feel is just a quick and easy option to include to tick a box for having a vegan option. (and very expensive for what it is...). Breakfast was ok and the veggie option was tailored to be vegan. We had family also staying and the staff did not go in to make the beds or replace towels etc.
Prachtig landgoed en omgeving maar toch maar 40 min met de trein van centrum London af. Prima ontbijt en ontzettend vriendelijk personeel.
Het is een oud maar ook mooi gebouw met als nadeel dat het enigszins gehorig is.
Beautiful grounds but needs some attention.
Standard of cleaning poor. Room not serviced during the day. Had to get night manager to sort things out on my return late evening. No offer of a discount either. Plus I paid extra £40 for AC. You are having a laugh, most hotels have AC.
We arrived at the hotel Saturday 1st August to be greeted by this beautiful building, there was plenty of parking which is a 2 minute walk to the hotel reception which is clearly signposted. The hotel had a lovely feel about it from the minute we stepped in. When we got to reception we were greeted by a very friendly lady who took our name and handed us our key card told us our room number and gave us directions on how to get there. We went up the stairs to our room (I don’t think they have a lift but I might be wrong) number 22. The room was lovely and clean and well presented. It was warm but there was a fan which helped with this. We went elsewhere for dinner but on our return to the hotel we had some drinks and sat outside, the gardens here are lovely. We were served by 2 lovely staff members and they bought our drinks out to us outside. We had a great nights sleep and found the bed very comfortable. We opted to have breakfast which was buffet style and was very nice, nothing to complain about at all. We both had showers when we went back up to the room and I have got to say it’s one of the best showers we have had in a hotel, it was great. Overall this hotel ticked all the boxes for 1 night stay and we will definitely be back if we are in the area. Thank you to all the staff they were amazing.
Location, location, location!
The breakfast needs work. For the premium price paid one would expect the quality of the breakfast to be of higher standards (especially the scrambled eggs). Also, the waiting times for the coffee can be very long, especially if it's your first cup for the morning (it feels even longer). Time to invest in a better coffee machine I think.
Beautiful building in a perfect location for our needs
Decor a bit tired in our room, especially the carpets
Everthing
Nothing to dislike
On this occasion daughter and I went for a July Sunday afternoon tea. We chose a parasol table on the terrace overlooking the lawn overlooking miles. We ordered two champagne teas but as I was driving I passed my glass across. "Afternoon Tea - - - is a real treat" says the brochure, and so it was ! A house and setting right out of the National Trust, but much much better goodies. The house is worth seeing on its own account - the main stairs a marvel.
Lovely Hotel , rooms too! We had a lovely two nights there . Staff friendly, good menu. But, we found that the staff haven't been trained enough . Slow on responses and not able to prioritise requests It has the opportunity to become a fantastic spot We will be back , if possible
The area was lovely
Very disappointing experience, especially for a hotel marketed as a 4-star "luxury" property. We paid £170 for one night and expected a high standard of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the room was not up to standard. There were broken items, rubbish under the bed, fan was thick with dust that had to be cleaned for it to work, room was thick with dust throughout, making it feel poorly maintained and not worth the price we paid. The room service experience was equally disappointing. Our order arrived incomplete, and when I went to reception it took three members of staff to deal with the issue and arrange replacement drinks because the ones we had originally ordered were unavailable. Despite this, I still had to collect the missing items myself, yet we were charged the full room service fee. We also pre authorised £100 at check in for room service, we used £60 of this and when asking how long the reaming money not spent will take to return to my account i was informed up to 5 working days, it has now been that and still nothing, they advised me to contact my bank, passing it to someone else and given the impression they do not want to deal with my query. What makes this even more disappointing is that we stayed at Days Inn Warwick North M40 the night before for just £48. That room was spotless, well ventilated, comfortable and the staff were welcoming throughout our stay. Despite being a budget hotel, it delivered a far better experience than this hotel at more than three times the price. After our stay, I raised my concerns through Booking.com and the hotel itself and provided photographic evidence of the condition of the room. Unfortunately, Booking.com informed me they were unable to reach an agreement with the hotel, and no meaningful refund was offered. I still havent heard back from the hotel after they told me they have acknowledged my email and will look into this.

Based on my experience, I do not feel this hotel offers the level of cleanliness, maintenance or service that I would expect from a 4-star luxury hotel, and I would not choose to stay here again. I have attached pictures for reference this was the cosy double room, I was hoping it wouldnt come to leaving this review but as the hotel will not acknowledge my complaints or deal with any matters professionally it is leading me to write this and I dont want someone else being in the same position. This full stay caused me unnecessary stress whilst being heavily pregnant.
When we arrived there was only one towel for two people, no shower mat, no hand soap and the painting on the wall fell on the floor because it wasn’t screwed in properly.
The grounds, the main building, the decor were all great. Evening meal was also very good. Dog bed & bowls all provided. My daughter's ice packs for her insulin were stored in the freezer for us overnight.
I originally booked 3 Snug Doubles and was told this wasn't dog friendly and I needed to upgrade 1 toom to a Cosy Double @ £40 per night in addition to the pet supplement of £20 / night. We had to challenge this on check out as the room for our dog to stay in was significantly smaller than others in our party. The staff were also inadequate - extensive wait time at reception and the bar.
Main building and grounds were well kept from the areas I saw. Car park is large and no issues with finding a space. Staff were friendly, answered any questions and were very helpful. Bed was comfortable and there were a load of pillows which is always decent.
The main property is extremely well maintained and to a very high standard. The room I was in however needed some TLC and has seen better days. It was a budget room so it wasn’t an issue, although I would’ve expected the rooms to have been to the high standard of the rest of the hotel & spa.
The Grounds were very pretty
The room was very stuffy. No air conditioning and no fan supplied. Luckily were had brought our own.
1905 Bar staff
No air conditioning and the window couldn’t be opened, despite the heatwave. The room was around 35°C all night. We were told we would have to pay extra for a room with an opening window or air conditioning (friends who booked the same type of room had both air conditioning and an opening window). Very poor customer service for a 4-star hotel.
Spent two nights in this superb, well-maintained property. The staff seemed approachable. On 27th June, Left items of clothing in the bedroom wardrobe. Contacted the service manager two days later. Understood that the items would be dispatched to my UK address at my expense. Now 6th July.; no word, no sign of clothes.
Location is excellent with nice surroundings which gives it a bit of a park feeling. It's an old building with a lot of ambiance. Overall a nice place to stay.
Room 102 had no curtains but only blinds which did not block any sunlight early in the morning nor the night light next to our window. The room was also superhot during the heatwave. They only provided a small table fan which was clearly not sufficient to cool down the room. Dirty, worn out carpets in the corridors towards the rooms. Could do with a little upgrade.
The king bed was comfortable and good pillows The grounds are lovely The building has some nice visual features
We arrived at midnight. Fan in the room but window was not open so just circulating 35 degrees. I understand it has been extremely hot so buildings take time to cool down but the evening had been 20 degrees with a breeze. Unbearable all night! Complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits were shoved in a box, scrunched up and lots of crumbs left inside. Over head shower lacked power and was covered in limescale so I wonder how often it is cleaned. For a 4 star hotel the room was so basic with no visual appeal. Room door had two steps in front of it and then a very stiff to open so a strong push was needed. Lucky I am tall so could push from the floor before the steps otherwise I would have struggled. Breakfast was passable. Used plates left on tables and outside tables not laid. Generally looking a bit rundown.
The building and the location were very special
The food in the restaurant was mediocre and the choice very limited. There was a birthday party going on at the same time and the staff were quite distracted and we felt rushed. Portions small and bread rolls apparently at a premium. Disappointing.
Locatie
200 euro per night and NO shower. Only sitting in bath
the location
The room had two windows but one that didn't open, it was painted shut because the bins were kept below, it was very hot and I required a room where we could open the windows, there was no fan. I was offered another room but was expected to pay an extra £20. We were then moved to another room which had a carpet moth, in the bathroom there were two blown light bulbs. Reception staff then found another room at the same grade as we had book but then disappeared to get me a key rather than taking me and my luggage to the other room, I eventually after a considerable wait went to find them only to find that it appeared that I had been forgotten. From the write up we were expecting a four star hotel, which it is from the outside but the level of staffing definitely wasn't. breakfast was all self service, the coffee machine kept running out of water so consequently there was a queue, there was only one machine, fruit juice ran out and we had to ask for it to be replenished. The scrambled egg was over cooked and tasteless. We then noticed people getting boiled, fried or poached eggs, these were not offered to us. We were a group of nine and wanted to sit outside on the terrace on a big table which wasn't set for breakfast, nobody came to ask if we required anything,, there were far too few staff on duty. The bread was from a cut white loaf, or croissants or Danish pastries. Fruit was a bowl of melon, grapes and the odd piece of pineapple, which also ran out. The dining room was fine but no staff present, we sat outside because it was a lovely morning and I had to ask for napkins only to be told that they were on the tables in the dining room, I didn't want to take them from set tables. The window dressings in the bedrooms were venetian blinds which did not keep the sun out, consequently we were woken at dawn.
Beautiful grounds and comfortable well presented room.
Price of a pint.
Lovely tranquil place, nice rooms & lovely gardens, good to have air con, tea coffee & shampoo etc. liked the bath/massage oil. All the staff were fantastic, so friendly & helpful.
some bits in need of a little attention. Hadn’t expected to be in separate part of hotel ie outside door (so might not have liked that if on my own). No minibar.
Really nicely located property. Room I had was unbearably hot with no air conditioning but the staff brought a fan to the room albeit after we had already left the room to go out for the evening so was not very helpful.
Staff seemingly helpful, except for one. Quite late on, a young lady guest on her own at the bar, asked if there was a snack she could get. Her request was denied by the lady behind the bar. Another member of staff kindly chose to help her and brought her what looked like some bread with cheese. I witnessed the female staff member at the bar literally prevent the young lady guest from eating it by snatching it away as she raised it to her mouth. She then berated the staff member who had brought her the cheese sandwich. This was a shocking act and could very easily be considered assault. The female guest was visibly upset by this. I felt the female member of staff revealed an air of unwarranted contempt for the guest.
very relaxing location and beautiful rooms.
not a dislike but it would have been good to have food available later than 20.30
The hotel was superb, location great, facilities great, staff great. My only critique would be the breakfast, this fell well short of my expectations, the choice was poor and the quality of the hotel breakfast was very disappointing. People were wondering about with food on plates and then having to go to a separate room for drinks, the coffee machine failed twice whilst I was there. We were not even offered the alternative menu- avocado, poached eggs etc so we had to be content with grey scrabbled eggs and Bain Marie limp bacon. Very poor.
The grounds
The rooms was not clean, dogs are allowed in the bar, breakfast buffet is really poor.
The grounds were beautiful
On arrival our room was of a poor standard. Carpets were worn and marked. The bathroom door had many marks around the door handle. There was a broken blind slat on the floor. It was very stuffy. We approached reception and were told no other rooms were availableband that we would have to upgrade and we paid an extra £250. Having paid the extra to an upgraded room we found that the carpet was marked and the bath had an attachment to the taps which meant if you turned taps on water shot out. Also the toilet was next to the window with a very thin Roman blind. When we went to breakfast there was no menu!! It's in a separate room and the food was very sparse with items that you would expect missing. We had to ask for fruit and fried eggs. Staff did not appear to be happy with our requests. In the dining room wallpaper was peeling off the panels. We were disappointed with this hotel as it presents itself as a beautiful stay. It does not deserve it's four star rating. We will not be staying again.
Beautiful building in a great location
Rooms were tired, small, unclean. staff were indifferent. In Room 108 the mattress was too big for the base which resulted in me landing on the floor when I sat on the edge of the bed,
Barnett hill, is in a beautiful location in the Surrey hills. Having been taken over in recent years, it boasts itself as a four star spa hotel. There is absolutely nothing four star about this hotel, it’s three star at best. We booked direct with the hotel in a king room. On arrival we had to wait 15 minutes for reception to attend. The receptionist was friendly enough and told us we had been allocated to room 20, which he thought was on the first floor, we were only staying for one night so not being asked if we needed help with our luggage didn’t bother us, however the thought of trying to find our room did, we were lucky it was on the first floor, he got lucky. We entered our room which resembled an odd shaped bathroom and small bedroom, noticeable immediately was the opaque plastic applied to the lower windows at every window. I showered only to be stood in the water from the shower that wouldn’t drain, my husband followed having to stand in my water. Furniture was mismatched and the carpet was covered in yellow stains, dust evident everywhere. I decided to open the window to see views of a roof with e cigarettes, cans and debri, we also had a lovely view of the bins and laundry. The room was £200 room only. At this point I went down to reception and asked to be moved, we were given a room with a view. Checkout was as uninteresting as check in, no one around, so we just walked out. That night we bumped into someone else staying in the hotel, who had booked via wowcher in a king room, with prices so and breakfast for £149 and they were upgraded to a super king. I emailed the manager and asked him to contact me so I could talk through our frustration at being loyal and booking direct only to get a sub standard room, I got an email saying someone would contact me in 24 hours, no one did. So 2 days later I called to speak with him, he was busy but I was informed he would call me back within the hour. 5 days later, no call. So if you do book direct especially for a quality room, I would call ahead and make sure you get a view and a clean room. Or book Wowcher and get a much better deal. It’s is definitely not a four star hotel and neither does the manager operate in that way. Zsolt if you read this, please don’t try and explain yourself on this site, do the right thing and reply to my email or call me on the number I left.
Tranquil, wonderful setting, superb bedroom and friendly staff.
Remote location means expensive taxi journeys to go anywhere.
We have just returned from our incredible stay at Barnett Hill hotel. What an absolutely stunning venue, incredible staff team and superb facilities. We encountered some issues with our room when we first arrived but these were rectified quickly and professionally and we were exceptionally grateful to the team in making our stay extra special. We loved the fact we could take the dog somewhere so luxurious and all of the staff were so friendly, providing treats, water a bed etc - they couldn’t do enough for us.The food for lunch was superb and very good value for money. The drinks menu was extensive and the waiting staff are absolutely incredible. A special mention to Abear and the supervisor (sorry I didn’t catch his name) who were just fabulous and so friendly. The breakfast buffet was superb, fresh and of such high quality. We were utterly blown away from start to finish and we will not hesitate to recommend this wonderful place. Thank you so much to all of the team for an unforgettable weekend.

Location. Gardens. House
No air conditipning in some rooms. Towel radiators on all time in hot weather.
We loved that for the most part this property felt grand.
We felt that the dinner room needs lightening and uplifting and the garden area needed a bit of cleaning up.
Beautiful gardens. Friendly helpful staff. Good food
Outlook from our room onto a disused building Tea and milk in our room only topped up when we asked. Small selection on menu for dinner
The staff are amazing, they are a credit to the company. The historic building and grounds were lovely to explore..
Outstanding experience. The accommodation, food and staff are wonderful. We were with them for three weeks and they made us feel like part of the family. Zsolt, Sujeen, Abear, Renata, Hari, and the front desk staff and house keeping crew are the best you could hope for. 10 Stars!
Just arrived today. Check in was smooth and the young woman at reception was professional and efficient. I had dinner at the hotel and ordered the roast chicken with mushroom sauce and garlic mashed with asparagus. It arrived fresh and hot. Chicken was tender and tasty, and the mashed and asparagus were good too. Hari attended to me, provided excellent service and was lovely. I look forward to the rest of my stay. The grounds look beautiful and my (luxury) room is bright and spacious (decor is a bit dated). I was welcomed to the courtyard by a lovely, super friendly grey cat (apparently the neighbour’s cat). I love cats ( have three at home) so I was thrilled to be greeted by this vocal, sweet cat, who followed me everywhere.
The grounds were immaculate
Food waiting times were very slow
Saw a deal on Wowcher and phoned the hotel to check if they had a disability room for 3 nights. They had a courtyard room separate to the main building, which was perfect. Got the wowcher. Added the extra nights directly with the hotel. It didn't disappoint. The staff were so helpful, the room was fantastic and the hotel grounds are a total delight. The breakfast choice is excellent. I took a walk around the grounds and the lovely hotel cat came with me. Would recommend this wonderful hotel
Beautiful hotel with great surroundings
The grounds were lovely
Room too small especially for the price, rather stuffy as heating was on; poor breakfast time and was surprisingly a buffet
The staff were lovely and very helpful. Great place to stay for the night in a beautiful location. Nice outdoors area and grounds to walk around. Room stocked with tea coffee hot chocolate and biscuits.
It was quite hard to get to the nearest town as had to go down the side of the road.
The building and facilities all fantastic the staff extremely friendly and professional the grounds are stunning
The only little thing about are room was the mattress very comfy but with a kind of separation in the middle that made it weird
I can not recommend staying here! I booked this hotel for my partner's birthday, and we encountered so many issues that ruined the stay completely. Firstly, it is advertised as a dog friendly hotel, but it is not clear on their website that there is a pet charge. We were almost allocated a room that could not accommodate our dog. The room was not clean. There was half eaten food left in the room and crumbs on the floor. There was a light in the room that could not be switched off making it difficult to sleep. The advertised dog walks on their map were not accessible. The room service in the evening took a very long time. The room service for breakfast, that we organised with the reception staff, didn't even bother to turn up! When you book a hotel, the bare minimum you expect is a clean room and a good night's sleep. With the Barnett Hill Hotel you don't get either!
Lovely location, amazing building and helpful staff.
It is starting to look like it needs a refresh. Some of the carpets are need replacing, paint work needs attention - just looks like it is lacking care.
Clean tidy staff very professional
Same
Great character
In need of refreshment. Staff indifferent. Should have been exceptional at the price
nearly everything !
fried eggs for breakfast would be good
I've stayed at this hotel before years ago. I liked the plenty of parking and the gardens and foyers of the hotel are beautiful. The young man checking me in was pleasant and helpful. My room was v expensive £170 - (no breakfast)it was nice and roomy and the bedding and toiletires were lovely. It was not though in the central hotel. I was disappointed not to get a bath for that money as pictures showed one, and the hairdryer could not be found. Next time I would not spend the extra for a kingsize room. My sat nav suggested the hptel was earlier than it was - so do drive on a bit - roads are very windy.
Outside of property was beautiful
Inside of property was tired No lift The person there at check in time possibly had a cold but sniffed very loudly every 10 seconds. It was very off putting. No staff there to greet me at breakfast. Staff generally not engaged. Really odd contrast to the spiel about the amazing service when you call turns hotel. Light in bathroom couldn’t be switched off.
The room was ok. a little smaller than expected. Very clean.
We could have had more soap, hair shampoo and shower gel.
A beautiful hotel in the countryside with lovely gardens. Staff are so friendly and helpful, really make you feel welcomed. We have been upgraded to a better room the second night which really made our stay much more pleasant
I'm local and stayed with a friend who came down from Milton Keynes to go to a local event. Your staff couldn't have been more helpful. The room was lovely and had everything we needed. Food excellent and as I'm a local person we were given 20% of food and drinks. We'll be back for sure...Thank you..
I loved everything....
Well located, surrounding villages are lovely to explore. Atmosphere was quiet as hotel was not full, grounds are nice to walk around Our garden room was nice apart from the fire safety lighting in the room that cannot be switched off or dimmed and remained on all night so sleeping with the lights on is not possible. So we had to be changed rooms, along with the Hurd of elephants above us constantly slamming doors. Value for money id say this is closer to a 3 star ⭐ hotel not a 4. Everything looked clean, but if you look closer you can see that this would not be 4 star level of quality. Amenities are limited, spa is very limited and the offerings are not that different to high street offerings. Service was lacking, slow and forgetful. I would not recommend this location as an outstanding stay more of a convenience.
The architecture and views. The hotel was immaculate. So peaceful.
The narrow road leading up to the hotel especially when it’s dark.
We had our wedding at Barnett Hill and I would 100% recommend their venue to anyone who wants somewhere beautiful to host their wedding! They made our day the most magical day, and Carla, our wedding planner, worked so hard to make sure everything was perfect for us. Their attention to detail was insane and the team on the day ensured it was a seamless and stress-free day for us and our families. Couldn't recommend them enough - thank you Barnett Hill!!
Accommodation perfect for a dog with ample parking. Fine dining was excellent with knowledgable friendly staff. Also the full English breakfast was cooked to a very high standard.
Not so much didn't like but felt the room we had could do with a re-fresh. Bathroom was bijou but perfectly adequate. However the basin tap was such that it was impossible to fill a kettle!
We recently visited the restaurant at Barnett Hill Hotel and overall had a pleasant experience, with a few areas that could be improved. The grounds were lovely for the children to explore, and we enjoyed drinks on the terrace in the sunshine, which made for a very relaxed start to the evening. There were a few used cigars on the ground beneath our table which seemed easy for staff to miss, but it slightly detracted from an otherwise nice setting. Service was friendly overall. The maître d’ stood out as particularly professional and attentive, anticipating what we needed and when. Other members of the team were polite but seemed less experienced and didn’t always read the table quite as well. We had booked the main restaurant but were given the grill menu. We were also seated alone in a rather dark restaurant room while the adjoining bar grill area had noticeably better lighting and atmosphere. In hindsight, we would have appreciated being offered the option to dine there instead. The food was enjoyable, though the presentation wasn’t quite what we expected from a two AA rosette venue. Some dishes, such as burgers and sharing items, were served on quite small plates which made them feel a little cramped. Larger plates or platters would elevate the presentation. Overall, a lovely setting with good service at its best, but a few small improvements in atmosphere, communication and presentation could make the experience feel more polished.
Great staff , the manager at reception and the Venezuelan supervisor helping at the bar and restaurant were brilliant
Was on the expensive side but overall a lovely hotel
Attracive location, good room and supportive staff
Had to leave and go back home
Breakfast was OK but over priced
Tv connection was poor, and cleniness wasn't up to scratch for a 4 star hotel house keeping needs reviewing as took to long to come and change stuff and pick up dinner tray from the night before! Wasn't collected till late afternoon so was outside room all that time, food wasn't cooked to right standard ie.(steak was still mooing) when ordered medium rear, and not a lot of choice on menu.
Staff was fantastic and very accommodating On the Saturday but different on Sunday
A nest of lady bugs in our room but was sorted very quickly breakfast on Sunday was cold
Beautiful hotel in beautiful grounds. We had afternoon cream tea, it was so fresh and tasty. Excellent selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes. Staff were so lovely and friendly, would highly recommend and will definitely be back again. 5 Star all round. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.
Good food, lovely ambiance, great staff. Our first visit but certainly not our last.
A fabulous stay at Barnett Hill Hotel. My first visit. The house is beautiful and full of history. Gardens and house were immaculate. Beautiful lawns. We travelled with two dogs who were well catered for and we were all made to feel very welcome. A friendly and professional team of staff, lovely room with big bath tub and Temple Spa products. Wonderful afternoon tea!
Very beautiful, well maintained in lovely setting

My partner and I booked the Barnett Hill Hotel because we love the Alexander Hotel Collection and were not disappointed. Our stay was fabulous from start to finish: we were warmly welcomed at check-in and given a very nice room, which had all the amenities. Breakfast was delicious and catered well for vegetarians. Dinner was the highlight of our stay: the staff was extremely helpful and could not do enough to help, anticipating our every need. The food was perfectly cooked and hot and the recommended wines went really well with our food choices. The ambiance is very relaxing and elegant and the hotel is in an ideal location to walk the Surrey Hills. Definitely recommend it.
We just came to have a look and we sat down and had a coffee. We felt very welcome and relaxed - it had a very friendly feel to it. We will be going back probably for a lunch next time.
We had a great celebration at Barnett Hill for a family member's birthday and really appreciated the amazing setting as well as the staff who did a tremendous job handling our large group. Would recommend.
We had a great dinner and stay at Barnett Hill. The hosts of the dinner were particularly helpful and friendly and accomodating. The staff were so responsive and helpful with a slight issue we had and came back with a very productive solution quickly.
